Summary: A Man's Point of View
Review: First, as a fan, I willingly disclose that I purchased the book because it was about Marie. I did not realize that it would have such an impact.

I discovered that some of the PPD symptoms were similar to severe PMS symptoms my wife had been suffering from for 20 years. Because of the treatment options suggested by Dr. Moore I was able to make an appointment for my wife, and thanks to the treatment and supplements, the physical symptoms all but vanished.

I am now divorced, and on a recent re-read of the book, I was surprised to find myself relating to Marie's feelings of guilt and loss of self-esteem connected with her PPD. The poem at the end of her section of the book has had a profound effect on me as I work to deal with the effects of my divorce.

This book will always have a prominent place on my shelf. Thank you Marie and Dr. Judith.

Summary: She's only human...she suffered too...a MUST read!!!!
Review: I am a male. Therefore I have not suffered "post-partum depression".
However, I have suffered from clinical depression during most of my teenage years.
I read this book, and it touched me, moved me, and I can say it was a very inspirational book. In many ways, I understood what Marie was experiencing, what she was going thru. Depression is depression, there were a lot of similarities between what her experiences were, and what mine were.

I recomend this book to men and women!

Summary: Wow! What an awesome and helpful book!!!!
Review: I am truly impressed. Marie Osmond was very candid in this book. She revealed many very personal details about her struggle. While writing the book may have been cathartic for her, I think she revealed these details to help other women (more than anything). She is very successful in that effort! We are lucky she took the time in her busy schedule to write this book to help others!!! I am currently facing these issues myself. I found her book enormously helpful, interesting, funny, sad, moving, etc. I could relate to much of what she went through. I am so glad I bought this book. I have already recommended it to a friend of a friend who is also dealing with PPD. Having been diagnosed with manic depression following the birth of my 1st child 6 months ago, I really appreciated this book. Even though Marie was not diagnosed with manic depression, there was mention of it towards the end of the book (in Dr. Moore's section). If you are thinking about buying this book, do it. You won't regret it. I laughed and wept. I loved the coverage of alternative/integrative medicine and the appendix resources! Outstanding! There is even a section called "The Father's Experience of Living with Postpartum Depression" in Dr. Moore's part of the book. Believe me, my husband will read this book next. Couldn't put it down!!! It's awesome.

Summary: A Self Look and More
Review: I couldn't put this book down. Although I have always been a fan of the famous family, Marie is so brutally honest that all was not Honky Dorey. As I would read the words on the page I recognized things that I had felt and still feel after having my twins (twice). This book is not only great for women but for men also. It gives insight to men that sometimes we cannot ask for your help. Saying everything is "fine" is not always the case and someone needs to recognize this. You will not be disappointed. Marie has a great sense of humor and is so honest in saying that she wants to help other women. Believe it or not, she even used the word "hell" and when did you ever hear her say that word on national television?? It is a wonderful true story of this woman that looked like she had the perfect life, that had to admit that everything was not "fine". Hats off to you Marie and thank you for allowing your readers to get to know another side of you.

Summary: An answer to many prayers
Review: I couldn't read this fast enough. I laughed and cried for so many reasons! Ahhh...to be feel not alone! The only bad thing is that the copy I read was a library book...now that it is returned, I can't refer to it like I need to. The medical advice is changing the way I think about what it means to be healthy. I am buying it and recommend it to everybody I talk to. She is an angel! She is my hero! You go, Marie!

Summary: I Wish I Had This Information When I Experience PPD
Review: I highly recommend this book for any woman who is even thinking of having children, and especially women who think they may be experiencing PPD. When I experienced PPD after having my first child, I, like Marie, had no idea what was happening to me. About half way through the book, I started thinking that the book was sounding whiney, but by the time I got to the part where Marie finally made the decision to take care of herself, I just about stood up and cheered! I now think it's necessary to understand how her busy lifestyle and background contributed to her PPD, and why she reacted the way she did, and didn't get help sooner.

This book could be a real godsend to a woman who is experiencing PPD, and isn't sure what it is or where to get help for it. I really wish I had the information this book contains when I had PPD, but thank God other women will.

Marie...thank you for having the courage to not only get help and take care of yourself, but to then take the time to write a book that would benefit many. Because you have spoken up publicly, many women will not have to suffer in silence with PPD. I cried as I read most of this book, as it was like reading my own story in many ways. You have only become more beautiful as you've become more real, Marie. May God continue to draw you closer to His heart, and bring more healing in your life for His glory.

Summary: PPD is real
Review: I thank Marie Osmond for having the courage to write this book. I have been dealing with the shame, the pain, and other emotional obstacles due to PPD for the last 2 years. The tears rolled down my face as I read this book. The book validated all the emotions that I was feeling. Now that I know what it is I am dealing with I can get the help that I need to get out of this and move on with my life. Thanks Marie.

Summary: IF you wanted fluff and dirt, this isn't for you!
Review: I'm a single 38 year old woman anxiously awaiting children - at this point in life, I just have depression and 'female' problems. I began to read this book because I have always been a fan of Marie's. I gained much more than I expected. Marie skillfully and thoughtfully discusses PPD and I took away a great deal from this read. It made me address my own over expexcation of myself - and my own depression. Since reading her book, I've gotten medical help for my imbalance and am feeling more like the old me all the time.

I've even discussed PPD with a couple of dear friends, something that most women don't discuss.

Congratulations, Marie. You've de-mystified PPD for those who have not experienced it - or weren't sure they did - and for the men in our lives who love us, but just don't understand us complicated creatures!!

Summary: Validated my feelings and gave me hope
Review: Marie O. was brave to write this book. It is easy to look at priviledge and think it is a cure to all problems. But Marie shows that no mom can count on being exempt from PPD. In fact, reading her book should demonstrate that neither friends to pitch in, previous pregnancies, or financial bounty can completely ward off PPD.
Also, the Dr. Judith Moore section is worth the price of the book! I recommend the book for that, even if someone does not want to read about Marie O.
I watched Donny and Marie as a kid, but did not even realize she was still "active." This book gave me much more empathy and respect for her. Although I do think, in the end, she (like many of us) still has a lot to learn about taking care of herself.
PS: To those bad reviews I've read here, my answer is: Her story is just as valid and important as that of the next person. It does not have to be worst case scenario to be important. And it is not less so because she is famous. In fact, her fame helps to "get the word out."
