Rating: Summary: Must Read! Review: I really don't want to be one of those reviewers who fill their reviews with exclamation points and the common phrase "the best book ever!!!" but I must say after reading this a year ago, its almost true.
While reading this book, I fell in love with our furry hero. Some of the things he did were so cute, I found myself laughing aloud in class. For example, in one chapter, Sterling has given Rascal a sugar lump and milk and Rascal is confused after the lump seems to have vanished. He doesn't understand that the sugar has dissolved inside the milk.
Sterling North has really created a chidlren's masterpeice. With an eloquent text and a touching conclusion, Rascal is sure to please any fan of animal stories.

Rating: Summary: kentons Review: A boy, a raccoon, and other pets can only cause trouble and adventure. A boy named Sterling who is approximately 12 years old, a 6 month old raccoon, and Sterling's dad are the main charators. Sterling best friend, that he found in the woods, is a raccoon. The raccoon started eating the neighbor's sweet corn so Sterling gets in trouble for not keeping the raccoon under lock and key. This book is about a boy that has alot of adentures. I recommend this book so you can see what your parents did at the age of 12 in the 1970's.
Rating: Summary: Rascal Review: A good plot, amusing characters, and comfortable reading, made this a good book. Scenes like Rascal helping Sterling win a pie eating contest is one example of the authors entertaining style. I totally recommend this book for anyone's enjoyment of reading. It involves the relationship of action and adventure.

They made this book into a great realistic color movie. His Father is a sucsessful business man. This book is good for people who like adventure, nature, mischief.
Rating: Summary: Great Read!!!! Review: Eleven-year-old Sterling North had always been an animal lover. A crow named Poe, skunks, woodchucks. You name it, and at some point in his lifetime, Sterling had it as a pet. Rascal the raccoon is just a baby when Sterling comes across him in the woods and decides to take him home to join his crusade of pets. However, unlike Sterling's other pets, the little raccoon loves nothing more than following Sterling in his every activity, and soon Rascal is accompanying Sterling on camping excursions, and daily fishing and swimming trips. Boy and raccoon are inseparable for a full year, until the springtime arrives, and everything changes.
As an avid animal lover, I knew that I had to have Sterling North's RASCAL, when I spotted it in the bookstore, and am I ever glad that I purchased it. RASCAL is one of those books that is extremely hard to put down, that pulls at your heartstrings and makes you laugh at the very same time. Filled with wonderful adventures involving Sterling and his loving raccoon, RASCAL is a winner that will put a smile on every reader's face.

Rating: Summary: This book is captivating for animal lovers of all ages! Review: I am 33 years old. I bought Rascal for my 6 year old daughter. But I became totally enchanted with this book. The story is funny and poignant. It is made all the more fascinating because it is the true story of the author's childhood in an era most of us know little about. Highly recommended
Rating: Summary: It is a book that children can reread over and over again! Review: I bought this book for my daughter who loves animals when she was in the third grade. She read it so many times that she has lost the cover and some of the pages. She is now in 8th grade and has put it on her christmas list. I am getting her the hard back so she can have it forever. The boy's life is one that she would love to live, she loves all animals and plans to become a vet one day. It is truely her favorite book! I recomend it to all children.
Rating: Summary: Rasal Review: I did not like this book. I had to read it for school. At first, it seemed interesting, but then it got really really boring. It really wasnt my intrest, and i did not like what was going on in the story. It was confusing, no matter how many times i read it. I really did not think it was written well.
Rating: Summary: A trip into my childhood Review: I first read Rascal when I was a young boy (I'm 43 now). I re-read it just a few months ago and once again I was taken back to my youth. I was raised in a small country town (pop 600) in the mid-west (Michigan) and this book always brings back those carefree days of wandering through the woods. When I read this book I am once again young and at home. I feel truely sorry for anyone not touched by this book. They must have missed something very precious in their life.
Rating: Summary: A classic American tale, and a wonderful animal story. Review: I first read the story of Rascal as a child, and was fascinated with the thought of a raccoon as a pet. The adventures of Sterling and his unusual pet were absolutely captivating, and that is all that I remembered of the book.I recently read this book again to my daughter, piece by piece, at bedtime. The tale of Rascal captured me again, but so much more became evident! As an adult, I am struck by the beauty of the land North describes, and fascinated by the historical and naturalistic detail in his narrative. North's language is natural and readable, though not overly simple. It is as though the reader sits at the foot of a rocking chair as an aged, eminent natural philosopher tells the story of his boyhood. The words flow over and around the reader, and refresh our sense of wonder at the beauty of our natural world.
