Rating: Summary: The Heart of the Matter Review: A wonderful book. I initially bought a couple copies as Cristmas gifts for family members (the cover girl compelled me.) As I began to read the essays, I was so taken with the stories of these remarkable individuals that I found myself purchasing additional copies - for myself, friends and my local library. The essays bring the lives of average Americans, captains of industry and celebrities into a cohesive focus that is difficult to put down. I love it.
Rating: Summary: Pictures That Leap Off the Page Review: Being of Irish American heritage I was interested in the subject already, but the pictures are what persuaded me to actually purchase this book. The subjects, their surroundings, and the colors make every image unique and captivating. This book truly covers the entire spectrum of the Irish in America today. I highly reccommend it.
Rating: Summary: Compelling stories straight from the heart Review: I bought this book as a Christmas gift for all my Irish friends. The stories are so compelling - they celebrate the specialness of being Irish in America with more nuance than most authors and with a grace that captures each person's perspective and joy. Color me...impressed!
Rating: Summary: May the wind always be at your back. Review: I just bought Julia McNamara's book for the O'Hagen coffee table. I spent the first few times with the book just looking at the pictures until I had a chunk of time to really sit down with the text. It is rare for a book of this nature to cover in such depth the Irish American experience. The stories are moving, uplifting and enlightening. Look at it.......but also READ it.
Rating: Summary: Irish Echo Review: Saw the ad for this book in the Irish Echo with the great picture of the piper. Knew it would be worth a look. Read Pete Hamill's introduction. Then read Patricia Harty's facinating pages of Irish history I never knew. Flipped pages to view the great faces that come right to you and bought it. Worth every penny and family loved it.
Rating: Summary: An Awesome Book Review: The Irish Face in America is an One-of-a-Kind book. Truly amazing. Both the pictures and the text are beautifully done and make the book enjoyable even if you aren't Irish. I am sure that you will be more then pleased with this book!
Rating: Summary: A celebration of Irish heritage with beautiful images !!! Review: The Irish Face In America is not only a touching tribute to Irish Americans but is also an enjoyable book to read and admire the photographs. This book is so special becuase it includes a variety of different expereinces from a diverse group of people all with one common bond, being an Irish American. Every unique experience shared is accompanied by a captivating photograph. And if a picture is worth a thousand words, the pictures in this book are worth TEN thousand words!!!
Rating: Summary: GREAT book!! Review: This book is really amazing. I'm a 'star' in the book on page 44. I'm very proud to be part of something so unique. The book is enjoyable to anyone who reads it, and I highly suggest getting it as a present for others, or yourself!
Rating: Summary: Great tribute to Irish faith and culture Review: Wonderful Book. Jim Smith makes it real, photographs the Irish face with an honesty and freshness--like no other photographer can. Captures the culture and spirit of each individual.
