Rating: Summary: Excellent resource manual! Review: After working for Ed and Lorraine for many years, I still consider "The Demonologist" one of my all time favorite books. Not only does it tell true-to-life stories, I consider it the perfect handbook / reference manual for almost everything supernatural and preternatural
Rating: Summary: This book is the most frightening book you will ever read. Review: As a youth, the desire to either prove or disprove any popularly held belief was overwhelming for me. Then I read The Demonologist. Sometimes it is better not to prove or disprove. You get more sleep.
Rating: Summary: Very interesting reading, however antiquated Review: Author Gerald Brittle, provides an intriguing account of some of the Warren's most diabolical cases. His voice is clear both in first hand description, and in relaying the Warren's accounts. I did find however myself becoming detached from the stories due to their distance in time of occurence. Brittle's readers would enjoy reading an updated version, detailing the Warren's most recent cases. Aside from the spance in time, I found myself listening more closley to "bumps in the night", and though I did not want to put the book down, a "spooky" feeling took the better of me. An overall interesting read.
Rating: Summary: Buy this book! Review: Horrifying epics galore! Besides Malachi Martin's "Hostage to the Devil", this book contains the scariest real life stories that you'll ever read. Contains the accounts of a rare and truly heroic couple of their manifestations of the demonic on this earthly place. You will never look at the supernatural the same way you did, ever again! You would not want to take your chances to read this book at night. I once did so, after midnight, while lying on my bed. By the time I finished 3 chapters, I thought that my chair "shifted" some distance away in my room, and thought I heard birds chirping loudly and horses galloping outside my window! I lived in an urban area and there are no horses around my area. Moreover, it was winter, and I've never heard birds so active during winter! Having experienced supernatural forces first hand when I was a child, and have seen some things described in this book, I can personally attest to the truth of the Warrens' advice. Great book, great couple, great advice on not meddling with forces you don't know. ... Happy reading! ...
Rating: Summary: The Truth is in this book. Review: I actually had an opportunity to attend a lecture given by the Warrens. This book is nothing compared to that, but it will give you an insight into the phenomenal peril that they face everyday. The Demonologists tells us of the early beginnings of the Warrens and of waht they have gone through in their daily lives to try and make this a safer world to live in. Ed Warren is one of the only non-clergy demonoligists in the world and is also one of the most respected. Basically this book tells us that even though society tells us that this type of thing would never happen, or doesn't exist, it really does and it is going on right now. This is one of the best books that I have ever read on the realm of parapsychology and also one of the most informitive. A definite must read in our "wicked" society.
Rating: Summary: Reality Check Review: I am a paranormal investigator and bought this book last year after experincing my first case of possession and known diabolical activity. It easy to say we just interested in ghosts but we do not choose what we come into contact with. There are members of the ghost hunting community that will tell you demons are mythical such as IGHS and try to convience you the biblical references are just a bunch of B.S but dispit there efforts to have you believe they are the foremost authority with just over twenties years combined experince in ghost research, this book is by a couple who can say they have over a century of combined experinced and they have researched many cases world wide with the documentation to prove it.
This book is a must read for anyone interested in paranormal research of spirit entities or for those interested in becoming Clergy, entering the deliverance field or even thinking of playing around with the occult.
While the Warrens are catholic and speak in terms related to those of the catholic denomination, the information in this book applies to all denominations. They provide a clear explanation of the various spirit types breaking down ghost and demons as seperate entities. Each has it's own catagory of phenomenia and most often demonic spirits are brought in by invitation. my philosephy is if it was good enough for Jesus to believe then it is good enough for me. Anyone questioning the exsistance of demons or any other experince should read the bible at least once, there is plenty to say in fact I can't imagine why many paranormal buffs do not or have not read the bible since it is full for such stories related to our interest in the supernatural.
For those believing every word such groups like IGHS tells them, you might start to notice the contridictions of Dave & Sharon who are the IGHS. The Warrens were around long before IGHS was even out chasing ghosts and IGHS did not coin the term orb either since it appears in the orginal publication back in the eighties.
Ed Warren says "knowledge is power" and he is so right. I wish I read this before getting involved in ghost research. The case of possession I ran into sent me straight back to church where I had stopped going over the years. I gave my life back to Christ, actually read the bible from front to back, and was baptized with in just a few months are that possession case. I will not be falling down again. When something like this is experinced, it changes you. There is no more doubt what can happen and if you thought chasing ghosts was just a fun activity, think again. It's russian Roulette with consequences and while the Warrens don't try and discourage this practice, it is best to know what your up against and what to do when you do run into this activity. It is a must have, must read, and most important investment you'll ever make. It not enjoyable reading because of the content but it is surely the most educational text ever written.
Rating: Summary: Not a ghost book! Review: I bought this book years ago when it first came out in the 80s off the bargain shelf of Walden's. I was just expecting the same old ghost stories as from other books which I had read, but this one is different and made the most lasting impression on me. For one thing, it's not really a ghost book at all like I had anticipated at the time I bought it, but a book about sly, evil and invisible UNearthly beings which wish us simple earthly beings harm. Ghosts are at least from our own earthly existence going about their own business (usually), but devils & demons (fallen angels) are vastly different? I had never had an education of such spiritual matters before, and none since. It was an eye-opening, educational read, and I started reading it the day I picked it up and finished it the next day. The Warrens must have incredible inner strength spiritually to do what they do, and I could never see myself doing this for one a minute (or less).
Rating: Summary: Life changing - A chilling revelation of what's out there Review: I first came across "the Demonologist" in a small bookshop in Northern Nigeria in the mid-eighties. It totally changed my life. I have since given it to all my friends and relatives to read. At this time of year (October) with Halloween around the corner, this book tells of how seemingly innocuous games and pranks involving chants and ouija boards, can and do turn into something much more sinister. I found the chapter on incubi particularly scary because a friend of mine had recently told me how he woke up in the night and couldn't breathe or move. I had dismissed the story until I read the book. And then things became clearer..... Everybody, especially parents, needs to read this spine-chilling book. If nothing else it will raise the awareness of what can happen to the uninformed. And remember, it's all true!
Rating: Summary: Scary because its true Review: I first read this book about ten years ago, and was always interested in the occult. This book is a jolt of reality because it is filled with documented cases of malevolent hauntings. What makes it especially frightening is the fact that Ed and Lorraine Warren are not particularly religous, and therefore, do not base their findings off of any superstition or cultural belief system. These events are factual and take place in our modern society. In its pure form, evil does not discriminate, and can find its way into anyone's life regardless of a person's upbringing, religious background, race, gender, and social status. Don't get involved with what you don't know about, and always think positively!
Rating: Summary: too afraid to sleep Review: I first read this book when I was about thirteen. I had taken it out at my local library. The first time I read it I couldn't sleep well or be alone for months. For those like myself who have experienced the supernatural this book will open your eyes to many things. I later went back to the library to take it out again, but the book was never returned. I found out later that the book had scared the wits out of a friend of mine and he burned it believing that it was the cause for weird happenings at his house, and he was a skeptic. Everytime the library got a new copy the book would be stolen, lost or disappeared. I got lucky and bought the book, but loaned it to a friend who has yet to return it.
