Summary: Wow - he has kept his sense of humor
Review: I ordered this book out of curiosity. I was well pleased. There are times this book drags. There are times this books jokes are so old, they may have been new when Mr. Nelson was a boy! However, I found it fun, refreshing, and just plain relaxing to read. I would warn you that some of the humor is definitely for adults and if you are offended by raw humor this book is not for you. While I personally was offended once or twice by a joke I still enjoyed the read.

Summary: ON THE ROAD WITH THE MAN!
Review: If you are a fan of Willie Nelson ... as most folks are ... you'll want this book.

It's spoken in town-to-town musician-bus language and it's simply what Willie intended for the book to be --- a no-holds-barred bit of chit-chat placed into print by utilizing the casual talking style of the author.

Like his many musical compositions that have been released on records, CDs and cassettes during the past 40 years or so, this is a work of art by an artist who has lived the life and is, therefore, qualified to talk about it.

Willie sent me the beginning pages of the manuscript as he was creating it on his bus while riding from city to city for various appearances. After reading what was submitted to me, I knew it would be a "winner". Reading the completed book was a genuine delight.

Some of the jokes told by Willie are not the type you would tell to your mother (who made have already heard them if she knows Willie), but are not offensive unless your head has been buried in the sand during the past couple of decades. Like a good movie, the hilarious attachments just add to the atmosphere.

While you are reading this book, you get the feeling you're sitting on Willie's smoky bus, listening to the genius as he laughs and relays numerous stories of the road, discusses some personal friends and speaks with a tongue in cheek manner about the somewhat complex music/entertainment scene. There are also some bits that are to be taken as serious statements from time to time.

Although he needs no introduction to his talents as a singer, actor, extraordinary guitar picker and songwriter, it's the "common" connection that makes this an authentic piece of literary art.

Willie caps it all off with many photos and lyrics for songs, most of them composed by a man who is looked upon by his many peers and countless fans as being unsurpassable in the business of entertainment.

You might put Willie's new CD, "THE GREAT DIVIDE", in the player unit while you lay back and enjoy this very good book written by a dear old friend.

Summary: As Unique & Original as Willie....
Review: If you bought "Willie", buy this for dessert! If you haven't bought "Willie"...go do it~Now!....It's better'n any fictional account of anything you're gonna be finding-guaranteed! I also bought his Rainbow album and his interactive CD "Willie..life & times of.." Willie fans 'need' these rarities and won't be disappointed ~ unless they miss getting them for their collection...I used to spend my New Year's Eve's at his "New Year's Eve Parties" in Houston and sure miss those days, too. He is one multi-faceted, talented and unique All-American Treasure who just keeps getting better with age. If you heard the Art Bell Show, when he interviewed Willie..and that's all you know about this entertainer, let me tell you that Art fumbled the ball on that one and should've read one of these beforehand...so don't you miss out - buy the book(s)!

Review: It is written while on the road and ANY TRUE Willie fan will love just having the opportunity to live inside Willie's head for a while.

Summary: You were always on my mind
Review: The inimitable and irreplaceable Willie Nelson has written a quirky, rambling, rambunctious, stream-of-consciousness, on-the-road-again celebration interspersed with autobiographical information, his song lyrics, and dirty jokes.

Along the way, he reiterates his beliefs in the backbone of America. This is especially important in the post 9/11/01 world. We have to protect our food supply. Willie, co-founder and activist with Farm-Aid, says: "...you should ...look at how the family farmers are treated. How are we treating the first rung on our ladder? Because when the backbone of our country is broken and the first rung on the ladder is weakened, everything collapses. We all come crashing down. You can cut taxes all you want. You can do everything in this world for every other rung on the ladder. But when the family farmer goes under, it's just a matter of time before everyone else follows. We had well over eight million small family farmers, and now we're down to two million, losing three hundred to five hundred A WEEK [emphasis added.] If we don't get a farm bill, a good one, there will be no more small family farmers left. Farm Aid will help all we can, because someone has to repair that bottom rung of the ladder, and time is of the essence. The reason every civilization has gone under in the past was because of an inability to feed its people. We are running out of time. ... The factory farms are the worst possible things we can do to the people, the environment, and the general health of everyone. We have already seen the dangers of disease in our livestock. Mad cow disease, foot-and-mouth disease - there are all kinds of diseases which, according to government reports, "may or may not be harmful to humans." Either way, it's easier for small family farms to insure a healthier climate on the farm, because there are a few pigs on a few acres - not a hundred thousand [this reader would add "concentrated target" -which those with devilish intent might infect with pathogens harmful to ultimate human consumers] pigs in one big pig-pen outside your retirement home in the country."

Sing and write on, Willie!

Summary: For The Die-Hards Only
Review: The same basic material he has already covered in his autobiography "WILLIE" back in 1988, and the song lyrics have already been published in other retrospectives. An enjoyable must-have for Willie completists to be sure, but an otherwise repetitive, pointless book. And I am a big Willie Nelson fan.

Summary: Willie's still got it.
Review: This book is a must for the country music fan. Willie talks about life's lesson and adds plenty of humor to it. I am glad to see Willie still on the road doing shows. I saw him when he came to Columbus to open for the Dixie Chicks, and he did a great performance (too bad he didn't get more stage time). So if you love Willie Nelson, first buy this book and then go see him in concert some where. He is one of country music's living legends!

P.S. I miss you Waylon :(

Summary: A GRASS-ROOTS MAN WITH A FASCINATING STORY
Review: What stood out among the pages of this book was Willie's down-to-Earth, grass-roots character. He is a man who has often lived on the edge, had his fair share of ups and downs but still manages to come out on top. His songs are popular because they come from the heart, just as this book does. The further one gets into the book, the more it begins to feel as if Willie is right there along side of you, and you are just listening to an account of his trials and tribulations. He brings life to his adventures and readers will get a fair chuckle from his jokes - some of them clean, others not ones you would tell your younger children. Willie comes across as a simple man with a devil-may-care viewpoint and a unique style that is one hundred percent pure Willie. For fans of Willie Nelson, this book is one you will not want to miss.
