Summary: Encouraging and Inspiring -
Review: Reading through these reviews I see many who have found hope and inspiration in the pages of this book. Then there are other reviews "BEWARE" with all kinds of scripture reference to try and prove thier point. So called educated people waving their degrees as banners of "real" authority trying to convince you that what you are reading is wrong.

Please, read this book and decide for yourself. Spirituality is personal and can't be decided by anyone but you. The only thing to "BEWARE" of are those critics who suggest that this is evil. SO WHAT to those critics who say that this man's story is too polished to be believable. I read this book as a teenager and now years later I am still encouraged by how I felt the first time I read it and couldn't put it down. It's a book that I will read again and again!!!

Read this book and decide for yourself. I believe that you will find that its message is one of love and inspiration.

Summary: Truth Has Many Facets
Review: Return from Tomorrow is an excellent account of one man's near-death experience. Anyone with even a passing knowledge of metaphysics will appreciate the spiritual truth contained in Ritchie's story. Another review in this section by a man who identifies himself as George Ritchie's nephew demonstrates again that a little knowledge is still ignorance. The reviewer's knowledge is provided by the elitist blinders demanded by his denominational orientation, thus his point of view is narrow and arrogant. Above all, Ritchie's short account of his experiences is a wonderfully inspiring story for readers who--even if unfamiliar with the mystical aspects of existence--are open-minded and receptive to a deeper and more meaningful spirituality than provided by self-serving "Christian" denominations and televangelists.

Summary: It will grab and hold your attention long after you finish.
Review: There are numerous fascinatingly wonderful events that George Ritchie shares with us. His experiences touched my heart in countless ways, however, the most emotionally moving for me is the importance of the lesson I learned of not buying into, or perpetuating, the hate in this world. In a society of children using guns in school, pipe bombs exploding in restaurants and poison gasses disbursed in subways, it is all important that we learn this lesson now. For as George explains, we carry our desirable or undesirable beliefs with us, even after we leave our physical state.

Summary: Christians BEWARE!
Review: This book asserts that Jesus appeared to George, while dead, and taught him that disembodied human spirits are roaming the earth tampering with other people's lives when and where they can. The basic notion is that demons are human ghosts.

Clearly this is an occult idea, and readers should regard such a conclusion as a glaring red-flag. Consider how much energy Satan has extended to promote the doctrine of "ghosts" being disembodied human spirits through horror movies, books, etc. As Christians who have been conscripted into a spiritual war, let us not be found resonating to and spreading ideas that the enemy loves and has a keen interest in. Whose side are we on, anyway? (John 8:44, Col 2:4, 2Cor 11:14, Rom 16:17-18, 2Cor 10:3-5)

In style, the book is disingenuous. To be sure, this was a well-written book. A little too well, in fact. Is such polish and psychological smoothness and manipulative technique the hallmark of truth, or error? If a message is true, does it need to couched in the manner of refined propaganda? What kind of content is it that requires such an environment?

Rather than tell us his story in an honest, forthright manner, George give us instead a plot-line didactic of a "session" with "Fred" (patients names have been changed) who acts as a sort of straw-man opponent. Fred is sort of an Ed McMahon, the all-too-leading-question pseudo-antagonist. The subterfuge in employing this sort of artificial technique is to encourage credulity, is it not? For George is not speaking to us, after all, but to hapless Fred who is an unbeliever of a VERY needy sort, and thus we are hoping for Fred to "see the light" [pun intended]. By such contrivance we are emotionally set up to pull for George to BE right, whether he really is or not, lest poor old Fred perish! Is this a presentation of the truth, or emotional blackmail? Do you find this sort of gimmick honest? Was not this book "written" and "designed" this way deliberately? Why? The machination continues as Fred brings up his pathetic retorts right on cue to give George a chance to "explain" in mock response, creating the illusion of banter and testing of spirits.

This book is not playing fair, being so overly smooth, slick, and manipulative. It is hard to say how much of the artifice inherent to the construction of this book should be blamed on George or on Elizabeth, who helped "find the words". But in any case, the manner of writing screams DECEPTION. There is more wrong with this book, but a "word to the wise will suffice."

Summary: Superb.
Review: This book is concise, to the point, and well written. Most importantly, for me it has been inspirational. Although I finished reading it two weeks ago, I think of Ritchie's experience daily .

While we are all entitled to our own opinions, how one can say that Ritchie's message may be inherently evil is well beyond me. Ritchie not only explains that our ultimate goal in (this) life is to love our fellow humans, but clearly demonstrates how relaying this message has spiritually helped both himself and most importantly, those who have listened to him . It was for this reason that he decided to make public such an intimate experience.

One must also remember that this religious experience, this message of love, is being relayed by a medical professional, (first an M.D, then a psychiatrist). A number of times in his life, Ritchie put at risk not only his reputation, but his sound mind. Not everyone wishes to believe in the possibility (or reality) of outer-body experiences. What was most important for him, he reiterates, was relaying the experience for the benefit of others.

I include myself in those benefitted and must thank him for taking the time to put in words an experience which went far beyond the limit of those words used to describe it .

Summary: Buy It
Review: This book is excellent. I HIGHLY recommend it. It's very touching, and strengthened my faith. Great book.

Summary: An astonishing true life story
Review: This book relates a very fascinating sequence of events, and is obviously not contrived in any way except the necessary dulling to fit the experience into normal language. It's still brilliant!

I'd recommend it to anyone who has any interest in anything at all, and defy them to say how anyone could concoct such a story if it is not true. I've read phoney "spiritual stories" such as Lobsang Rampa, but this one was too fantastic to be imagined. That sincerity cannot be manufactured.

It's understandable that someone who had this experience would not be immediately keen to publish the "story", particularly in an intolerant society whose members think that their version of Christianity is the only authentic view. Were George Ritchie a Buddhist, he would have interpreted his experience only slightly differently, but he would not have encountered such self-righteous condemnation. "Christians" would have ignored it altogether. I am very happy that many have read it.

Summary: Unforgetable! One of my favorite books!
Review: This book relates the author's own death and visit to the world beyond. The scenes he observed and his encounter with a heavanly being are most enlightening and spiritually touching. I have purchased several copies of this book to read again, but end up giving them a way before I do.

Summary: It changed my life...compelling and awe-inspiring
Review: This book will change many lives for the better. I can never see things the same after reading it. As one reviewer said, such sincerity can't be made up and I believe that Ritchie experienced everything just as he described it. I would recommend it to all atheists or agnostics...after reading I doubt that they would remain so.
