In a time when the nation's governance is characterized as nothing more that scoring point and sound bites, Fleming presents Conable as the thoughtful kind of man we need in Congress. Fleming brings a political scientist's critical eye to this work, without making it into a heavy textbook. Exntensive use of Fleming's first person intevirws with Conable and his staff, as well as use of Conable's own writings, bring alive a Congress when principled men of conscience strove to do their best.
