Rating: Summary: more than words Review: I read the book music for the people DMB. Nevin Martell did an outstanding job of bringing us closer to a group of five individuals that we have all come to love. I learned many things that I did not know beore about DMB. I think he also gave us better knowledge of each of the members of the band and what they have gone through in their lives it hasn't always been easy for them. I think this makes it easier for us to be on the same level. He is one FINE author and I would suggest this book to all of my friends. I honestly picked it up and did not put it down until I was finished. If you are a true DMB fan you have got to read this book.
Rating: Summary: A Review for the People Review: When I began reading DMB Music for the People by Nevin Martell, I immediately developed a craving for learning as much about DMB as I could. I'll admit that when I began the read, I was not very knowledgeable of DMB, its past and roots... I just knew I loved the music. The easiness in which Martell included the facts made them easy to remember, and I found myself sharing my newly learned information about DMB with others. Also, Martell seems to have acquired his information in a way that still allows the members of the band their own privacy, and by the members being allowed to keep some things private, it shows the respect Martell has for DMB. That aspect alone makes me respect Martell more. Martell seemingly captures the personality of the band within his book. My quest now is to make it to a show and fully experience DMB. This is due largely because of the way Martell has captured the personality of the band. I can't wait to see it in person rather then just read about it. But if I had to resort in just reading about it, I would rely on Martell's words to take me there. Another plus is all the lists Martell includes - the cds, gigography, etc. I've beocme a follower - and in the music for the people this person has found her soul.... again and again with every note that is heard.
Rating: Summary: DMB Review: This is a good book which gives some insight into DMB from the early years through 1999. It is one of the first books to include venues and dates played. Would be great to see a book which includes setlists also. Nonetheless a good book to spend your cash on if you are into DMB.
Rating: Summary: Must Read if you are a DMB fan Review: I really enjoyed this particular DMB book, it gave a lot of insight and clarity in the personal lives of the members. I learned a lot about how much it took so that DMB is a core-player in todays music scene. I also liked how Nevin Martell gave the dates of concerts, cd history, cover songs, special appearances, and great pictures of the band members, just an overall good book. You should definatly get this book!
Rating: Summary: Great for all DMB fans! Review: There is only one requirement for you to read this book: you must like Dave Matthews Band to any degree. Whether you only like one song or think you know everything about the band, this is a great book! It lets you into the lives of 5 great guys and teaches you all about how they got where they are and what makes them be who they are. The book includes info on influences, song analyzations, practically every live show theyve done, and even what some of the liner notes mean! I read it in about 5 days. It's easy to read and very interesting. My recommendation is to buy the book then listen to each CD during the chapter(s)about that respective CD. It really makes it so much cooler, I like to call it interactive reading. Ok enough with my praise, BUY THE BOOK ALREADY!
Rating: Summary: Even Enjoyed By Metallica Fans! Review: The book wasn't a literary masterpiece, but it did more then it had to to make an enjoyable book. I'm a huge Metallica fan and one of my friends really likes DMB. I figured I'd give the book a try (and hate it), but I thought the book was a great overview of DMB. I would defenitely recommend it!
Rating: Summary: pretty good Review: I think that this book is a good book for casual reading, and gives you a nice history of the band. I also like how all the interviews were brought together. i enjoyed it.
Rating: Summary: It made me want to see a live concert.......big time! Review: The book was well-organized, bringing the reader along on the journey with the band. I liked the humanization of the band members and got an appreciation for what they were trying to accomplish as musicians as well as entertainers. The author's respect for this band was evident throughout the book. After reading this book, I would like to experience a live concert. Until then, I have borrowed my daughter's CD's. Thanks to the author, I now know the history behind each song and each album. I will read his next book!
Rating: Summary: A look inside a band thats brilliant Review: This book was a good start for someone who would like to gain knowledge of the band. It tells of their beginings and how they got where they are today. This book was an easy and interesting read. It also has a complete listing of their shows and other neat info for fans. I reccomend this book to anyone who enjoys this bands music.
Rating: Summary: Smack the author of this book upside the head Review: _I_ could have done a better job. This book had several mistakes (One particularly obvious one, if you trouble to glance at a picture of Dave. Blue eyes? Brown hair? Please.), the style wasn't altogether engaging and how many people actually care about the cover band? The lead singer of which, by the way, does NOT resemble Dave Matthews. I cannot believe he put a picture of them in there. Speaking of which, at least the pictures could have been of better quality. Plus, the layout wasn't exactly balanced. It's so maddening to see this kind of thing! Such simple little stuff in presentation and obvious errors in description. Songs that were mentioned in the book left off of the lists in the back to boot. Come on. Ever hear of proof-reading? Honestly, I do think I should try my luck at this. God knows it could not be any worse.
