Summary: This is a Great Book
Review: This is such a great book, I laughed and cried. Being a parent of a 11 year old with CF, I was never sure that the feelings I have are normal, but after reading this book I can see that the feelings the things I think about are a normal part of having a precious child with CF. I recommend this book to any one who wants to learn about life with a CF child.

Summary: Real People, Real Life With CF
Review: This is the 'Frank DeFord story of the new millenium.' The Dietrich family is a beautiful one and you will enjoy getting to know them in their story. Theirs is a life in progress (no sad ending here). If CF is part of your life, you will see yourself, your child(ren), your spouse, your loved ones throughout this book as you read about a normal family living their life, coping with their daughter's CF. For those who know little about the disease, the book provides an accurate account of one's journey through life with cystic fibrosis. It is a book to be shared so that awareness can be raised by this fatal disease, and hopefully a cure found!

Summary: The Spirit of Lo
Review: This was truly an inspiring book. It was very well-written and provided tremendous insight into the challenges that families face when someone in their family has a chronic, life-threatening illness. The Detrichs have successfully kept their family, marriage and individual lives together under very difficult circumstances. Lo's spirit is so awesome!

Summary: Not What I Hoped
Review: While I respect the idea of human spirit rising over adversity, I did not find that this book touched me in a way that similiarly themed stories did. Though the book reads easily, I found it to be rather forced at times and somewhat choppy in the story telling. I also found that the authors spent more time celebrating the way THEY overcame the adversity rather than their daughter. Additionally, I did not deeply feel the pain and the anguish that made the rising spirit all the more meaningful. It is an interesting account of the ways in which CF is now being treated and the ways in which everyday people can contribute to the fight. However, if you found this book interesting or want to learn more about the impact of this devestating illness, I beg you to read Frank Deford's "Alex:The Life of A Child". I find that once you've been touched by the spirit of Alex Deford, much else will pale in comparision.
