Rating: Summary: The conspiracy defined at last Review: Conason and Lyons have provided the definitive history of the various arms of the half vast right wing conspiracy to depose Bill Clinton. So many erroneous and self-serving media reports are now rectified and situations clarified by the authors. This reviewer was listening avidly to each of the D'Amato hearings and was significantly and continually amazed at what the media reported had transpired in those sessions; indeed the minority often made reference to exactly that circumstance the next day or week by pointing out that the majority press releases had nothing whatever to do with the actual events which transpired, but neither did the media report on THAT. Conason and Lyons have not only cleared up the mysteries left to us by misreporting, but they have left HISTORY a magnificent volume which details the long term hunt by Jackson, Nelson, Case, Johnson, Nichols, Atwater, Lewis, Bossie, Ewing, Starr, Bennett, Porter, Conway, Tyrell, Scaife, Olson, Dozhier, Fallwell, Gerth, Schidt, Fund, Raines, Graham, and all the happy elves and creatures of the night who supported this hounding and prying operation. Pay attention to Nancy Richardson's review: you will be alternately titillated and chagrined at the roller coaster ride on which this marvelous book takes you. It's a must read for anyone who really wants to know what happened (and when) to make the Clinton fake scandals a national shame.
Rating: Summary: Bravo Review: I have followed from Canada most of the dirt heaped on President and Mrs Clinton for 8 years and one thought never left my mind: Will democracy hold up in the States? Finally, the authors of the book were bold enough to give me an answer. Yes Democracy will prevail. But outside your beautiful country a lot of people truly believe that something has to be done to prevent such "religious warfare" to repeat itself. The Christian Right has to realize that justice without love has caused the greatest crimes in history: Hitler, Staline, the Inquisition, the Crusades, the burnings at the stake in Salem, etc: all proclaimed justice... but without love. In the Impeachment proceedings of your President Clinton, JUSTICE we heard trillions of time, but never love. I can now remain hopeful that President and Mrs Clinton will someday be really known for what they really gave to you all, dear friends down south. Thanks
Rating: Summary: You'll Laugh! You'll cry! You'll Never be the Same, Again! Review: Of all the Clinton Impeachment books, this the one which has the most credibility because neither of the authors is particularly interested in achieving "Pundithood." At once a crisp rendering of Southern Gothic politics, as well as "Big City Gullibility" Lyons and Conason create an entertaining and sobering vision of Republican Dirty Tricks as high art, as well as an accurate rendering of how big media was fooled over and over again in a game of find the "Clinton Scandals." Some chapters are laugh out loud funny, as rich and as colorful as anything ever written by Twain or Stephen Leacock. Other chapters are monumentally depressing, in that we get a terrifying picture of how far unemployeed Republicans would go to get their cushy Govmnt jobs back. And in the midst of this madness, there are scores of reporters playing the fool for various conmen, scoundrels, and thieves. This book gives an unblinking look at the enemies of Bill Clinton, and one can be assured that the mainstream press and the Clinton haters will not like what they see one bit. (if they can actually bring themselves to read this wonderful book.)
Rating: Summary: Revisionist nonsense Review: I really tried to give this book a fair reading but it is so full of inaccuracies and such a rehash of the same old arguments for the the Clintons' innocence that it basically should not have been written. While there were many people out to get the Clintons', that is true of any modern president. The fact is they ran the most SUCCESSFULLY duplicitous administration of modern times. As evidence of their culpability continues to trickle out slowly, it has been impossible to create the kind of scandal reaction one would expect. This book does nothing to defend the Clintons'sordid behaviour in any new way. Same old excuses. The book explaining all this has not yet been written.
Rating: Summary: The truth shall set us free! Review: Praises galore are due Mr. Lyons and Mr. Conason for this excellent expose of how Bill and Hillary Clinton's long closeness to Yasir Arafat's PLO enraged Israel's friends in the U.S. Congress, who promptly got their Zionist pals at The New York Times to make up lies about Bill Clinton's supposed philandering (Mr. Lyons and Mr. Conason prove that Gennifer Flowers never met the President). Mrs. Clinton's principled embrace of a full Palestinian State, should she become a U.S. Senator, will likely result in more slanders from the Times and other news organizations controlled by Israeli operatives in New York City and Washington, D.C.
Rating: Summary: Read It, Loved (Most of) it. Review: Too much of this has been lifted verbatim from Fools for Scandal, but it still remains a comprehensive and stunning book. We all knew that the press corps had been dupped into hyping the Clinton scandals, but this new work shows that they actively concealed the conspiracy to get Clinton. More importantly, the authors show how at every key stage Ken Starr relied on the work of the conspirators to push his investigation and the Jones lawsuit. I wished the authors had gone a little deeper into the personal fallouts amoung the plotters. It seems that in seeking to destroy Clinton, most of these people have consumed themselves.
Rating: Summary: Preaching to the choir......... Review: The real shame is that those who should be reading this book will treat it like treasonous poison and not be caught dead with it. From the beginning, I was totally opposed to the investigations and ultimate impeachment of the Clintons, but following the presidential Monica Mea Culpa, I had come to accept that it was very likely Gennifer Flowers' story was true. Imagine my surprise when, in the opening chapter of the Conason/Lyons book, I read stuff I never, ever saw covered anywhere about the Flowers "affair." Now I can see that it's almost a certainty that there was never any physical relationship between the two. Conason and Lyons need to keep beating their drums until the rats responsible for this debacle are exposed and dealt with properly under the law.
Rating: Summary: A BOOK THAT TELLS ALL--ABOUT THE PR BUSINESS Review: Conason and Lyons have slapped together a hilarious glance at the PR industry's control of media's political coverage . They even name names .Slap in the middle they even name two law firms whose ex-employees were involved .These two firms --Wachterll,Lipton,Rosen and Katz and Skadden, Arps,Slate , Meagher and Flom, are experts in PR campaigns that matter-- those involving mergers and acquisitions .The book is a muct for those who need a guide to the way heaps of hype are dumped daily on the American people.
Rating: Summary: The Hunting of the President Review: This book should be required reading for every person in this country who sat and listened to the insane rantings of people like Ann Coulter, Laura Ingraham, Oliver North, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, Tim Russert, and other right-wingers for months on end. In fact, this book should be required reading for every citizen of this country.
Rating: Summary: AT LAST SOMEONE HAS THE COURAGE TO PRESENT THE TRUTH! Review: I feel that the citizens of this nation, owe a debt of gratitude to Joe Conason and Gene Lyons. The cloud that has been blinding so many from seeing the undistorted facts, and judging for themselves the truth of the assault on the President and his family, has finally been cleared away by the straight foward no non'sense reporting of these two gentlemen. A must not miss opportunity for lovers of history.
