Rating: Summary: Flabulous! Review: This is your guide to being a capital BIG Glamazon with a hunger for men, food, and fashion. As far as fat acceptance goes there are books that have done a better job. Mo'Nique deals pretty narrowly with people exactly like her. I know BIG girls that could care less about whether designer fashions come in plus sizes. And while Mo'Nique stresses FAT peoples' love of buffets and eating I know plenty of the EXTRA LARGE that get stuffed after two bites and plenty of evil skinny ones that could inhale a Hometown Buffet. And while I myself do worship the ground Lane Bryant walks on and took frequent snack breaks while reading the book I found Mo'Nique's relationship advice for BIG girls anti-feministic at best and degrading at worst. But technicalities over her positions on the struggles of the large-and-in-charge don't overshadow the fact that this is a fabulous conversation with Mo'Nique who delivers her opinions and insights with her signature (and definately larger than life) attitude and comedy.
Rating: Summary: Skinny women aren't as fat and lazy as me Review: This should be the new title of this book. Why does this lady have to complain about someone being skinny. The only reason anyone listens to her at all is because she has some money and is on television. I just saw her on television and on the cover of her book and I swear she is wearing clothes that are skin tight so she can showcase her fat. Whoever thought being a fat, lazy, obnoxious blob would be a selling point. I guess it worked for Roseanne, who shares the same, "I'm fat, you're stupid and I hate everyone in the world who isn't just like me attitude". I have met a lot of very nice people in my life who are over weight and it probably is the case that people who are overweight have to concentrate on developing their personality more and relying less on their physical looks to fall back on but that is no excuse to blame people. Maybe there were some people who were mean to her but she turned out to be just as hateful a person. She has really defeated herself by talking about a legitimate topic in an unintelligent way. My advice to Monique: Gain another 100 pounds so your hand is too fat to lift and write another piece of garbage book like this.
Rating: Summary: Self-esteem Builder!! Review: This was a funny book. But besides it being funny, it was and is a good self-esteem builder. Mo'Nique is in love with herself...in a good way. Her self-esteem is where EVERY woman's should be--big or small. She knows who is she is and offers insights to women about how to get there. Good book.
Rating: Summary: Mo'nique is hilarious! Review: To all those who took this book too seriously: Lighten up! Mo'nique is a comedienne, not a journalist. She exaggerates to make a point. She writes like a BIG sister telling you how it is. Besides, skinny women ARE evil because they're starving and want to make everyone else to be as miserable as they are.
