Summary: Highly recommended
Review: A beautifully written book by an amazing woman. Seren Tuvel's story is incredibly touching and difficult to forget. How could anyone retain such gentleness, caring and compassion in the face of such horror?! I cried several times while reading this book yet couldn't put it down. This is one of the best first-hand Holocaust survivor books ever written. Highly recommended

Summary: Triumph of the human spirit
Review: A powerful work of history. This beautifully written memoire is a story of a woman's life from her birth in eastern Europe before the war, her survival of the death camps to her new life in America. This is "feminist" literature at its best.

Summary: A "Must Read"
Review: Considering the day and age we live in, this book should be a "must read" for all young adults. It, without a doubt, exposed what true hardships are in a time when people in general don't know what true human suffering really is. In this book, suffering, gives way to triumph and the reader is taken on a complete emotional journey. Read it, pass it along to your friends and see just how your perception will change.

Summary: I read this book 17 years ago!
Review: I do agree with the positive reviews that this is a wonderfully written book and a heart breaking story, but I think proper credit should go the writer who fashioned this story into the work that is is today. Seventeen years ago, my sister-in-law Louise Thornton, now Louise Loots, spent about two years working with Sarah Bernstein. She laboriously transcribed tapes by and personal interviews with Sarah. This was a major undertaking. I had the privalege of reading the manuscript back then and could hardly believe that it was not being published. Evidently seventeen years ago there were too many holocaust books on the market already. I'm really glad to see this published, but proper credit should go to Louise Loots for the writing.

Summary: A Survivor story which will live on with her memory
Review: I have read at least 40 survivor books, and this one was touching because it showed a human gentleness from Seren which never diminished, no matter what life brought her. She was always a caring sister, a loving daughter and a friend, and I found her to be extremely unselfish throughout her life's story. This book was touching, and left me crying. This remarkable woman should be honored, and reading her story is, perhaps, the best way for those of us who did not know her to honor her memory. Excellent reading.

Summary: Heartwrenching!
Review: I read it in one sitting. This book really touched me as no other has. I'm a 'tough guy', but sobbed like a baby at one particular point...but I won't give it away! I've collected some great WWII biographies, and this one tops the list.

Summary: Wonderfully touching
Review: I read this book last year and was unable to put it down. While I was on a trip, I refused to sleep until I read just a few more pages. The story is touching and should be read by people of all ages. It's a wonderful look into the horror that European Jews faced during the years of Nazi reign and terror.

Summary: An Amazing Graduation Gift
Review: I received this book as a graduation book after a recommendation from a friend...I could not put the book down. It flows easily so that it always holds your interest, and it is simply compelling. I highly recommend this book.
