Summary: Great Dishy Book
Review: Although a Gucci fan, I never knew the story of how Maurizio Gucci's ex-wife hired someone to kill him. Maurizio was the founder, Guccio Gucci's grandson and the last family member running the company before they sold Gucci, Inc. This is an page turner, written with insite and intelligence. It's also a very interesting account of how the Gucci empire was built and sold telling the ins and outs of a very disfunctional family.

Summary: great book for business and pleasure
Review: An amazing story of family business and culture and the dramas involved. The author does a wonderful job of character development and allows the reader to pick and choose who they root for to succeed in taking over the family affairs. I found myself frequently transplanted in the foreign countries inhabited by the characters. It was a delight to read and I recommend this to anyone interest in business, finance or fashion. The courtroom, boardroom, bedroom, and dinner table battles leave lessons for us all.

Summary: Fabric and thread
Review: And all this time I thought that fashion was just about fabric and thread! _The_House_of_Gucci_ was a terrific read because of all of the novela-style twists and turns and because of the way that it expertly documents the history of a family, an industry and an era. I suppose that one of the morals of the story is "be careful who you marry" but another is sure to be "there's always a new revenue stream." I especially appreciated the background information regarding the family members and the hired hands like Tom Ford and Domenico De Sole as this information really gave the story the sort of depth that similar accounts lack. This book is proof positive that in business, as in life, there is usually more to the story than meets the (customer's) eye.

Summary: "Dynasty", "Dallas"...."Gucci"?
Review: Having worked in the fashion industry for the likes of Gianni Versace and Georgio Armani, I was naturally inclined to read this intriguing book based on the rise, fall and rise again of the house of "Gucci". I found the first half of the book to be the most facinating. The author does an excellent job in vividly decribing the humble beginnings of Guccio Gucci's small leather goods business to its eventual capitulation into a Billion dollar company...

The book reads right out of a script of "Dallas" or "Dynasty"...with the squablings, betrayals, greed and glamour associated with those t.v. shows....only this book's storyline is real. I was particularly impressed with the great amount of effort put into decribing each of the important characters associated with the Gucci saga. One really walks away with a true sense of the mindset behind people like Marizio Gucci and his power-hungry wife...

I am confident anyone reading this book will find that it is hard to put down (and will encourage the reader to run to the latest "Gucci" boutique and pick up a crocodile handbag!)
