Rating: Summary: For children and adults Review: This book is not the movie, which I would not let children watch because of its graphic sexual content. The book was a clean, even noble, discussion of Ron Kovic's early optimism in life and his later disillusionment with the war and the government's treatment of veterans. This book is the story of Mr. Kovic's early all-American years before the war, his war experiences, his injury experiences, and his changes of heart that drove him to activism. I would love to read a second volume of Mr. Kovic's life story and get an update on his life to date.
Rating: Summary: It is really creepy Review: This book is really deep, now I or my immediate family was in Veitnam but a friend of mine was in the Gulf War (Operation Desert Strom). He told me that it was a very intense book and you've served in a war, you'll get it!
Rating: Summary: The most exciting Book that leads you on! Review: This book was made for a man who risked his life in war. This semi-graphic book is fit for all ages mostly for teenagers about a man who's life is turned in to another

Rating: Summary: There's still a lump in my throat... Review: This story tore my heart out. My dad served two tours in Vietnam as well, although he came home "in one piece" and appears to be unaffected. However, he doesn't ever really talk about his experiences there. I honestly believe it is still too painful, although he'd never admit that out loud. He's also never been able to hunt again (a passion he shared with his father before he went to war). Prior to reading this book I could only imagine what he must have seen and gone through. Ron Kovic's book brought it to life, and it's terrifying to say the least. Katherine D. Arkel
Rating: Summary: where have all the flowers gone? Review: War is a tragedy with many faces. As a survivor of Viet-nam (1970 Americal Division) this book is a reminder to me of how BULLS**T POLITICS and POLITICAL EGOS can forever alter the lives of human beings. In the summer of 1996, while traveling the Inside Passage to the Alexander Archipellago (S,E,Alaska) I had in my library a copy of "BORN ON THE 4th OF JULY". I thought I'd seen all the horrors of war but Ron Kovic opened my eyes!!! For another perspective on the Viet-nam era, while reading BORN ON THE 4th OF JULY, also read Larry Charriers -TIDELINES. Another interesting twist. Not more than 5 miles from my chair sits another monument to Viet-nam era STUPIDITY. "TURNER JOY"is still alive in the hearts of some as a legit excuse for this country to destroy the lives of innocent people.
