Shirley Maclaine not only teaches us about the Camino but takes us on an inner journey in search of universal truth, self-discovery and self-realization. Her poetic writing is the icing on the cake: "Life on earth is somewhere between feeling liberated and deprived. Like a harp string-if it is too tight, it won't play, if it is too loose, it hangs. The tension that produces the beautiful sound lies in the middle ... The earth mother is our link to who we are as her spiritual children. And as her inhabitants, our balance and harmony will insure hers."

The material is shocking...so shocking I had to put it down for a few minutes before I was compelled to finish it. Everyone should read this book. Thank you, Shirley.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Strange Review: This is another strange book by Shirley MacLaine. It's written in her typical style of giving us all the details that we don't need like her squatting to pee. Aside from her graphic details, I also think she gets carried away with her spiritual findings. So maybe past lives exist and she remembers them but she gets to be privy to God's secrets that even Mother Theresa never got? It's a bit much to swallow but if you can get past this as her truth then it can be a fun read. Her writing style is easy and flows nicely. And she does write in such a way that you are on the Camino with her even if you don't agree with her spiritual truths (I'm sure some will but not me). The book does get you to want to go on The Camino one day too.

Another book that is spiritually enlightening and challenges the reader discover their purpose in life is "Faithwalk" by Bonnie Oliver. Today so many people are looking for so many answers and gaining understanding of the suprenatural is key to that understanding.

Shirley Maclaine's book exemplifies why this journey holds such mysticism and the importance it has on discovering the deeper meanings of life. It does not sanitise the pilgrimage but delivers it raw and hard, difficult and dangerous, but also tremendously rewarding as each stage is completed and the goal becomes nearer. I have just reached the same decade as Maclaine, and she's almost thrown me down a personal challenge. A worthwhile read.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: She lost the point of the Camino Review: The author completely lost the point of El Camino. This pilgrimage, about 1000 years old, is a Christian Catholic route. I have made the pilgrimage myself last year. All the teachings and stops during the way confirm the validity of the teachings in the Bible, and they are very different from the things MacLaine describes as her findings.

It is a nice attempt on her part trying to pilgrimage among those not quite normal people she encounters on the ancient path of the Camino in Spain. Yes, I agree with her, dogs are dreadful creatures, but she doesn't realize how decadent man's best friend is. Would wolves have attacked or frightened her? No. The wolf is peaceful, quiet, respects man, has psychic dignity. The movie "The Mexican" shows Oscar winning superstars sitting on toilets. On the Camino you can find that too. Of course girls pull down their pants to "make water", even while on the Holy Pilgrimage, as all the girls who pilgrimaged before in history. Oh, Shirley! It was obviously a bit too hard for you, but you did it, anyway! Gerborg...
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Interesting Journey Review: Until I picked up this book, I had never heard of the Camino. It was wonderful being able to tag along with Shirley on this spiritual, historical, and very physically demanding journey. The book presents the rudeness of the people and media with regards to movie personalities. As I've gotten older, I find I'm much more interested in books that provide history or a alternative view point. This book is not for you if you don't have an open-mind.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: CAPTIVATED Review: From "Out On A Limb" to the "Camino" (and all her books in between), Shirley MacLaine captivates me with her writing, her amazing experiences and her truths. Shirley's books have not only inspired me they have been the catalyst for an incredible spiritual journey of my own. I am in awe of this woman who lays her celebrity status and her credibility on the line in order to share her uniqueness, knowledge and amazing experiences with the world. The Camino was such a compelling book to read and even my husband (the world's biggest sceptic)got much out of it, especially the chapter about genetic engineering. I hold the belief that certain books choose us (not the other way around) and when The Camino fell into my hands, it was indeed a revelation because, after reading it, another part of the puzzle had been put in place. I understand. I understand so much more. Thank you, Shirley.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Babling on Ms.Maclaine's Camino Review: We used to know Ms.Mclaine very well from her films.Becoming a well known pesonality her every action has had got a great interest from public..Unfortunately I was deeply disappointed when I was reading her book..The Camino is a trekking, as it has been expressed, for soul purification. But I found in book only unceasing complain from the accommodation . What I looked for, was the narration of her inward metamorphosis that "Camino" might cause. Now and then some idyllic description and childish atlantis fiction and quasiphysical ley lines do not say anything to the hopeful readers. It is a sort of soup has been cooked with right ingredient but does not taste as it was intended.I am afraid that it is not a book that a real soul searcher like to have.By the way I may confess that I admired Ms.Maclaine's determination and physical endurance very much to complete this difficult travel.
