Summary: Fun to Read
Review: I'm actually not a big fan of Dr. Phil's, but I do admire the man and what he's been able to accomplish. This book offers an interesting overview of his life and all that he has been able to achieve. I also liked how the authors ended the book by showing how Dr. Phil applies his Life Laws to his own life.

Summary: What were you thinking????
Review: Let me be among the first to say I hated your new book! It started out objective enough with facts of Dr. Phil's upbringing but soon kicked into an all-pervasive venomous tale of your slant on every wrongdoing Dr. Phil has ever done in his life. All I can think of is that he must touch on some very sensitive nerves with both of you for you to portray him in such an outrageously negative light. As you can tell, I'm a huge Dr. Phil fan who feels his show does a tremendous service to people out there who can benefit from his counsel on a daily basis. Whine, whine, whine...I'll never read another one of your "biographies" again.

Summary: It just doesn't deliver!!
Review: The first editorial review on Amazon I read about the book said that "Authors Sophia Dembling and Lisa Gutierrez dig deep to uncover Dr. Phil's motivations, inner drive, and the full dimension of a personality more complex than the "down-home doc" portrayed in his books and on television."
The book claims to dig deep into who the real Dr. Phil is, but I did not find that to be true. It was more like they were just trying to piece together his life from the headlines. there was very little that actually tried to explain the man himself. the story tends to go between being downright offensive to explaining the facts about his success, which he has fully explained a number of times on national television.

there was even something missing when they explained the facts of his rise to stardom. everyone knows that it takes a great deal of effort to become a success, but the way that dembling and Gutierrez explain Phil's life, it didnt take much effort for Dr. Phil to do anything. as far as success stories goes it is a but bland. one minute Dr. Phil is a big fat nobody (which is untrue since he owned one of the top trial litigation specialist companies in the US) and poof one day met Oprah and became famous. as far as exciting and profound success stories goes, this one is a downer. the book promises to give you insight into how you can become a success by following Dr. Phil's example. So it seems all you have to do is meet Oprah. I would go camp out in front of her studio if i were dembling and gutierrez because this book really doesn't deserve to be a success.

Summary: You'd be crazy not to buy this book.
Review: These women have done the impossible--think of how hard it must be to write a book without the subject's input or cooperation. The guy probably threatened to sue their butts off, but they still worked hard to find lots of info, people to talk to, etc. I am totally impressed. The book is well-written and interesting, and it's hard to tell whether the authors like or dislike Dr. Phil (which is how all biographies should be!). I thought it was great that someone finally came forward to expose the fact that the guy is not all that he's cracked up to be. My hat's off to you, ladies.

Summary: Boring.
Review: This book was soooo boring. I am sorry but I could not get into it at all. I started "The Making of Dr. Phil" awhile ago but I have not been able to get more than 3/4 of the way through it, which is odd for me because I read all the time. I usually do not read biographies that are not very well accredited such as "Benjamin Franklin: An American Life." I picked up this one because I recently started watching Dr. Phil's shows in the afternoons now that I have them free. I thought that he had probably lead a pretty interesting life from what he has made of himself. Somehow these authors took what could have been a very interesting read and made it boring by stringing together far too many quotes, anonymous statements from ex-employees who rarely "ever" have anything good to say, and obvious observations that I even I could have garnered from the media. In the end, I probably will finish it only because I never put down a book but I am not going to keep it. I advise you not even to buy it---borrow from a library if you "have" to read it, that is where mine is going.

Summary: Fascinating Read
Review: This is a compelling read about how Dr. Phil went from literally nowhere to becoming a world famous shrink with his own TV show. While it does offer some of his self-help advice, it's really his life story, from boyhood to present. The authors offer a very objective look at his eventful life. They also provide a glimpse into how he talked his way into the fame and fortune he enjoys today. I'm really convinced that some of the other reviewers haven't even read the book and are just guessing it's a negative look at Dr. Phil. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, it's an overall positive picture of a man who is indeed a very shrewd businessperson. The writing is clear, concise, and quite entertaining. I believe it will be of interest to readers of all types, whether you're a Dr. Phil fan or not.

Summary: Very good
Review: This is a really good book. It contains everything you ever wanted to know about Dr. Phil and his life, including the many business ventures he was in before becoming a big TV star. I read about many things in his life I never knew before.

Summary: Peevish Portrayal of Dr Phil
Review: This is a very entertaining read on one of today's leading celebrities. It tells Dr. Phil's true life story, from his start as a poor boy in Oklahoma, to his first business ventures, on through his college years studying psychology. It then talks about how he transitioned from private practice with his father to the speaking circuit and trial consulting, before being touched by the magic of Oprah and shooting into super-stardom. I found the insights from Dr. Phil, his friends, and family to be most interesting. I had no idea he had accomplished so much and managed to rise from failure so many times. I really think everyone even remotely interested in Dr. Phil will enjoy reading this interesting book.
