Rating: Summary: Could have been so much more. Review: The author has an amazing story to tell of the time he served in the Vietnam War. However, certain parts of the book, like the part dealing with him verbally thrashing a superior officer, are very much in doubt. That one incident caused some stir, as other books written by members of the SEAL community refute this author's telling of the events that day. With his integrity under question, the rest of the book must be taken with a pinch of salt. But even with that pinch of salt, the book has an amazing story to tell of a dedicated warrior, one of America's truly devoted warriors. Hats off to Mr. Marcinko's service to this country!
Rating: Summary: none stop action Review: i have read all first five rouge series twice and it gets better everytime i read it and funnier. marcinko for congress wrong-o try president. non stop action from start to end
Rating: Summary: Excellent Read! Review: RW is an excellent, riveting book, a great read. Like Edward VIII, Marcinko excels as a king but is a waste of space as a husband and father... the book brilliantly shows up the elephantine bureaucracy crippling America's military and intelligence agencies, as highlighted by 9-11. The stupidity of bean-counters forbidding Marines from carrying loaded guns in Lebanon being a prime example! RW ends with RM doing a year's porridge on trumped up charges of fraud, but it should be read after his fictionalised RW series, because then you know everything turns out all right -RM is now a rich CEO and author who can afford his own bodyweight in Bombay Gin! Be warned, however, you itch for a sequel - you want to know what happened after his release, what happened to Pooster the Rooster, Cheeks, Ho-Ho-Ho and the rest of the "Crazy Gang"...Maybe one day, he'll oblige.
Rating: Summary: MARCINKO Review: I REALLY ENJOYED THIS BOOK! I BELIEVE IT GOES TO SHOW WHAT A DEDICATED PERSON CAN ACCOMPLISH WHEN THEY SET GOALS, BEING EX-MILITARY MYSELF, THE BOOK MADE ME WANT TO RE-ENLIST! OK, ITS A BOOK ABOUT THE NAVY SEALS, SO IF YOU DON'T LIKE BAD LANGUAGE OR BAD THOUGHTS DON'T GET IT! BUT, IF YOU WANT THE TRUTH THE WAY A COMMANDER EXPLAINS IT, THIS IS AN EXCELLENT CHOICE! I WISH THE MILITARY HAD MORE MARCINKOS!
Rating: Summary: Good Review: Way too sad of an ending. This is the third Marcinko book that I've read. It was pretty good, but the ending was very surprising.
Rating: Summary: Not too shabby Review: Except for writing about cheating on his wife as if it wasn't a big deal and about the animal abuse in Cambodia (eating the brain taken from a live monkey), the book is pretty good.
Rating: Summary: "You don't have to like it, ya just gotta DO IT! Review: In light of the recent and most tragic attacks upon the very soil of our nation, this book is much more than a story of one man's life. It also serves as a primer to issues concerning Terrorism, Anti-Terrorism, Special Forces, and Covert Operations. In fact, the book could be subtitled; "I told you so", for in its contents CDR Marcinko explains about those forces at work which hamper the efforts of persons such as himself to get the job done right the first time. This book has now become a stick in the eye of every self-important panty waist bureaucrat - both military and civilian, who impeded the work and aspirations of this man and the teams he led. Although other reveiwers have cautioned about the "crude offensive language", I say GET OVER IT! Salty language such as his actually conveys the raw testosterone/adrenelin emotions he feels and wishes to convey to the reader to drive a point home. If given a choice between his verbage and the inevitable consequences we all paid on 9-11, I'll take the former any day AND thank him for it! After reading this book you'll be asking yourself that had CDR Marcinko been left to continue unhampered, that the only international significance September 11th would have would be the day before September 12th!
Rating: Summary: Most Explosive Book I've Ever Read Review: This book is not for the faint at heart. This book is a must read for all action lovers. Richard Marcinko has done what most people dream to do, lead a group of SEALs into enemy territory and survive without a scratch. He is the defintion of tough.
Rating: Summary: A Good Book! Review: This was the first Rogue Warrior novel that started the chain if many others to come. Dick Marcinko details his life in the military from beginning to the end. His time in his early years made for interesting reading. I also enjoyed reading of his ascent to the position of a Navy Seal. He was also sucessful in telling of his many adventures while a Navy Seal. You had no doubt that you were hearing the voice of experience here. The section of this book that details his trial and time in prison is also well covered. This was a good way to start the Rogue Warrior series. This was an entertaining and informative book. Be sure to read it.
Rating: Summary: This Book Is a Must Read! Review: Richard Marcinko rocks. In this book, he tells us the story of his life as a Navy Seal. He is what we need more of in today's Navy. You learn the inside scoop of the Navy Seals from a man who helped form it.
