Summary: Kasey Hamner's story is touching and poignant!
Review: I read "Adoption Forum" (see my review for that book)before this one, but I wish that I read "Whose Child?" first. As a therapist I find Kasey's courage in writing her incredible story immensely courageous. I could not put this book down. Her ability to work through her issues and see that life is something to be celebrated despite the horrors of what happened to her is empowering. I will recommend this book to all of my adoption clients and fellow mental health professionals.

Summary: Overwhelmed by emotion
Review: I read this book because it was written by someone I knew. What I found was a world of buried emotions that I barely remembered. My sister put a baby up for adoption many years ago and I have sometimes wondered about this nephew of mine that I never got to know. Upon reading Kasey's wonderfully vivid, searingly honest account of her life, I found myself transported into the role of her aunt and relating on such a gut level that I found myself wanting to find that little boy who is now a man and tell him that he has an aunt he never got to know. It is rare indeed that written words evoke such emotions and when I find some that do, I am forever changed. Thanks, Kasey, for your gift to the world.

Summary: I Could not put this one down!
Review: I read this book in one afternoon. It is so easy to read and it defies you to put in down, so I didn't. Her story is both heartbreaking and wonderful. Her spirit shines through as she takes responsibility for her actions and places the blame for other's actions where it belongs. She is now a school psychologist and I wish she worked at my adoptive kid's school because I know she would have immense wisdom and hope to share. Thank you Kasey for sharing your incredible story with us. You are truly a miracle.

Summary: Read it in only 1 1/2 days!!!!!!!!!!!! Couldn't put it down!
Review: I read Whose Child? in only 1 ½ days! I couldn't put it down! It's amazing to me when I read a book about adoptees and how it seems like the author is talking directly to me. I plan to share this book with my friends who are also adopted."

Summary: great story
Review: I started reading this book while I was reading another and I couldn't put this one down. I put the other book down instead! It only took me a few days to read and when I wasn't able to read because of class or work all I could think about is when will I be back in my room to read! Every member of the adoption triad should read this one.

Summary: Powerful!
Review: Imagine, if you will, not knowing who gave birth to you. Then imagine growing up in a household where you felt like an alien and had a brother that sexually abused you and a mother that emotionally abused you. Then imagine finding your birth mother and father, establishing a relationship with them, and then having them reject you all over again.

It's hard to imagine, huh? But this is what happened to Kasey Hamner who wrote this beautiful, sad, and bold memoir about her life.

As a 35-year-old adoptee, currently 6 months into a reunion with my birthmother, I related on so many levels to Hamner's heartbreaking, and sometimes joyous, emotional experiences. While my childhood was different and my reunion experience has been different, I still share many of the fears, joys, highs and lows that she went through. I especially related to her constant fear of abandonment when it comes to men, family members as well as friends. I am also several years in recovery from drugs and alcohol and used them pretty much for the same reasons that she did...as a way to numb these fears and take me completely out of myself. I recommend this book to all members of the adoption triad (adoptees, birth parents, and adoptive parents). It's an emotionally powerful and insightful book which took a lot of courage to write. And her positive outlook and acceptance of "life on life's terms" is truly inspiring. I look forward to Hamner's next book (if it's not already out yet...I have to check). If I could give this book 6 stars, I would!

Summary: This book helped me very much, and i love the book.
Review: My name is Mandy, and i am a 15 year old in reunion with my real mom. This book that Kasey Hamner wrote was awesome. The words that i read on the page, it was like i could hear her saying them. I can relate to some of the things that she said about. the book, made me understand things that went on in other people's lives, and it made me feel a lot better about myself that i am not the only adoptee in this world that has those sort of feelings. Well i hope that many more adoptees feel the same about this book, i am reading it a second time. Thanks--Mandy

Summary: Whose Child?
Review: Once I started reading Whose Child?, I could not put the book down. I am an adoptee who has searched, found and reunited, like Kasey, only to find more obstacles to overcome. It helped me to know that I wasn't alone. From her childhood abuse and through her search for her birthparents, and a rocky reunion, she is a shining example of a true survivor. I commend Kasey for sharing her personal story as it gives much insight into the world of the closed adoption system and the damage that secrets and lies can do. To all members of the triad, and anyone who has been touched by adoption, this is a must read. Thanks Kasey!! P.S. I also recommend "Adoption Forum" by Kasey. Very insightful information on all positions of the triad members.

Summary: Thank you for your courage and honesty!
Review: Thank you for writing Whose Child?. It showed so beautifully your journey through life. You shared the idea that living your life is an ever evolving and changing pattern to have a happier life and good relationships. Your book illustrated how there is no happy ending in life, just awareness and a commitment to try to make positive changes in one's life. I think this book would be helpful for anyone in a position to help children.
