Summary: Morbid curiosity
Review: The essential message of The Dirt seems to be that excessive drugs, alcohol and sex will ruin your life, unless you are a member of a gritty, determined metal band, and then they will ruin you life, but you will be (in)famous. Reading the book could be equated to a mile-long car wreck on the side of the road involving everything from 18-wheelers to Mazeratis--you just can't not look at it.

While the Pulitzer committee won't be calling anytime soon, the story is a fascinating one and benefits from being told by at least four independent points of view. Readers looking for scintillating tales of sex, drugs and rock'n'roll won't be disappointed, but what actually makes the book worth reading is that ultimately, through their own words, these guys are revealed as human in the sense that the average non-rock star can identify with the outlandish members of Motley Crue on some level. Not normal. Not average. But still human.

Summary: A fun read
Review: Not earthshattering, however, their candor kept me flipping pages.

Summary: Terrible, yet. . . in a Good way!
Review: WARNING! Picking up this book is like watching a train wreak. A tragedy you can't advert your eyes from. And since these ... are actually interesting you won't feel that you wasted your time. In fact I'm convinced that one day Mick Mars will ascend into the sky, illuminated by "little-baby-jesus-rays" and become a patron Saint to everyone who has had to endure the torment of co-workers from Hell! Bless Him and let him find the peace he so richly deserves. Amen!

Summary: Wow....this is definitley the crue!!
Review: I picked this book up becaue at the time, I couldn't find anything better. I was an 80's child and although I did like Motley, I prefered their more pop tours, like "girls, girls, girls" and "Dr. Feelgood", not so much the heavier rock like "Shout at the Devil". Id rather listen to (and look at) Poison and Bon Jovi. But who couldnt be in love with Vince, Tommy, and Nikki, anyway? So going into it indifferently, I opened the book and did not put it down until the last 430 long pages. Holy cow!! What a read. It is lewd and crewed, it is Motley crue. The book is set up different, each band member and occasionally a manager or a big wig from a elektra records will have there own chapter, it may be a small chapter or not, but its like they are talking to you directly, telling you there own expierences from the very first years of Motley to the present. And its funny how they have their own stories and disagree with one another, like who was the cause of this certain fight, etc.. But not so funny was so much info and hardship that they each expierenced in their own right. My God, who knew? Mick Mars is a skitzo, Tommy is starving for attention, Nikki is or strives to be the leader and Vince is a sex maniac! (Well they are pretty much all big time sex driven :) unreal some of these stories!!) The way it is written in their own words, litterally, you can actually hear it, for example, Tommy's chapters are filled with "dude" and "yo bro". But it is purly a book that you can no way put down, each chapter leaves you in suspense for what happened next in the tour, or in the lives. Be warned, if you have virgin ears (or eyes in this case) this book is in no way for you. The amount of talk about sex and drugs is the majority, and it is in no way proper. It is almost porn. It is just true to life and pure Motley Crue.

Summary: Most shocking and amazing book I've ever read!
Review: If you buy anything this is the book to buy. If you thought you knew everything about Motley Crue, you haven't heard nothing until you read this book. This book will keep you on your toes and shocked out of your mind!

Summary: Rock N Roll Decadence at its best!!!
Review: THE DIRT gives us the behind the scenes look at the band that we thought we knew almost everything about. MOTLEY CRUE has been one of the top rock bands of the last 20 years and now we know the rest of the story. We get a look at their childhoods upto the present. I can say that there is never a dull moment when reading this book. The tales they tell make all the other rock stories seem tame. We see how drugs nearly destroyed the band, how dysfunctional their relationships with each other are. We get to see who slept with who's girlfriend, usually it was Vince the sex maniac. All the dirt of the last 20 years of the band is on display here and if you are a fan of the band, you will read this and really get the whole story. If you are just an avid reader, then I think that you will also enjoy this book. This book gets 2 thumbs up

Summary: And we thought we knew the Crue!
Review: This is an amazing book. Lots of stuff that I never ever knew. And We thought we knew the Crue. Not even a little. This book goes from the crue being kids to present. Very very good read. Ive read it twice. I cried when Vince was talking about Skylar. Worth every penny.

Summary: Can't put it down.
Review: What can be said about the Crue that hasn't already been said? Apparantly a whole book's worth. For fans of what REAL rock n roll is all about, this is the supreme tale of rock superstardom. Vince is a sex maniac, Nikki is a heroin addict, Mick has a disease that's plagued his entire life, and Tommy, well his heart seems to be in the right place.

I agree with Vince, once Nikki (the main songwriter) started heroin, the albums just weren't as good (Theatre of Pain, and Girls, Girls, Girls). Yeah the hits were always there, but there was a whole lot of filler.

The main reason I got the book was to learn more about Mick, the Crue's mystery man. You'd be surprised. He named the band, and picked Vince to be the singer. He's done everything (to include hanging his brother). To see what he's done with his life despite his spinal problems and all, well my hat goes off to him.

My favorite story? There were so many. But the one I remember most was when Mick passed out on the beach when Razzle died. Mick thought he was dead himself you see. When he went back to the Motley House and saw everyone crying, he thought they were crying for him. He was convinced he was a ghost and tried to walk through the door without opening it!!!

Here's to you Mick, Tommy, Nikki, and Vince. Through all your craziness, ups, downs, and adventures (you gotta read about the Ozzy Tour!!!), you put out some of the greatest rock n roll the world knows.

Review: ...
Lets face it,back in the 80's no one could touch these guys as far as debauchery and gut wrenching rock n roll but its 2002.I read the book on the flight out and sat in my seat giggling at their insane antics.Although the book is written in almost a diary way its all in past tense so the guys reflect on what they did in hindsight which made it a more interesting read. You wanna feel sorry for them but its kinda hard when you own 10 mansions,20 Ferrari's,private jets, have the best drugs, are banging the hottest women on earth, and have millions of fans around the world. This is what rock n roll is suppossed to be about the way i understood it...Buy this book.you will laugh, you will cry and you will see a side of the music business most people never realize exists...

Summary: couldn't put it down
Review: I grabbed it on my way out of the bookstore as an impulse buy hoping to not be disipointed. And I wasn't at all. I am a huge Crue fan from the beginning and this is exactly what I needed. From the minute I picked it up I couldnt put it down until I was finished 2 days later. There was a lot of insight to who they really where. I was suprized though on how much crying that Tommy did twords the end. Makes him sound like an emotional Pu**y who can't deal with life. "Dude get away from the thereapists." And Suprized on how much of the book was dedicated to Nikki which I didn't ever think he was a geek. Just funny how he didn't know how to go out on a date with a hot chick any more after he had been all f**ked over!

It was great I'll probably read it again
