The public sees him in a wheelchair and looking comfortable and well. But to read what he endures for 3 hours before being able to get up every morning and for several hours before he can go to bed at night taxes human comprehension of what the human spirit can endure. He tells you how he endures. Perhaps not policitically correct, but by his own admission, he was privileged in much of his treatment and was afforded a higher quality of care because of his celebrity. How many critically ill patients get to have a restaurant cook and deliver their favorite foods at no cost? How many have neurosurgeons treat a sore on your foot? I would hope that the medical community would look beyond a person's station in life when assessing and treating brain and spinal cord injury. For me...the spirit and strength of Dana Reeve and other family members and friends is the foundation of the road that Christopher Reeve must travel. As web"mistress" for a site dedicated to TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) called The Road Less Traveled, I have heard amazing human tales of triumph and tragedy but perhaps his son Will summed it up so beautifully, "he can't walk..but he can smile". Out of the mouths of babes..the simple miracle of the human smile.

Review: I saw Reeve on numerous tv interviews promoting this book and was afraid I'd be saturated before I read it. But it was still worth reading as a scary, inspirational, and fascinating look at how life can change in the blink of an eye.One thing that impressed me in his interviews is how honest Reeve and his wife Dana are. This honesty comes through in the book, and Chris pulls no punches describing the horror, depression, and physical trials he must endure. He doesn't spout platitudes, but frankly expresses his feelings of getting a raw deal that he just must live with. I was a fan of Reeve's back in his soap opera days and always followed his career with interest. I'll be applauding the loudest the day he gets up and walks. And if he never does he's still a talented, courageous man who has so much to offer the world.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Engaging, but ultimately disappointing Review: I was interested in Christopher Reeve's story, and was drawn in completely by the first chapter. Sorry to say, though, the story turned treacly and boring quickly. Mr. Reeve's acting career is not interesting enough to keep the reader engaged, and he didn't delve into the world of the wheelchair-bound enough. While he has obviously brought attention to spinal cord injuries, he didn't weave that story well enough to keep my interest.

I have met a lot of celebrities in my lifetime, and I must say Christopher was one of the absolutely nicest of them all. His genuine love for people came through in the brief moments my friends and I spent with him. It shines through even more in this book, through his praise for the medical staff, his friends, and his family. I just had a former student suffer a serious spine injury. I plan to send him a copy of this book to teach him there is still hope and personal progress available to him and all who suffer the same type of accidents. Thanks Chris for sharing your tragedy and personal triumph with us all.

Review: This is a truly inspiring story about how one man has chosen to live life to its fullest despite his circumstances. Reeve is very candid about how his injury affected many aspects of his life and does not try to paint an entirely rosy picture. He is very honest, but yet still holds out hope. I believe that his determination to walk again will be rewarded one day. A true American hero and an inspiration to us all.

Christopher Reeve is one of those rare human beings who can truly rise above tragedy and find beauty in everyday life. I too believe that he will walk again. His determination, family and faith will help him find the way. God bless you Christopher!

Review: If you can read this book and still complain about the tiny things in life, then your heart is made of stone. I've never read a book that made me want to get up (as horrible as this may sound) and take a walk, smell the flowers, go skiing...I want to enjoy every bit of my life and take nothing for granted. This book is life affirming, funny, sweet, heartbreaking and beautifully written. Well done!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Hero Review: The book was fairly clinical in its presentation of the accident, injury and more passionate about Mr. Reeve's subsequent rehabilitation. I appreciated learning the facts on spinal injuries, the biology. What inspired me was Christopher Reeve's intense dedication to walk again. Not only is he a hero to those involved in similar tragedies, but also to regular folk, like me, who realize how truly fortunate I am, and how much I take my ho-hum-drum life for granted. Not only do I pray for his recovery, but I pray for the countless hundreds of thousands he lends his voice to.
