Rating: Summary: Villa's best storyteller (la mejor historia de Pancho Villa) Review: The history of Francisco Villa is full of questions in the Mexican Revolution History, for some he was a bandit and for others a great Hero, in this book full of studies and investigations, the reader can know who really Villa was in an easy and fascinating way. Is interesting how is described the relationship between Villa and Generals Carranza and Obregon, and how really it was based on truly facts, also the way to be of the nearest men of Villa. in the life of the General Villa something is inmeasurable and it is explained in the book: "The Man between the angel and the iron" (entre el angel y el fierro). With this phrase you can put Villa between General Fierro "El carnicero" and General Felipe Angeles "El artillero de la revoluciĆ³n" and the reader will find how unpredictible General Villa was,how unpredictible the decitions on him were. This book is a great legacy for the Mexican History students.
Rating: Summary: Viva Villa! The Definitive Biography of a Historical Giant Review: The Life and Times of Pancho Villa is truly a masterpiece of historical biography. This volume accomplishes a rare feat in current historical scholarship---an eminently readable book which provides an unparalleled scholarly contribution. Prof Katz, while portraying General Villa's critical role in Mexican history, weaves into his text a colorful depiction Villa's indomitable character. A pleasure to read, this book will remain a favorite of both scholars and fans of Mexican history for many years to come.

Rating: Summary: You see all facets of Villa, in the context of Revolution Review: This is a great book. Not since John Womack's "Zapata & the Mexican Revolution" 2 decades ago has such a scholarly, well-written, moving account of the Mexican Revolution found its way into english. The book was, obviously, a labor of love and the labor of a career for Katz, who must have mined every possible source to generate a full-blooded picture of Villa himself, how he fit into the revolution, and the revolution'sown history. The book's length is formidable & off-putting, but not a difficult read at all ... I would recommend that people who might be scared off by its size try reading the first 50 pages or so before they conclude it is just too lengthy. I think most of you will find yourselves drawn in during that first immersion, and end-up buying (or taking it out of the library).

Rating: Summary: The definitive study of Pancho Villa Review: This is a massive and extraordinarily detailed study of Villa's life and times. It is well-written and easy to read despite the length of the book. For anyone who wants to read a *very* thorough book about the Mexican Revolution and one of its major figures.
Rating: Summary: Not only the definitive book on Villa, but also the Revoluti Review: This is a massive book, and not for light reading. Still, I think it is the best book on the Revolutionary period. If you are interested in this subject, this should not be the first book you pick up, there is just too much information. However, after you've read one or two other books, and have a good grounding, this is the book that wraps it up. There is nothing left out.
