Rating: Summary: I was hoping for better! Review: I hate to say this but the movie was much better. I do give credit to Beverly Donofrio, bacause this was an autobiography, and she really succedded in her life. But as a book, it could have been written better. THere are some parts that aren't like the movie at all, and the seeing the movie, made me wanna buy this in the first place. But it was a good book, that I still would recommend.
Rating: Summary: Awesome! a must read for anyone who's ever struggled Review: This book gives you chills as to the way Beverly potrays her hard ships of a single teen mother. when it wasnt "ok" to be a teen mother.
Rating: Summary: An Extremely Honest Book Review: As I read this book, there were times when I laughed, cringed, and thought "how could she do that and get away with it?" It's a well-written book by a woman who worked really hard to better herself and get to where she has. I liked it a lot, as I have a 7-year-old son and could relate to at least some of the things in the book. But I had my son when I was 34, so I have a different perspective than a 17-year-old. For such a relatively small book (204 pages), it was really in-depth and covered a lot. I must admit I saw the movie before reading the book, and the movie was good, but didn't cover even half of what the book did. I am from Connecticut as well, and was also interested in that aspect of the story. All in all, a good read.
Rating: Summary: What a great novel Review: Being a 14 year old young women in 8th grade, this was not my first novel. I would not only reccomend this book but The Weight Of Water, The Last Time They Met, and The Red Badge Of Courtage. Out of all this was probably one of the best novels I have ever read. It has the realistic side of life.I loved how Beverly Donofrio came right out and spoke how she felt and how her life was with the heroin, the drinking, the clubing and the marijuana. Having a baby at age 17 was probably one of the hardest things a teenager in the 60's could go through. She was basically a hood even at the age of 14. Her marriage failing with a husband that couldn't get a job, lied to her, was a jerk, drunk, and did lots of heroin, stuck with her son Jason. With Raymond, the other divorced parent, went odd to fight in the vietnam. Beverly was left with Jason to raise. Jason probably never going to see his father again. Near the end of Beverly pulls through the ups and downs of life, with more than enough men to make her happy. She had the good times with her friends and playing in the pool with her son. Riding In Cars With Boys maintains interest all the way through with no lulls. I could stay with the book and not get bored with the characters. There was always something going on to interest me.
Rating: Summary: A quick, but thoughtful read Review: Recently, I read Riding in Cars With Boys, by Beverly Donofrio. I am 14 years old, and have not read many novels. I am starting my high school applications and have thought a lot about the environment that each high school will provide. Many of the situatiosn Beverly encountered could very well happen at the high school I choose. Beverly Donofrio is a wild teenager who goes around partying, drinking, and getting herself into trouble. At age 17 she becomes pregnant and gets married to the father of her child. They move in together and start a life for themselves. Married life isnt all its cracked up to be. After her marriage fails at age 19, she is on her own. She's unemployed, with a son and slowly running out of money. She gets into Marijuana and Heroine and involved with the wrong crowd. Her dad is a detective and has her arrested. It helps her realize that she has to turn over a new leaf. Although the story doesnt sound great because it's about a teenager getting pregnant and doing drugs, it teaches you a lot. The story is true, and about the author. She doesn't hold back and sugarcoat things, she tells you straight out what happens. I would recomend this book to anyone who wanted an edgy, risqué book about a woman with a hard life trying to overcome her problems. Her trials and tribulations show a carefree woman who doesn't think before she acts. She soon realizes she can't continue living like this.

Rating: Summary: A must read for everyone! Review: I didn't know what to expect going into this book but once I started I couldn't put it down. I was astonished at Bev's behavior and they way she treated her son as well as herself. There were even many moments when I wanted to reach into the book and shake her silly. In the end I applauded her for who she became and what she overcame. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who has a teenager that thinks they know it all and there are very little consequences to having sex, doing drugs and thinking school is unimportant. I know my children will be reading this book on day w/my encouragement.
Rating: Summary: I take my hat off to Beverly Donofrio Review: I ordered this book because I wanted to see what all the fuss was about--and believe me, I wasn't disappointed. The author let it all hang out. This gutsy, colorful confessional (a twelve-round, bare-knuckle fight with punches flying left and right) might be a fast read for some, but it's very well-written, and I for one couldn't put it down. I'm looking forward to more novels by this talented lady.
Rating: Summary: A Life Ruined or Enriched... Review: Beverly Donofrio has written a touching memoir of her life as a teen parent. She shares her struggles, feelings, and hopes for the future. Riding in Cars With Boys, is a candid look at parenting through a teens eye. Donofrio does not have a 'typical' relationship with her son, Jason. Beverly, a mother before her time, was by most accounts, wild, reckless and a haphazard parent. In her true essence, Beverly did everything in excess: drugs, alcohol, sex, and rebellion! Motherhood was a curse for Beverly; she could barely look after herself, let alone a child. Jason was often dirty, neglected, and left to his own devices. However, an important question must be raised; how did Beverly and Jason survive? Amidst the chaos and confusion there was a great bond forged between Jason and Beverly. A traditional parent-child relationship...no, a relationship with love...yes. Riding in Cars With Boys takes the reader on Donofrio's path through motherhood and discovering that her life was not ruined, rather enriched.
Rating: Summary: honestly written, would appeal to teens Review: It is hard to like the author/main character of this book. But I have to admire her honesty in not honey coating her life. I didn't really care for the book, but I'm glad I read it, as it kept me from going to the movie. The trailers for this move show a feel good, chick flick, and that is not what the book portrays. I am tired of being dupped by Hollywood. Read it just for that reason.
