Like most people I was familiar with the story of little Adam Walsh and was very interested in this book. I began the book with a great deal of respect for John and Reve Walsh, but by the time I was finished my respect had increased tenfold. They survived the worst tragedy a parent can endure and fought to make something good come out of it--to make the world a safer place for children. Walsh is very honest, direct, and makes no apologies for the stance he takes--firmly on the side of the victims of crime. His stories of Adam, as well as those of children profiled on America's Most Wanted had me going into my then seven month old daughter's room and gazing at her asleep in her crib, thanking God for her and wondering how anyone could harm any child. She is now five, has a one year old sister, and I am grateful for people like John Walsh who stand up for all our children, and all victims of crime.

Absolutely heart-wrenching is this true story of a man's struggle to find closure after his son is brutally murdered. The story of an incompetant police department and with all odds against him, John Walsh somehow managed to come out on top. A must read for anyone with children or for anyone who thinks that certain things just don't exist in this great country. It will leave you in awe and will open your eyes to a world that you wished didn't exist!!
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Book Review for John Walsh: Tears of Rage Review: One of the most extraordinary memoirs that we had the pleasure to read is John Walsh: tears of Rage, co-written by Susan Schindehette. This memoir begins with John Walsh convincing the reader how "emotionaly strong" he is. He does this by mentioning experiences that he had to deal with in the past. Although these experiences were heart breaking, John handled the situation and got the job done. John Walsh had to deal with many morrible experiences in his life, but it only made him stronger in what he could deal with. John Walsh goes into the details about his son, Adam, who was kidnapped in 1981 at a local Sears store by an unknown assailant. In the memoir Mr. Walsh tells his readers all the things the police and him went through trying to locate his son. Mr. Walsh also worked on all cases that may have anyhting to do with his sons kidnapping. But in the end he couldnt do anything to save his son. He thought his neighborhood was safe so he couldn't understand how something like this could happen. One of the main things that Walsh wanted to get across to his readers is that there is no where safe anymore. That everyone has to watch out and try to stop these horrible acts from happening to our loved ones. Tears of Rage ended with a great and powerful conclusion. The conclusion is about how John deals with his son's death, and what he does about the loss. Mr. Walsh also said that he would devote all his time to the public from now on, he is doing this with his show, America's Most Wanted. The show tells the public about unsolved crimes by getting the faces of the criminals out to the public so they can identify them. We rated this memoir a 4 star, and the reason for this is because it is a great read that talks about life and how to handle all the problems that are envolved with it. So, if you want an awesome read, pick up John Walsh: Tears of Rage, you won't regret it.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A must read for all people Review: This book details the struggle of John Walsh and the personal tragedy that propelled him to international recognition as the star of America's Most Wanted. In 1981, his only son Adam Walsh was abducted from a Sears store at age 12. The resultant investigation and twists spurned the elder Walsh's crusade for justice. Although his son's case remains unsolved, Walsh remains dedicated to the cause of missing children everywhere. Although my background as a constitutional researcher makes me leery of most victims rights advocates (whose well intentions try to eliminate the constitutional safe guards they would likely want in a similar situation) I am predisposed to respect Walsh whose mission began and remains with noble pursuits of justice for all. Not one to mince words, Walsh's account of the ordeal takes us first to the picture of a serene family unraveled by a predator and then of parents fighting for their son's name and those of kids every where who had previously disappeared without people really wondering why. Although child abductions had been occurring for decades, the Walsh case was an example of a new willingness to expose it as a public crime instead of a private family matter. Believe it or not, there were legislators who actually considered the idea of missing children's legislation a joke. That such callousness could happen struck me as particularly cruel and disheartening, but the Walsh story reaffirms the idea that a small group of people with enough determination can really change the world. It is to Walsh's credit that the naysayers were silenced and whole generations of children and their relatives now have social and legal recourse against repeat incident when they do occur. I am not particularly a sentimental person, but this book still moves me to tears (as does the movie) every time I visit this case again. In terms of gruesome emotion, Freddy Krueger, Chucky and the like have nothing on this case for fear levels. Even people like myself who grew up hearing about the details of this case via a well-made tv movie will be horrified by this book.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: John Walsh is one of my heroes... Review: ...and do you want to know why? For one thing, he tells it like it is: whether it's refusing to shake hands with a senator who opposed the Missing Children Act, or telling the story of the "scumbag" that made him decide to host America's Most Wanted. He pulls no punches, and I love that.I had no idea what a large role Walsh has played in creating and promoting legislation for missing and exploited children until I read this book. I always knew he was an amazing man, I just didn't realize just how large a debt we, as society, owe him for the work he has done. Read this book. It will change the way you think about the police, the FBI, politicians, and many other things. It will make you want to get out there and help people, make a difference...I know it did for me.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Tears of Rage... The Review Review: 1. This book is about feelings, sadness and the belief to go on after facing one of the greatest disasters that any family, especially parents could possibly face in one's lifetime. What started out as a normal day routine suddendly turned into a gastly nightmare all in a matter of seconds. While shopping for just one item a mother trusts her 5 year old to stand by a game one aisle away and because of a mis-understanding, her child is ousted from the Sears store wiithout her knowledge. When she discovers her loss, the maternal instinct takes over as she feels panic and fear. Having her husband join in the search, both parents grab at straws in order to locate their son Adam. Night soon comes and the anquish compounds itself as the scariness of knowing their child is somewhere in the darkness crying and fearfull trying to understand why mom and dad aren't coming to get him. For days soon to appear, friends, family and parents go on a mission of posting posters of darling little Adam and asking anyone that will listen to their pitiful plea for help. The department store finally discovers that a young security guard assumed Adam was with an older boy that was involved in a scuffle with two other boys and was put out of the store thru a different door than Adam was used to. Dday after day, night after night came and went with no trace of the lost child. Eventually his poor little torso was found but his head was missing, and isn't located until much later when the suspected violated starts making statements. The tragedy of the lives of all involved is the start of a different path some would take, especially Adam's Father, John Walsh who was determined to do everything in his power to try and make sure that no other parent would ever have to go through what he and his wife were faced with. Taking chances and sheer determination proved that little Adam's death was not in vain. John Walsh pulled together a team of people that worked together to follow, and persue the violators until they were taken to court and prosecuted. Together they formed America's Most Wanted T.V. show that targets the worse criminals walking on your street and mine stopping people. p.s. This is such a good book, that I am already reading John Walsh's other books. Thanks for reading... S
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Every Community Needs a John Walsh Review: An amazing book that gives a raw, honest account of a man's struggle to solve the mystery of his son's death, and then to institute measures to facilitate others' similar searches. Walsh's narrative is painful to read, yet essential to communicate the depths of his feelings and to explain the intensity behind his search and chosen life's mission. He is driven beyond words, and has done an incredible amount of work throughout the country for missing persons and abducted children, not the least of which is the program he is know for creating (America's Most Wanted). This book is shocking in its exposure of the police incompetence and lack of statutory law Walsh faced throughout his quest, and in its description of the lengths he had to go to in order to get assistance and, ultimately, (some) answers. A salient point is that Walsh discovered (and describes in the book) a wealth of legislation and safety measures afforded to criminals, yet an appalling lack of the same for victims and their families. Walsh took it upon himself to make things happen for the sake of victims, including helping to enact legislation regarding missing children, assisting with the creation of nationwide databases of missing persons and unidentified corpses, and instituting the dissemination of missing kids' images (like the faces seen on the back of milk cartons). Walsh continues to run himself ragged pursuing his life's work of helping missing children and their families, seemingly at the cost of everything else. In addition to the telling of an incredible tale, Walsh is an exciting, and surprisingly witty, narrator that keeps the reader entertained amidst the recounting of tragedy. He is a true hero in every sense of the word. Simply put, without people like John Walsh, change for the better is impossible; anyone with kids should be grateful that he was able to turn his bitter tragedy into something so positive.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: painful, but powerful reading Review: "Tears of Rage" outlines the abduction and murder of Adam Walsh, son of John Walsh (of "America's Most Wanted" fame). It also describes the campaign John and Reve Walsh championed in the fight for children's and victim's rights. I found this book difficult to read because of the subject matter. John Walsh decribes the crime in graphic detail, as well he should because there is no way to "lighten" a crime of this nature. I am glad I read this book, but due to the graphic subject matter some may find this too disturbing to read. Having said that, I believe that anyone who cares about children will find this a very important, and relevant book to read.
