Summary: Captivating, Deepening, Challenging...
Review: I have only read three chapters of this book so far. I immediately realized that I have to start all over and read SLOWLY and THINK as I read. I'm planning a spiritual retreat of sorts, and I'm going to focus on one chapter each evening. In one night of hurried reading (just because I was so excited to have this book in my hands), I was challenged in so many ways. I cannot wait to dive in. I want to see what God was teaching Rich, because God was working so mightily through Him. This book will mean a lot to Christians who have struggles and pain that they need to deal with. It has already made me feel better about who I am and about how loving God is.

Summary: The Love of Jesus Putting on Flesh and Bone
Review: I honestly don't know where to begin this review. An arorow pointing to heaven is a wonderful book that I would recommend to anyone. Smith manages to write a book that inspires and teaches us all. My only wish is that it would have been longer. The quotes from Rich throughout the book greatly enhance the reading. If you will read this book you must be willing to drop all preconceptions you may have before starting. It will pierce you down to the soul. The book was wonderful for me as a devotional, in fact it served as a jumping off point for my research in to the life of Rich Mullins. If anyone feels after reading this book that they wish to know more about Rich and his life they should go to www.kidbrothers.net This sight has all of Rich's song lyrics, concert transcripts, radio interviews, release magazine articles written by Rich, basically anything anyone would want.

A must have!

Summary: Okay....
Review: I liked the book, but I think it tried to do too much. I would have rather read a devotional (and I think JB Smith is good at those)OR a biography. I do think the book is,however, a great value since it comes with a CD - and I think for those that aren't acquainted with the man and his music to a great degree, this book would be very good.

Summary: Paperback features some suprises
Review: I loved the first edition of this book (the hardcover with the CD). But I love the paperback even more. The new packaging really feels right for Rich's story (warm tone to the color, rough page edges, beautiful picture of Rich on the back). And the new material- previously unpublished writings from Rich himself- is worth the price of the book alone. They are Rich's teaching on the Beattitudes and a chilling poem he wrote two days before he died. This is a must have for Rich fans. Don't miss this chance to hear from Rich once more!!!

Summary: A very inspirational book
Review: I never knew who Rich Mullins was. His name would always pop-up in conversations about contemporary Christian music. I know who he is now. This book tells the story of a man who experienced Jesus completely. Rich Mullins could have been "huge" in the music industry, but he sought to please God, but he still touched millions of lives. This book has taught me much about the intimacy of a relationship with God. The story, song lyrics, and photos in this book are inspirational.

Summary: Incredible, stirring, thought provoking
Review: I picked this book up, to learn more about the life of Rich Mullins. What I learned, was more about my own life. Anyone who has listened to Rich Mullins music knows that he had a heart for the God that he so often wrote of. His music has always struck a chord within me. This book provides glimpses into the life of a very remarkable sensitive man. Many people seemed disappointed about not getting more biographical information from this book, but after reading some of Rich's journal entries & quotations I agree with the author; that Rich would not have appreciated a book written about the facts of his life. Rich did not want people to look to him, or to his music for spiritual inspiration, but rather to his God. I found myself pausing over and over again throughout the book, to simply absorb the truths that Rich revealed in his observations about life. This is powerful reading that will I will continue to study for some time.

Summary: A Bouquet of Mallowcups for Jimmy
Review: I purchased this book with something like fear, because I've been an R.M. fan forever--I practically invented him--and I didn't want some yutz biographer to screw it up. This book is something of a miracle. It's the bio/story of Rich Mullins that hollered to be written, and thank God James Smith wasn't deaf.

To all R.M. fans...don't be afraid. This book is the one.

Summary: This is more than a biography of Rich Mullins!
Review: I saw Rich Mullins in Concert a few years before his death. I was in awe of his musical ability, but what I remember is not how well he played, or even what he said, with the exception of telling how he came up with the words for LET MERCY LEAD. What I remember about that concert was that he was standing about 50 feet in front of me at the left side of the stage, without wearing shoes, playing his hammer dulcimer. I was an ardent fan of Rich before his death, and since then, of course, I've become a greater fan. But, without Jesus in his life (or my life, for that matter), I would never have heard of or cared about a guy named Rich Mullins. An Arrow Pointing to Heaven is a great book for people who are fans of Rich Mullins. However, it is an even greater book for people who are struggling with sin and temptation, troubles in their lives like parents getting divorced, death, or wrong choices, or something as simple as someone wanting to know more about their direction in life. Small group leaders and especially youth leaders will love this book because it is full of group discussion ideas (refer to the GROWING DEEPER section near the back of the book). From reading this book I have learned a lot more about Rich than I would know if he were still alive, but there is much more to this book than that. I don't feel sorry for Rich anymore because of his untimely death. Take a few hours away from your busy calendar and prepare to be challenged.

Summary: What angels would tell...
Review: I wasn't going to review this book until I read the comments about Catholicism. Many things about Rich's life were left out. Many of the gory details. I think that James Bryan Smith did an excellent job of revealing enough without exposing the dirt. As a Protestant Franciscan myself and having made the transition between the Protestant and Catholic faith, I think the important thing about Rich's life(which this bio seeks reverently to avoid) is to not have to force Rich to have chosen sides. Rather this book and Rich's life sought to be a healing of the two factions of the faith as in Christ Jesus there is no Catholic or Protestant - we are all ONE. He wasn't much of a joiner and his inner journey with his Creator is as personal as mine or yours but the beauty of his legacy is that against the winds of resistance he carved out a somewhat ragged yet straight and enduring path for the weak, the addicted, the downtrodden, the poor, the oppressed, etc and that he in his way became the epitomized living example of Isaiah 40's "a voice crying in the wilderness...prepare ye the way....". If there was ever a necessary voice for the REAL Gospel of Jesus Christ in this hour then it was the life of Rich Mullins who responded to the call and probably the most important thing that can be said of any of us is that we loved.Rich's death bore and is still bearing the seeds he sowed in life and fitting that his fame would come after he was gone. I recommend this book to any reader, Christian or otherwise. How tiring it is to read about people who have one moral facet polished so brilliantly that you can never live up to them if you lived a million years. How refreshing to see a real Christian's life revealed from the inside out and that like Noah's sons - Rich's sins were covered by the blanket of Grace. That my friends IS THE Gospel or the GOOD NEWS that we wish to share.

Summary: Outstanding
Review: I would recommend this book to anyone, even if you've never heard of Rich Mullins.

It will help you become closer to God and see what He has for you.

If I was going to a tropical island and could only take two books with me, I'd take my Bible and this book!!
