Rating: Summary: Sensational without substance Review: I quickly got tired of the author congratulating herself on her coverage of the Selena story. She states that Saldivar told her "the secret" but she is bound to silence. So why write the book on nothing but innuendo? It is a common cry of the acused to say that they are guarding some secret that will set them free. I just don't buy it. Salidivar is just trying to stay in the limelight and to continue tormenting Selena's family and unfortunately this book continues her efforts.
Rating: Summary: Disrespectful Review: I think if you consider yourself a true fan of Selena, and want to keep her memory alive, you should not read this book. This is a WAIST OF TIME AND STUPIDITY. Mrs. Ararras needed money at that time (I believe) and she used murder Yolanda Saldivar just to sell.(well, I really do not think she sold many copies though). I do not understand how the media keeps giving credit to this crazy Yolanda Saldivar who is desperately looking for attention in any way! there is no secret mentioned in this book, because there is no secret at all. period. Selena was killed by her "friend" but Mrs Arraras tried to show the human side of Yolanda Saldivar...but there is no such side of her. It is just a waist of time.... I read it and I do not recommend this, at all....
Rating: Summary: Monie Review: I think it was an ok book it talked a little bit about Selena,Yolanda, and the trail the thing I didn't like about it was that it didn't say Selena's real secret I mean I bought the book to know Selena's secret but it wan't there!
Rating: Summary: Don't Waste Your Time !! Review: I think this book is a bunch of lies and rumors towards Selena. I too felt used from buying this book, and I thought that the big "secret" at the end was nothing but a made up lie from a jailed woman who has nothing better to do with her time. And to the author: " Don't print things you know aren't true about good people !!"
Rating: Summary: Rivating, Easy to Read, Disappointing -- What's the Secret? Review: I thought the author was sharp in her journalistic skills. I was impressed by her integrity in how she dealt with all the parties involved. I thought it was well-written and I gained some interesting insight into the case. However, she lost her credibility when she named the book, "Selena's Secret," something she couldn't deliver. I finished the book in a few hours. I was disappointed that the secret was only speculation with no facts to back it up. And the secret came from Yolanda Saldivar, an obvious manipulator, the same person who shot Selena in cold blood. I would venture to say the woman has little or no credibility. If she does know something about Selena then she should let it rest, because who would believe her anyway. And it would only bring more hurt to Selena's husband and family. I can understand the author, being a journalist, having a desire to print what she knows and the unanswered questions up to and after the murder, but there wasn't enough facts to prove their was a secret. If I did learn anything from the book, it would be how to get a highly sought after interview, and that Yolanda Saldivar is 99.9% guilty of murder. Someone who is that controlling and manipulative will do anything, even kill, to stay in control. I will miss Selena and the music that she would have created. God bless Selena!
Rating: Summary: Michelle Pujals Review: I thought this book was very well written. I like the attitude Maria Arraras has towards Yolanda and her family, and the Quintanillas. She is very fair in her thinking. The book revealed many things I had not known about Selena and her life.
i think it is very good reading and i reccomend it to anyone who wants to know about the trials and other such things.
Rating: Summary: Selena's Secret--Yolanda's Truth Review: Maria Celeste Arraras treated Yolanda Saldviar with respect. Selena's Secret gave Yolanda the chance to share what she knew about Selena's life without giving away the entire secret. If Yolanda were to speak the truth completely, It would do a lot of harm to many people. If you read the book carefully you can figure out the secret(s) yourself. It takes time but its worth the effort! Many thanks goes out to Maria Celeste Arraras for allowing Yolanda to say what was troubling her mind.
Rating: Summary: Poorly written with little journalistic integrity Review: Poor Selena. This book only brings to light half-truths and lies, all under the guise of "journalism". On page 250 Ms. Arraras writes: "If you have read this far--and if you've read between the lines--you know that I have revealed much in an indirect manner." I read that far and the only secret I can ascertain is that you can get published simply because you interviewed the murderer on television, rather than because you have something new to say. Selena had a short and interesting life, and it's too bad Ms. Arraras found it more important to tantalize with innuendo than to actually do some reporting.
Rating: Summary: Complete waste of time Review: This author should lose her job. Not only does she ramble on incessantly about trivial nonsense, such as how she washed her hair in the airport bathroom before interviewing Yolanda Saldivar, but she never gets to the reason fans wanted to read her story -- WHAT IS THE SECRET? She claims she promised Yolanda never to reveal it, however, she misleads the readers by her title and deceptive description of her story. Ms Arraras better stick to her trash tv job, or go back to college writing 101, where she can actually form a sentence that does NOT include a self-serving piece of information or a non-important remark about inconsequential things. She repeatedly toots her own horn, bragging about how she was the first to get inside to talk to Yolanda, how Selena's family grew to trust only her, how she worked so hard and so long to report the "facts" -- what BALONEY! One so-called "fact" she reported was that one attorney had huge fleks of dandruff in his hair! WHO CARES? These are the kinds of things this book talks about, nothing substantial, and certainly nothing that a true SELENA fan would care to waste time reading. The book is more a rag piece on Saldivar, and the author obviously has an affinity for her as she attempts to tell a lopsided version of the story of this talented singer's tragic death. Just save your money, PLEASE!
