Rating: Summary: Thompson, First to Speak Accurately about our Generation Review: This is the most amazing book I've ever read. It's so beautiful I was balling at the end and I never cry. It is the first book to speak accurately about our generation... especially about those who have been raised in a religious environment and are left with feelings of unease and lots of unanswered questions.
Thank you Thompson, for writing this work. It's incredible.
Rating: Summary: just like heaven. Review: I knew that when I saw this book upon the pages of this site it would be something that would appeal to me. The cover itself is beautiful, and sent me into a rush. Barnes and Noble closes at nine, and I found out about this book at eight. I made a mad dash only to find that the store did not have it, but a phone call to another store and it was on hold, waiting for me. I was told I had three days to acquire it, but I seriously wanted it immediately.
So I drove with persistence, having only thirty minutes to make it before the store closed, and arrived with ten minutes to spare [I walked into the store just as the announcement to take all purchases to the register was given]. After this, my car stalled a few times on the way home [as it is prone to do] holding back my time to partake of the book itself. Needless to say I came home in one piece.
As soon as I got home I closed my door and put on light music and cracked open the story.
I cannot imagine a better story than "Blankets." To me, coming-of-age stories just do not get any better than this. Being a confused adolescent the themes of finding onself spiritually hit very close to home. The love story, also, could not have hit closer. It's elegant, and innocent, and perfectly emotional.
I read this in one sitting, and it will not be my last. The story is so well-written, and flows so well. I strongly, strongly encourage anyone reading this to read "Blankets" instead.
It is just that good.
