Summary: Real-life drama, great idea, and one resourceful gal.
Review: Karyn is amazingly resilient to criticism (she surely got some mean comments from people who responded to her website) and she is of course brilliantly resourceful. I admire the idea from her roomie that was put into action to get herself out of debt. Wish I had thought of it first. :-) It's nice to see that she freed herself not only of frequent spending (boy, do I like dept. store cosmetics and salon visits too!), but she also freed herself from labels that are overpriced and as transparent in conspicuous consumption as Christina Aguilera's threads are in need of stitching. I can never understand the lure for some girls out there for buying Manolo's or Prada. Guess that's why I don't live in NYC. I like Karyn's writing style very much. Sophie Kinsella (though I love her books too) has nothing
on Karyn, honey. I look forward to her NEXT book as much as I enjoyed this one. She's found a new career! That girl has her head on straight, make no mistake about it.

Summary: EXCELLENT light-hearted read!
Review: I loved this book! I purchased this on a Saturday and immediately began reading it once I got home. I could not put it down! I read it before I went to bed, first thing when I got up, while in the bathroom, while watching TV...

Karyn addresses a huge issue -- DEBT -- specifically for the younger generation of 20-early 30 somethings. We get to college and there are hundreds of credit card offers. We don't even have full time jobs (other than school), and credit card companies are handing us money! Many of us have no idea how to handle money! Then we graduate, and we need things for work -- suits, shoes, purses -- all to look good and meet up to the standards that this society places on us. So, we charge away, not focusing on the money we will owe when the darn bill comes in the mail.

In the end, I think Karyn has learned her lesson, and KUDOS to her for surviving and conquering her debt by creating her Web site. I wish her the best!

Summary: Addictive as shopping - but without the guilt!
Review: I am not typically the person who runs out to buy what people call "chick lit." Normally I prefer literary fiction...But I loved Karyn's site last year and thought I'd give it read because the jacket was so cute and it was reasonably priced. I have to say, I'm so glad I did. It's a rare event to actually laugh out loud when reading a book - and I did with this one so many times. Curl up on your couch with a blanket, a latte and devour this book - you won't be sorry you did!

Summary: Save yourself from reading this book...
Review: Besides the fact that I abhor people not taking responsibility for their actions (creating a website to have other people pay your bills is not taking personal responsibility), I was interested in Karyn's story, so I bought the book (with real money, not funny money) and will be returning it today. I could not get past the bad writing after the first fifty pages. Life is too short and there are too many GOOD books to read. The writing was flat, annoying, and plain boring which in turn made Karyn flat, annoying, and plain boring. To get the gist of her story just go to the website. If you read her story on the internet instead of paying $13.95 for the book, you will have had your own "Daily Buck" experience.

Summary: swipe, sign, it was mine!
Review: Karyn is the unabashed proprietress of www.savekaryn.com, a website that encourages people to give her money to pay off the over $20,000 credit debt that she amassed during her fisrt few years of living in New York. She earns a great salary as a TV producer but unfortunately spends way too much of it. The irony is that Karyn only had an American Express card, a charge card that requires you to pay off the balance in full each month, but, unfortunately for her, she finds a way around that.

Karyn blames no one but herself for her mess, and she encourages people to donate to charity before her. She lets them know that they will not get anything for their dollar except perhaps a warm fuzzy feeling for having helped her. That's it!

The simplicity of it all is also its beauty. Without soliciting a single interview, Karyn makes news around the world, gets offered a movie deal and pays off all that debt.

While I personally would not give her a dollar at her website, I would (and did) pay the price of this book in exchange for this entertaining and at times downright scary true story of how one regular woman who put too much emphasis on having the fabulous hair, wardrobe and social life in Manhattan ended up an unemployed broke Brooklynite with rodents in her walls, and then took a wild risk to fix her situation.

For whatever you may think of Karyn's solution to her debt, the fact remains that she will make you examine your own approach to debt and what you would do in this all-too-common scenario of amassing consumer debt in today's shaky economy.

Summary: A Wonderful Book!
Review: I bought this book after keeping up with the website. I could not put it down. Her story is interesting and touching. She really hit bottom, and had the strength and courage to move on.

Summary: Worth every penny
Review: This book is fantastic. I have never read such a funny, witty book. It is worth every penny I paid for it. I have had countless laughs and hours of reading enjoyment. Definately a book to read for fun and pleasure. I hope to see more books from Karyn, in the meantime I do definately enjoy her website. Keep up the great writing, Karyn!

Summary: ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!
Review: This book is so freaking funny that I almost peed my pants ten million times! If you are a "Confessions of a Shopaholic" or "Bridget Jones's Diary" fan, then you will ADORE this book. It's honest, funny, heart-warming, and an all-around great read. And to the people who dislike her for what she did, I guarantee that this book will change your mind. MUST READ, MUST READ, MUST READ. It should be a best-seller.

Summary: $13.95 Well-Spent!
Review: I saw Karyn at the local Border's yesterday and had to read the book. It's turned out to be just like she was in person: funny, sweet, honest, self-reflective, and totally engaging (even if she does tend to say "anywho" a little too often.) BUY IT, YOU'LL LOVE IT! Bring your lunch for a few days and you've paid for it. I only wish it was longer. Note to Karyn's editor: You should have let Karyn keep more of her original manuscript. When and how did her furniture from Chicago get to NY? Karyn: Congratulations, thank you, and good luck with the screenplay and novel can't wait to read more! LJB

Summary: This book is fantastic!
Review: This book is a story of something that happens to a lot of people and someone else's courage to do the thing that everyone else already thought of. Karyn's website is up under the same address and you can also visit her original site to see how it all began. Please read it!
