Rating: Summary: Not for the faint hearted!!! But this book @!*$@# ROCKS!! Review: I keep putting this book down... This book has taken so long to get through...BECAUSE I DON'T EVER WANT IT TO END!!!! I have never read a book where i would finish a chapter and go back to re-read it immediately! It's amazing that Motley Crue has this kind of detailed recall considering the lifestyle, but I BLESS them for it!! This is a truly gritty read but if your like me, THAT'S THE BEST KIND. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR, BUY IT NOW.
Rating: Summary: Thoroughly entertaining Review: I am definitely no fan of Motley Crue. I find their music to be the equivalent to nails on chalkboard. Their personal lives however is a whole 'nother can of worms to open. Yes, Motley Crue is another childish, immature, self-absorbed, wild, narcisstic, out of control band from the '80s hair metal scene but "The Dirt" is just too irresistable to not read. The former drummer Tommy Lee proves himself to be the consumate moron since his own actions he described in this book showed to me that his IQ is just a few points below a brick. I laughed at his journal entries from the time he spent time in the pokey. He comes off sounding utterly childish and immature, nor does he sounds like he had learned anything while in the pokey. The stories behind Nikki Sixx and Vince Neil were probably the most interesting parts of the book, especially the chapter of Vince's beloved daughter Skylar. That chapter just tore me. Nikki's life is just incredible. It is amazing that he still breathes today. I loved this book even if I don't love the band's music.
Rating: Summary: Even Non-Fans Will Love This Book! Review: Really, I'm not a Motley Crue fan. I could name about 3 of their songs before I read this book. But I heard someone say it was great so I bought it and I couldn't stop reading it! If you grew up in the 80s and want to know what the last of the huge rock stars were doing back then, this is the perfect book. You learn to really love these guys as the veneer is rubbed off on their glamorous and fascinating public lives to reveal there are four pretty cool, warm-hearted guys in this band. I was reading it on the airplane and my wife was reading it over my shoulder. As soon as I finished it, she read it too. A great, fun, thoughtful read.
Rating: Summary: How are they still alive? Review: If you want to read an excellant book on the lifestyles of rock. ,then this books for you. From the booze, drugs and women, this thing has all the debauchery and more. I started reading it and it`s one of those books you can`t stop reading-loved it!
Rating: Summary: YA GOTTA GET THIS BOOK Review: I was never a big Motley Crue fan - but I am now! Yeah, it's another Sex,Drugs and Rock-n-Roll book - but it has something more. The guys take you from their childhood years up till 2001. I admire their honesty and openess. I'm surprised they had any clarity at all. I couldnt put this book down. I'm amazed that these guys are still alive, especially Nikki. This book brought back memories, made me laugh, made my jaw drop and caused me to cry like a baby. I loved every page but the one chapter that really "touched" me is the one with Vince talking about his little girl - NO one should have to go thru that, especially a 4 year-old. Vince if your reading this, I'm sooo sorry.
Rating: Summary: Good rock and roll fun! Review: Very interesting and enjoyable - not only did we hear some tales about some of the bad boys of rock and roll, but we also saw a painful human side to them.
Rating: Summary: Good Read Review: I enjoyed this book - what a life these guys have had - but I must say 'read it with a pinch of salt'. I love the crue, but they're bright enough to know kids love the Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll thing. They have always exploited, and to some degree exaggerated this. It's still a cracking read, wish we could turn the clock back and do it all again - I'll never forget buying Too Fast For Love on Leathur records...Shame Nikki has a dig at Kiss - without Kiss there'd be no Crue.. Anyway, buy and enjoy. Great stuff.
Rating: Summary: BUY THIS BOOK! Review: I highly recommend your purchasing The Dirt. Once I began, I simply could not put it down (finished in 4 days). Written in a free-flowing, conversational style with intertwining perspective from each member (and their unwitting victims), The Dirt is refreshingly honest - to the point of being raw, sometimes sad, and often very funny. In fact, Mick Mars (unexpectedly) owns quite a wry sense of humor and many hearty laughs came from reading his off-beat perspectives. In the end, you learn a lot more about the members of Motley Crue and their half-baked adventures, trials and tribulations. We all know about the sex, drugs and rock & roll (though not to the extent described by them). However, the book also delves into areas you didn't expect to tap into -- their heart, soul, fears, failures, personal loss, hopes and dreams. Look, I became a member of the CRUE ARMY at the not so tender age of 14. I am proud to say that after reading this book I have reinlisted and I am rooting for (and with) Nikki and the Crue to take over the world --- AGAIN! If you have never thought yourself a Motley Crue fan, I challenge you to get Dirt(y)!
Rating: Summary: The Dirt Is Depressing Review: I bought and read this book hoping to laugh at some wild rock-n-roll war stories. What I got was a book documenting four really sad stories. These guys have been to hell and back and are currently paying the piper. It was more of a downer than I had hoped it would be. But still, a must read for die hard Motley Crue fans - but the story is a bummer - A book like this makes one feel happy for what they have in their life, and for what they do not have to put up with.
Rating: Summary: Bits and pieces of extreme ignorant narcissism Review: Pick up just about any tell-all book about a rock-n-roll group written in the last 20-30 years and it will probably tell you much of what you read here. This is basically the same worn out story, just a different chapter, group, and year. What is the story? Four self-centered morons with an ounce of musical talent struggle early on to make it big, while doing incredible amounts of drugs, booze and women. The guys make it big, while continuing to do massive amounts of drugs, booze and women. Guys hit the top, start to battle personal "demons" (due to the fact that they are all drug addicts now), start a downward spiral, recover to some extent, try to regroup, blah blah blah, yada yada yada. The fans of the group will like this book. The person with higher than average intelligence who has read a few books like this before will be bored, insulted, and maybe only occasionally amused. This is a book about incredibly shallow, stupid, selfish, filthy, ridiculous people who have served absolutely no purpose in this world other than to make some really bad music. Yes, they are washed up now. Thank goodness. Unfortunately, another moronic band (several come to mind) that is enjoying their rise to the top while doing incredible amounts of drugs, booze and women will probably assault us with the same sad published story next year.
