Summary: A good real look at a teenage life
Review: This book relates to many teenagers life. I mean many people go through several things in being a teenager. Some may end up like Bev and others may realize how close to that life they. I think this a book for everyone young and old.

Summary: great book, with historical significance
Review: This bok was a lot of fun to read. While the author does make a lot of excuses for her behavior, and she was clearly not a good parent (I can't imagine my mother smoking pot infront of the kids), she did have a lot of obstacles in her path. Her father being a police chief was trouble for her, but she was treated vey unfairly by the community. The police had no right to threaten her with a prostitution charge just because she slept around. It also shows that there was once a double standard for women (and probably still is). Unwed pregnancies were always the mothers fault, no one seemed to blame the guy for getting her pregnant. But what I don't like about the author is that after she graduated she didn't even try to work in a career. She simply took receptionist jobs and paid more attention to writing her silly stories. If this book weren't so well written, I would give an F.

Summary: A book every teenage girl should read.
Review: Beverly Donofrio is a truly gifted writer, her words paint pictures in your mind and you can see all of the charachters so clearly. This is a really great book, it reminds me alot of myself in high school although I didn't get pregnant. This is a wonderful story of a teenage mother who grows up with her son. She goes through a wild phase in high school, has a kid, gets married, gets divorced and realizes that she needs to turn her life around for her sake as well as her son's. This is one of the best books that I have ever read and I would recomend it to anyone, especially to teenage girls.

Review: Hit home. One of the best books I've read with and I loved the author's sense of humor and keeping everything in perspective. I will read it again someday and pass it on to long-time friends. The book was real as real gets.

Summary: Fantastic - Just wish Beverly had grown up a little more
Review: A wonderfully written story that was thought-provoking as well as hilarious, the best kind of read. My one complaint with the book was that the main character never accepts responsibility for her part in getting pregnant. She blames EVERYONE else instead - She blames her boyfriend (soon-to-be-husband), her mother, her school, society in general, women in general, she even puts the blame on her son! I find it impossible to believe that Beverly, even as a teenager, did not understand the connection between having sex and getting pregnant. As such, she must bear some of the responsibility. I was disappointed she never said this herself.

Summary: Why Hasn't This Woman Written More?
Review: Wonderfully told autobiography of a woman who learns some life lessons, and, in essence, "grows up" with her son. I read this book about seven years ago and thought it was terrific. Recently reread a library copy and probably enjoyed it more the second time. Donofrio tells an inspiring, no-regrets story. It would be great if she did a follow up.

Summary: This book is funny, honest and inspiring.
Review: I ran into this book in a public library years ago. It is easy to read and made me laugh out loud several times. Great book. A "bad girl" gets pregnant in high school and has to raise a kid herself. She feels slightly bitter at first but for the most part decides to take her own path and raise her son her way, ultimately looking at the experience as more of a blessing than a curse. I read it more than once and have recommended it to many female friends.

Review: I thought this book was interesting, but I wish it would have had more specific dates.

Summary: An excellent memoir.
Review: I can't even begin to start about how much I adore this book, but I guess should begin with how I first found about it.

Well when it comes to films with Drew Barrymore I've always been a big fan, so of course I had to see "Riding in Cars with Boys," and immediately it became on of my favorite movies of all time. And suddenly I had a great appreciation of the name 'Beverly,' for some reason.

So when I found out that the movie was based on a memoir by the REAL Beverly Ann Donofrio-- I was very excited to read it.

And it blew me away.
Mind you I was about twelve when I read it, and the movie was only PG-13, and in many ways the book and film were different. But I believe that the early exposure to it, with how it talks of drugs, sex, teenage rebellion, and teenage pregnancy, was a great thing.

Though in the movie it made it seem as if Bev was the underdog, and you couldn't help but feel sorry for her, and think her so strong for going through all of that. Yet in the book it delivers a much more real feel to it, it showed how bitter and selfish Beverly really was. Then you sort of stop feeling sorry for her, but for the people around her, especially her son Jason.

Still ... despite Beverly's ways, as the book evolves and she finally starts growing up, you begin to feel for her character again. Except you don't feel pity, but you feel a respect for her, for being able to come through all of what shes been through. For finally growing up. Taking care of things. For stopping her whining, and making everything about her.

Well at least I felt all of that. Though I think my liking of the name 'Beverly,' will probably be the cause of the movie and not the book.

Review: This book is a good read. Sometimes it was hard to take it all in however, it was definitely a laugh out loud book. It was a great story about teenage parenthood and independence. I enjoyed most of the book but it wasn't really one of those you just can't seem to put down. It was more like one that you could pick up and put down at anytime and for that reason it didn't hold my attention all the way through. I would recommend this book to people who enjoy reading memoirs and like to hear about success and failure. The story is about this teenager who raises a son and the struggles and responsibilities that go along with it. It's a very funny book that will keep you laughing. However it is also a sad book and rather depressing at some points. It basically has mood swings I suppose you could call them. It's a book that you'll either love or not love. I think that anyone who reads this will learn a lot. It teaches morals and lessons of life. Its nice having this book teach you them rather than having to experience them yourself.
This book was definitely a true story. It made you double check and think about your decisions. When she found out that she was pregnant she took action, told her parents and dealt with it. Also it gave you a look at a teenage "bad girl". She was always ticked at her dad and usually rebelled. These parts of the book definitely kept me interested.
Over all I'd have to say read this book and you will learn a lot. Also keep I'm mind that it's true. If you want a look at how life is on Bev's side of the street and how she copes this book is for you.
