Rating: Summary: yummy pee pee go milk milk now... Review: don't play leap frog with unicorns..
Rating: Summary: Great! Review: Great picures, doesn't have ALL songs, but almost all. Very good buy though.
Rating: Summary: Questionable Review: I agree with the other readers who mentioned that Kurt continually said that many of Nirvana's songs were just pulled from random lines in his poetry. In fact, I have read countless interviews that attest to this. This book, while somewhat factual, seems to stretch connections too far. Nirvana's songs have personal meaning to me and my life, and really that is all that matters. I don't need an author's guesses at what Nirvana songs mean.
Rating: Summary: I love Kurt forever Review: I don't own the book because I don't think that a mere author of a book can tell me what Kurt was thinking or feeling when he wrote these songs. I know in my heart what Kurt was thinking and feeling. I love him. I probably will buy the book just because I collect everything Nirvana. So, if you're a true Nirvana fan -buy it but have your own interpretation.
Rating: Summary: Nice pictures. Good book. Nothing amazing. Review: I only have read two Nirvana books, so I can't compare to any other. To me is a worth-buying book. It has nice pictures, stories of their songs. It is not the greatest thing in the world, but I still think it's very good.
Rating: Summary: One Of My Favorite Books But Not Complete Review: I've Always Liked Books Which Offer The Stories Behind Songs,But There Are Problems Which Arise Concerning This Book.First,Not EVERY Song Is Mentioned.I Realize That Alot Of The Lesser-Known Songs Would Be Difficult To Get Much Dirt On But That Leads One To Say That Maybe The Title Should Have Been,"The Story Behind Most Of Nirvana's Songs".Sure,Not The Best Marketing Scheme,But You Know What I Mean."Every" Was A Bit Extreme. Also,As I Notice Someone Else Mentioned,Cobain Himself Insisted That Most Of His Songs Were Meaningless. He May Have Been Just Saying That,Maybe Alittle Embarressed About Telling People What He Really Meant,But Then Maybe He Wasn't.I Guess There Can Be Deeper Psychological Meanings To Things Even When They're Just Written At The Spur Of The Moment With No Thought Worked Into It At All,But Some Of The Stories Provided Didn't Add Up.Such As Why "Breed" Was Originally Titled "Immodium"Because Of A Tourmates Bout With A Sick Stomach.I Can See The Immodium Connection In The Story But Not With The Song "Breed".There's No Mention Of Diarreah Anywhere In "Breed".Just A Qualm I Have With The Book.I Think Stories And Explainations Were A Bit Pushed For.Otherwise,I Quite Like The Book,But More For The Stories That Actually Make Sense And Add Up.
Rating: Summary: Incredibly helpful for the Nirvana fan Review: Kurt Cobain was pretty famous for writing beautiful songs that were hard to understand in many ways; at times, it was hard to even understand the words he was saying. While this book does not have lyric sheets to the songs, it does contain the stories behind the songs. The combination of the two - lyric sheets (usually available with Nirvana CDs) and this book containing the stories behind the songs - makes the music that much more enjoyable. I don't think that having insight into the stories behind the songs, and what the songs meant to Kurt, prevents us from creating our own meanings for these songs as well. The only thing that I think was unfortunate about this book is the "teen beat-esque" layout. I would have preferred a more subdued and dignified format for this book. But the great text more than makes up for that. My favorite stories are the ones told about the meanings for the songs: "Heart Shaped Box," "Lithium," "Lounge Act," and "Very Ape."
