Rating: Summary: Hilarious and Delightful Review: I read this book while vacationing in the Bahamas and I could not put it down. With so many other things to do, all I wanted to do was to keep on reading. What a great read! The stories are short and vividly told, ... you are there with Tony Somertino and his colorful array of Hollywoodians and you are laughing during the entire journey. Wonderfully written, perfect for sitting on a lounge chair sipping something cold and releasing the troubles of the world. The stories of the family weddings kept me in stitches. I had to share my copy with two other people who joined me on vacation because they saw me having so much fun reading it.
Rating: Summary: I know who he is... Review: I'm a chilean woman of 45, mother of 5, open-minded, living in a very closed-minded country. I have several gay friends whom I love and respect and I've bought some gay literature not available in my country, to learn more about gay people's problems and the best way of becoming a good and helpful friend for them. Of all the twenty something gay books I've read, I recommended only two of them to straight people, and just this one to my mother. It's her first and only gay book, and she was reluctant to read it, but one night she phoned me arround 11:00 pm, and just said: "sorry, I had to call you to tell you I've been crying with laughter over the tree and the chandeliere chapters". I recommend it to everyone, gay, straight or bi.

Rating: Summary: Laugh-out-loud funny! Review: This is a laugh-out-loud funny book. The childhood stories are great -- very true from a parent's point of view as well as anyone who remembers what it was like to be a kid! There are also stories of a world most of us will never know, hilariously told and giving the reader the feeling of being there. But this book has depth and is also the story of a spiritual awakening of the truest kind. The only warning: Don't begin reading anywhere near bedtime because you will not want to stop for sleep!

Rating: Summary: "F. Scott was Right" Review: Who would ever expect to find profound praise of the simple pleasures in life from such a Bright-Lights-Big -City -Kind-of-a- -Story? Well, believe it, and get ready to laugh uproariously, be A LITTLE shocked, and lap up hungrily all the true Hollywood anecdotes you can handle--and all in one book!! Just like F. Scott Fitzgerald taught us in THE GREAT GATSBY, "'The Rich aren't like you and me; they have more money. .'" (sic) You are going to both enjoy and disparage of the entertainment business Christopher and Carroll describe for us--you may disapprove; you may be saddened, but you will NOT BE BORED. Besides spanning nearly 25 years and the swinging seventies, it tells of a young man coming to terms with his own choices, and it displays an honesty to which we should all aspire . It is like finding a bunch of secret letters in Hedda Gabbler's attic --not being able to put them down, and at the end of the cache finding out that the simple pleasures of life: work, friends, love, and constancy really do matter MORE than even all of us have always been told they do. Read it; this novel is more than it seems; it's fun and good for you.
