Summary: The story of a GROUP with class told by a MAN with class!
Review: Otis Williams is a class act as author of this book. I don't care what anyone says, the Temptations were men of style, class, and talent. At least their lyrics are appropriate descriptions of women's beauty and brains ('You've got a smile so bright, you know you could've been a candle,...'), which is much better than the degrading things women are called in today's songs. These men could sing circles around today's R&B groups.
Williams is honest about the faults of his fellow Temptations (including himself), yet touchingly respectful of their legacy. I admire his work ethic, loyalty to the group, and refusal to continue taking garbage from Berry Gordy and demanding respect for the group. The Temptations have survived as a group mainly because of his and the late Melvin Franklin's tenacity and perseverance. As one of their famous songs says, may they 'keep on walking, and don't look back'!

Summary: Excellent story!
Review: This paints a picture of the Temptations from the eyes of Otis Williams, group leader and sole survivor of the original Temptations. He was very candid for this book, holding back nothing and unapologetically telling it like it is. This group had its share of ups and downs, but throught it all, he still gave props to "his brothers". An excellent read and the pictures are great as well!

Summary: The movie is great, but READ THE BOOK!
Review: Folks, the miniseries was terrific entertainment (I highly recommend it!), but don't think for a minute that it is an accurate reflection of Otis's book. The miniseries took a LOT of artistic license with Otis's book.

Even with all the inaccuracies, I still love the miniseries. Get it on DVD. But also read the book to get a real feel for what they went through.

(For instance, the scene at the end where Otis and Blue visit Momma Rose's for dinner and Blue goes to the kitchen to get the short ribs, never to return alive is COMPLETELY CONTRIVED. Never happened.)

Summary: A must read for all Motown fans!!
Review: Otis Williams has written a "good" book rather than a "nice" book as Berry Gordy advised him to do. The more I read, the more I wanted to know about all of the guys, after reading this book I feel as if I know them all. I cried when Melvin died, and Eddie too. Otis tells the story in a way that only someone with real love for the music, the fans and the other tempts could have. Very poignant and insightful, this book will bring smiles and tears, as well as sharing with the reader intimate details of juicy gossip about what goes on back stage. A real treat, you will not be dissappointed!! Way to go Otis!

Summary: Excellent Read
Review: I am a huge fan of The Temptations and I think they are the best Male group ever. I searched for this book for the longest and was so happy that it was back in publication....I could not put this book down; as busy as I am I read the book in a few day. I loved the made for TV movie however the movie deviated from the book greatly....reading the book helped me to see that they were very tight knit.

Summary: A Wonderful Book!
Review: Once I saw the movie, I wanted to know more about David, Eddie, Paul, Otis and Melvin, so I decided to get this book so I could learn more about one of the most incredible, talented, groudbreaking not to mention classiest groups of all time. This book has a lot of info that isn't in the movie, so it was wonderful to read an account of how things really went down, especially at Motown in the early days. I finished this book in less than a week, I just couldn't put it down. This book has definitely made me a Temptations fan for life. I admire all of them and what they went through, and I especially commend Otis Williams for writing a book that discussed the good times and the bad, with class and grace. I am saddened by the fact that Eddie, David, Melvin and Paul (my favorite) aren't with us today, but their places in music history will always be remembered. A wonderful book!

Summary: Inside The Emporers Of Soul
Review: A great book about the most talented of the Motown groups and gives a lot of interesting background information. The group has gone through a lot of trials and changes over the years and Otis paints a loving portrait of the Temptations as his extended family. Most highly recommended, especially with a Tempts CD playing in the background.

Summary: loving them all
Review: I just loved the movie. I bought the VHS and the cassettes of the early hits to listen to all the time. I really enjoyed how Otis stressed to them all that they were all for the group. I would really like to know more about each of the other members. I have been trying to find info through other links but have been unsuccessful. I would like to know if they married and had children. The more info the better to understand the members.

Summary: Great, Great Book!!
Review: I really enjoyed this book. The book was somewhat different from the mini-series and this was one of the main reason's I had to get a whole of the book. Otis Williams did a fantastic job at
telling his story. This is a great read!! I was born in the sixties and I have always been interested in the way things were back then. The Temptations will "forever" be a part of my life.
