Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Great insight and inspiration Review: Chris Reeve is no literary genius, but he can certainly spin a tale. As difficult as it already is for someone to write a good, engaging auto-biography, Reeve manages it while paralyzed from the neck down, and yet without self-pity.The earlier parts of his life provide great insight to his character, and to why we all admire him so much as an oasis of class in an otherwise often smarmy business. I particularly enjoyed his recounting of his Cornell and Juilliard experiences. But it was his description of the accident and its aftermath that moved me greatly. To be able to write about these experiences must have been helpful for Reeve emotionally, but I feel like throwing the book against a wall when I realize that he still can't get up and walk. I can only imagine how many thousands of times more frustrating it is for Reeve himself. There is of course information on how to help the Foundation he started to fund spinal cord regeneration studies, and I think - though I'm not positive - that some of the profits from every book purchased go towards that fund as well. Simply put - when you're picking a role model, or even someone to be curious about on a rainy day or an airplane flight, you could do a whole hell of a lot worse than Christopher Reeve.

I knew him from his films when he was still healthy, then I heard about his accident and, then, I saw his performance at the Oscar's Night some years ago. This impressed me very much so that I wanted to know more. Well, and what I got to know was a person who has my deepest sympathy and admiration. The way he describes his own story is very honest, full of emotions but also very clear like a report. He reflects all part of his former and current life with all the nuances he experienced it. I'm full of respect for Christopher Reeve who had this incredible power of belief to find back into life. I cannot imagine that I had this power, I hope I'll never need it, but his book even helps to overcome some daily trouble, to gain a realistic perpective when the world seems to be against me. I wish Mr. Reeve all the best for his future and hope so much that the science will increase his chances to recover more and more.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Inspiration Review: I have rarely read a book so inspirational & uplifting, as this, the story of a remarkable man who has overcome all odds and come to terms with a totally disabling condition. I was also surprised by the scope and versatility of his acting experience, We all tend to lump Chris Reeve in the "Superman" category. He is a talented and accomplished classical actor of great merit, and respected and revered by most of our "legends" also. I personally feel humbled and ungrateful, when I think of the torment and triumph this wonderful man has shown the world. Good luck Chris. I know you will walk again someday!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Deeply moving and motivating. Review: Christopher & Dana Reeve had the opportunity to either retreat in self-pity or go forth as role models for the millions of disabled and injured. How courageous of them to share their story in this fight for understanding, support and hope for the future of all trauma victims. Reading about the preparations just to get him dressed in a tux and wheeled to the mike for the APA benefit, I applaud the thousands of individuals (like Juice/Glenn Miller) who spend their working lives contributing value, self-worth and harmony to a life thrown into total chaos. May Mr. Reeve be an inspiration to those who cannot speak for themselves, the invisible injured. May his voice lead the roar, "we won't go away, give us the funding and research!" Mr. Reeve's haunting dream of the nocturnal sailor speaks to the legions of us who want more in our lives but seem paralyzed for one reason or another. His calendar of activities today are overwhelming. Thank you, Chris & Dana, for a story of courage.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Reeve writes for a larger audience, not other quads. Review: Reeve provides a well-organized account of his life, with an emphasis on relationships, in Still Me. Relationships, he claims, is the way through. He indeed explains how he has been affected by both familial and professional relationships, and he includes many people who have been his benefactors before and after his accident. The book is replete of the author's relationships with insurance companies, politicians, physicians, institutions, and the beautiful people of Hollywood. These and his fans are his audience, for whom he seems brave, even when discouraged. Disabled persons will look for and not find, in Still Me, their misery articulated for the world. However, the Christopher Reeve Foundation, for which the author has raised much money, will surely benefit most if not all who suffer spinal cord injuries in succeeding generations. Some readers might get bogged down in the sections dealing with science and politics. The reader gets a glimpse of the life of a high-level quadriplegic and a long look at the routines of a relatively wealthy one who has many connections and much fame. But if readers are looking for Reeve's thoughts and feelings about his disability, to be shared in soul exposing-candor, they will be disappointed. His descriptions of events and people are often as sterile as new catheter.

Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: An Intelligent and Informative Autobiography Review: Having already read Reeve's second book "Nothing is Impossible", I wanted to read his autobiography "Still Me". I truly enjoyed reading the second book. However, I am a little disappointed with "Still Me". In addition to the general tone of the book, I was suprised by the incoherent nature in which this book is presented. While I am sure the biography was once in a more chronological order, I believe the book was deteriorated by poor editting decisions. The story of Christopher Reeve is tragic. Being confined to a wheel chair for nearly ten years has severely limited the career of a talented actor. Reeve is likely to be remembered type cast to his role as Superman despite this being only a small measure of his acting capabilities. Because of his injury, more than Reeve's acting career was limited. His interactions with family and others have been altered. Additionally, the simple pleasures have been taken away from him. However, Reeve finds unlimited joy in a loving wife and beautiful children. The title of the book is a reflection of this joy. I found the chapters in which he wrote about his disability and recovery prospects most interesting. Reeve has served as a great ambassador to educate the public about spinal cord injuries. These chapters were intertwined with the chapters of his life and career before the accident. I found the arrangement of chapters distracting from the overall story and tone. Because of the arrangement of the chapters, Reeve comes across as being very bitter. While I know he has reason to be angry, I do not believe that is how he is. For this reason, I believe poor decisions about the layout of the book take away from its quality. Nevertheless, I still found the book to be interesting and entertaining.

I broke my back at the T9 veritably, and now I'm paralyzed from the wisest down. When I first can out of my coma all that I could think about or ask for was to kill me. Than when I read about how Mr. reeves had gone through somewhat the same thing I was going through. So than I started to think if he had the power, heart, and desertion. Maybe I could do it to. Most of all my family was there through all of it from the first second to this day. Thank you MR. Reeves I just want to thank you for sharing his story. Shawn Nadeem 16
