Rating: Summary: Honest Accounting Review: This is in response to the review from the (A Sham)California reader. Sir, you are entitled to your opinion. But, this is not an opinion in as much as it is a character attack. The fact that you did not sign your name, automatically brings your self-proclaimed expertise on the subject into question.Mr. Acre states quite clearly that the events are as he remembers them. The events took place 30 years ago without the benefit of a written diary or contact with all of the people with whom he served. There are no intentional misleading stories represented as fact. I know Mr. Acre's only regret about the book is that he wishes he had contact with some of the people cited, prior to publication. I can speak personally about Mr. Acre and his integrity because I have had numerous conversations with him as well as men who served at the same time in CCS. It is a brutally honest accounting of one year spent in a brutal environment. The details relayed to me surrounding events as Mr. Acre recalls them are cold, hard fact. Like it or not, it happens and should not be judged by any - Mr. Acre has judged himself and faced his own inner turmoil by sharing his story. Project OMEGA is not wrapped and presented as a 'tell all' tale, nor is there any claim, it is an authoritative representation of this unit's history or the men that served in SOG. It is one soldiers' story, and a good one at that. It certainly is not a self-aggrandizement, it is just the opposite if read as a whole. Thankfully, Mr. Acre has shared with us, a glimpse into this once Top Secret Unit. The United States Government denied its very existence until just recently, all of the men who served in the MACV SOG program finally got the recognition they deserve with the awarding of the Presidential Unit Citation in April of this year. I applaud Mr. Acre for having the courage to write and share not only his experiences as an elite soldier, but for sharing what must be some of his inner most thoughts and feelings. Last, but not least. Mr. Acre proudly signed his name to his work.
Rating: Summary: Project Omega: Eye of the Beast Review: Those of us who came of age in America while Acre was fighting in the jungles of Southeast Asia can read this book and be transported back in time to where they were in the late 60's and early 70's. If, like me, you were a college student, this book reveals an inside look at the Viet Nam war that soldiers' letters and watching the evening news on television failed to provide. If you want to go with a young soldier to view his existence during this time read Project Omega: Eye of the Beast. This book is a fantastic ride in a time machine to a period of our recent history that must be experienced in order to search for truth.
