Rating: Summary: Confusing and boring Review: Even though this book did have a powerful plot i thought it was flat out boring. The subject change confused me a lot. One minute she was talking about cammels and the next she was talking about something totaly opposite. It was very hard to finish this book. I give the author credit for acutally having the courage to do that and i think the book has a lot of girl power to it, but i didnt like the way she wrote it.

Rating: Summary: Every woman should read this book Review: Every woman should read this book because it is a model for what a woman is capable of doing. Often we do not realize what we are able to do until we are put (or subject ourselves) into a situation which tests us. Not only is this book interesting in the detailing stereotypes of Australian men, the wonder of the Outback and demystifying the aboriginies, it shows you an every day woman's spirit and instinct for survival. I read this book while in a 4 wheel drive truck going from Alice Springs to Perth in Australia. It was incredible to look up to rest my eyes from reading and see the landscape I was just reading about.
Rating: Summary: Too much about training camels Review: Granted, Robyn Davidson's book "Tracks" is a good read, but it emphasizes too much her preparing to go on the trip, learning how to train the camels, ride 'em, etc. She doesn't even set out on the trip until after the halfway point in the book, which I found ludicrous. Yes, it took her almost 2 years to prepare and train the camels, so obviously for Robyn it was a big part of her life and gained a lot of attention. But the reader doesn't care for that. Someone should have edited the book better. Otherwise, Robyn's writing is splendid, beautiful, and she deserves to be credited for that. Very good writer.
Rating: Summary: Quite simply, my favorite book of all time Review: I first discovered Tracks during the boring period of my life, when I was a bank manager. Since then, my whole life has changed, and with Robyn Davidson as inspiration, I am much more of an adventuress. What I like best about this book is the soulful, brave way Robyn shares her inner journey...her attitudinal shifts, the way in which she sheds the trappings and conventions of society for something more real, a life lived closer to the bone. It's a must-read on a number of levels...I still re-read it once a year just to remind myself that there are places left to travel and inner realms to be explored.
Rating: Summary: My Bible! Review: I first read "Tracks" when I was living and working with camels in Alice Springs. My first reaction was that it was the book I wish I could have written! This book helped me through a very rough period - becoming a sole parent. The loneliness, despair and frustration through parts of the book mirrored my own feelings at the time. I now refer to my experience as my "camel trip". Read it more than once!
Rating: Summary: Truly inspiring Review: I first read of Robyn Davidson's solo trek across
the Outback in the May 1978 edition of National
Geographic in which it first appeared. As a new
college graduate, I was about to embark upon my
own solo journey towards responsibility and
adulthood, and I found this young woman's courage
and sense of adventure to be truly awe inspiring.
Nearly twenty years later I happened upon Tracks
in the bookstore, and reading Robyn's complete
behind the scenes story was like rediscovering an
old friend. It's a stunningly beautiful tale that
I look forward to reading again and again. I was
also able to "track" down From Alice to Ocean,
the photographic companion journal, and it
contains some of the most beautiful photography
I've seen.
Rating: Summary: Circling Away Review: I love this book. Mine is in tatters, and now in a zip-lock bag. I took it traveling with me for 10 years and read it several times. Robyn shows that circling away from family and friends is important. Possibly scary at times. And then the risk of not recognizing each other when you return. But, if you don't circle away you won't have anything to share. The most important lesson for me was that I was as strong and powerful as I would ALLOW myself to be. Oh yeah, and dreams can become real. All it takes is one step at a time. What a lesson! Buy this book today!!

Rating: Summary: A seminal book Review: I read this book back in the eighties when it first came out -- '84 or '85 I guess. I loved it, bought it for friends (many of whom didn't get what I loved about it. Needless to say, these people are no longer friends. Read this book. Especially if you are female, somewhere between the ages of 13 and 100 and enjoy. Just enjoy. I have read literally thousands of books in my lifetime and this is one of my favorites.
