Summary: Five Stars for the what could have been the Five Star Gen.
Review: This is better than the movie. It is what the man thought on the inside. Carlos D' Estes Digs up lots of info. This is the kind of book historians should tip their cap to. I think all people should read this book so all know the life story of "Old Blood And Guts." The Realism of what Patton felt when World War two ended is not far fetched after reading this book. The only problem with this book is it's for history buffs, you have to take a couple of days to sit down and read it because it has 900 some odd pages.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Written for the history "buff"
Review: This book is basically a retelling of the story that many of us have read and heard over and over. Nothing really new is exposed, nor are any new insights into the man provided.

If one wishes to seriously understand Patton, all study begins and ends with "The Patton Papers."

Summary: Masterful
Review: D'Este does a wonderful job of not only defining GSP the flamboyant, genius general of WWII, but also of GSP the man. After reading the book, I actually felt I personally knew GSP and was there in every battle and situation he was in. Must reading for any miltary history buffs and especially those who want to know more about GSP.

Summary: A great general overview of Patton's life.
Review: I very much enjoyed this book. While I believe it was a great general overview of George S. Patton, Jr's life, I would have liked to have seen some more detail as to his wartime operations. As a big fan of the movie Patton, this book dispells some of the movie's mistakes which makes it an even more interesting read. The writing itself is concise and descrpitive and generally well done.

Summary: THE ESSENCE OF GEORGE S. PATTON REVEALED
Review: Most people classified as Baby-Boomer or later have obtained their entire knowledge of George Patton from the popular movie of 1970. What a shame! A shame that these people will live their lives not knowing the truth about a true American Hero. George Patton was not the loose cannon as indicated in the movie. He was not a part-time nor a 9 to 5 warrior, he was a life-time warrior. The family heritage of military heros weighed heavily on Patton's youth REQUIRING him to achieve greatness.

Carlo D'Este did a marvelous job revealing the frame of mind of this great man. Patton's dyslexia, his zeal for life gave this reader a newfound admiration for one of this century's key defender of democracy.

Needless to say, this is a MUST read.

Summary: A wonderfully detailed examination of an American Legend
Review: It's a long book, and each page has so much information and texture to it that it can be a slow read at times. But, it gives wonderful insight to Patton, and provides the reader with a series of lessons about both good and bad approaches to leadership.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent! Need I say more?
Review: A Patton fan for as long as I can remember, I have longed for a book as detailed and interesting as this book about Patton's life. I've read Patton's memoirs, seen the movie several times, read several other books and I must say that this tops them all! (Although I do like Patton's Memoirs quite a bit). As a huge Patton fan I can't recommend this book enough, a MUST READ!

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Great insight, time and time again.
Review: Overall, the book is well worth the read, but, it does tend to repeat itself. The first half of the book is dominated by dyslexia and low math scores, not to mention self doubts, expressed in letters home to family. While this is important in understanding the drive behind Patton, must we rehash the same info over and over. In many places the author leads us wonderfully into a situation, only to cut short on the tactics and antics of one of America's most colorful figures. Personal feelings and bias towards many of the other great American generals bleed onto page after page. While WWII was dominated by larger than life figures with huge egos, to much time was spent talking about the these rivalaries and not enough time about the antics and strategies used by America's greatest General. Although satisfied and not feeling my time lost in the reading, I was still left hungry for more knowledge of good ole "Blood and Guts".

Summary: a very captivating book once you get into it
Review: I bought this book with the intention of just skimming through certain parts of it as this is a large and detailed account of pattons whole life with over 800 pages. I started reading from the beginning and had to read the whole book. anyone interested in history would consider this an excellent read. The 1970 film was great as it won an oxcar, but this book is even better

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: ENJOYED THE BOOK - VERY READABLE AND INFORMATIVE
Review: VERY GOOD DETAILED COVERAGE OF GEORGE PATTON'S LIFE. MY SECOND COUSIN WAS FRIENDS WITH GEORGE PATTON'S SISTER NITA PATTON. ONLY THING MISSING WAS HIS ACTUAL BATTLE STRATEGY AGAINST GERMAN ARMY. PERSONAL LIFE COVERED VERY WELL.
