Summary: From Austria to America
Review: An unforgettable and uplifting memoir -- beautifully written in clear, concise prose. Agathe von Trapp has told the true story of "The Sound of Music." She compels the reader to feel a part of the von Trapp family, expresses the love she has for her parents, and appreciates the handiwork of God in the gift of music which remains bountiful to this day. A must read for anyone who has ever heard of "The Sound of Music."

Summary: Has it's moments both good and bad
Review: I enjoyed the details on the Von Trapp life and world before the Captain met Maria. Having read Maria's "The Story of the Trapp Family Singers", I was surprised to see that portions of this book read almost word for word like "Story" though.

I have heard from other sources that Maria was not a perfect mother and wife (and I think she admits as much in her later book "Maria") but I think that Agathe seemed to go out of her way to cast Maria as negatively as she could without outright slander.

Summary: Insightful and totally entertaining
Review: I love this book ! The flow from the beginning to the end is like a meandering creek gently leading us through the author's life. Descriptions and and reflections on the past make you feel as if you are part of the family and in the end make you wish you were . The Hollywood version of the Trapp story PALES in comparision to the real story.

Summary: Interesting, but lack of details
Review: I really enjoyed reading this book, the Trapp family's story is simply incredible and inspiring, but I can't help feeling a little annoyed. It seems like either Agathe wasn't always informed on the cause of many things that happened in her life or she just thought we wouldn't care knowing. But I think we do !

I suggest to everyone interested in reading this book to read "The Story of the Trapp Family Singers" by Maria Augusta Trapp, Agathe's second mother, in the first place, and then read Agathe's book, so to know what happened before and after the story Maria Augusta Trapp tells in her book.

It still is a good book, but so well writened in my point of view. I wish there were more details and that events were always told chronologically. Soetimes, Agathe tells an anecdote, sometime long ones !, and then comes back in time. On other occasions, she talks about something that would happen eventually, sometimes very interesting events which distracts us from the current event described.

Good, but could have been written in a better way. Like Maria Augusta'S book for an example !

Summary: an absorbing autobiography
Review: I was delighted with this well written autobiography by the oldest daughter of the von Trapp family of "Sound of Music" fame. She tells the story of her life before and after "The Sound of Music" became so popular. She also brings us up to date on all of her sisters and brothers. I loved her sketches that are in the book and the beautiful photographs. I am giving this book to all my friends. I would highly recommend this lovely book to other readers because it tells the true story of this famous family. Knowing what their life was really like was more exciting to me than any movie.

Summary: Highly Recommend
Review: I was drawn to this book initially because I loved "The Sound of Music" and was curious about the real story behind the film. I was surprised and eventually fascinated to discover the differences in the real story and the hollywood version. It was absorbing, well-told and both entertaining and informative. I highly recommend it.

Summary: Ver y Good
Review: It was definately interesting to read the von trapp's story from one of the children's point of views. It was very nice to learn more about Agathe and Georg von Trapp. The only reason I didn't like it was sometimes it seemd that she was a bit complainy towards Maria and "the Sound of Music." It seemed at times the book was written more to set the record strait than out of love. Overall the book was touching though just like her Mother's beautiful book "The Story of the Trapp Family Singers."

Summary: Highly readable
Review: OK, I have to confess I checked my local library first, but they didn't have it, so I got out my credit card.
I have read as much as possible about the von Trapp family from many sources but still gleaned much new information from this book.
I don't believe many people realize how old the children were before they finally quit after years of touring.
And I thought the best part was at the end when she told what happened to each of the children. They have lived diverse and meaningful lives and both Maria and the Captain would be proud of them.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: amateurish
Review: This book contains many details about the von Trapp familly - but is not really about Agathe's life. I'm sure it was meaningful for her to write this book, but it is filled with many little anecdotes which don't really connect into a coherent whole. It has very little of Agathe's personal perspective. I found it very hard to stay interested even though I am interested in the von Trapp family. Maria's book, "The Trapp Family Singers" is much better written. However if you want more details about the early life of the von Trapps this may be the only way to get it.
