Rating: Summary: Sportscentury's the Top 50 and Beyond: Steve Prefontaine Review: First off, I would like to say being a distance runner for my school's cross country and track teams that Steve Prefontaine is my idol. The way he ran with such confidence and finesse, and how he never second guessed going full-out during a race, even though it may have cost him some races at the end was truly remarkable. This guy had guts, and lots of it, he was also a colorful icon in the running world, much like Pete Maravich and Julius Erving were to the game of basketball. He was brash and cocky and was always in a bad mood when he didn't win a race but was also very friendly and became a popular figure in Oregon and later on, in America. Now, about the book, the minute I began reading the first chapter, I felt like I was watching an episode of ESPN Classic's Sportscentury: The Top 50 and Beyond. The way they interviewed people who knew Pre and gracefully described his races stride by stride really made this book hard for me to put down. The book, while short (only 166 pages, and that includes the 25 pages of photos approximately) is nonetheless, sweet and a very good read. However, I would not recommend you waste the [money that] this book costs, unless you are a diehard and just want to add this to your enormous book collection, borrow it from your local library instead, they ought to have a copy of it.
Rating: Summary: Good motivation for the everyday person Review: Good Stuff for everyone even people who aren't runners. Great information about the best runner in amrerica to ever live. Tom Jordan has packed this book from cover to cover with intense stuff.
Rating: Summary: Not as good as the Film Review: I have always firmly believed that the book is always better than the film. Not this time though. The guy was a legend & will always be associated with Nike. A very big compliment. Watch the Film !!

Rating: Summary: Pre's Running life Review: I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in running. It covers the running career of Steve Prefontaine with first hand accounts by the people who raced and trained with him. I feel like I really got a sense of who this man was and the impact his life had (and still has)on the running world. This book covers his high school, college, and international running career. There are many reflections from great runners about what pre meant to them, how he reacted to the AAU and his contributions to the people around him. Best of all there are alot of excellent pictures that capture Pre doing what he did so well...RUNNING!!
Rating: Summary: i am only 15 and once i started reading, i couldn't stop Review: I loved this book and it is very easy to read. This book up to today is still my favorite
Rating: Summary: Fantastic!!!! Review: I loved this book. My freshman year, I was an average/bad runner...I ran 3 miles in 20 mins! Then I read this book and saw the movies and it motivated me to work hard and drop my times significantly. Pre was the greatest U.S. runner of all-time and it's about time a book was written about him!!!!
Rating: Summary: Wow, Pre really was a blazing fire on the track. Review: I never new Pre. I competed years after he tragically died. Tom Jordans book took me back in time to my competitive days of high school and college. His detailed race analysis was excellent. The reader will feel like they have lost a friend.
Rating: Summary: The Book for anyone who thinks they know about dedication Review: I personally thought this book was excellent. Although some may not have liked the "stride by stride" of some of the races, I loved it. It got my heart pumping and my adrenaline going. I believe that Steve Prefontaine is a perfect example of what an American icon should be. I'm disappointed that there aren't many books on Pre, but I guess any others would be difficult to top after this one, and there isn't much else to say about him in the full scope of things. I'm a runner myself, and I might be a little biast on that topic. In any event, I'm glad there was this book on him and that it has the quality that it does.
Rating: Summary: I love the reviews of kids! Review: I ran track in Eugene, Oregon before there was a track team for women at the Uof O. I'm not going to read this book because I know it will break my heart, but I will say this: the best thing about Pre lives on in his ability to inspire, even if it's just one high school kid. I've read all the wonderful reviews, and I don't have to see the film or read the book to be filled anew with the emotion of seeing Pre run. The most wonderful thing about running in those days was being there, at that time, when you never knew just what night happen any day or night there was a track event at the U of O. Keep running kids, and you make us fast again!
