Summary: walking near ground zero
Review: reading this wonderful book not only reminded me of times past but of now and last year.
i live and work very close to the world trade center site and phillipe's memories and story entwined with my own to create a very powerful emotional experience.

his story is one that speaks not only of his walk in the clouds but OUR walk through life. his story captures both the beauty and the challenge of every life on earth.

read it folks, it is beautiful. (cool pictures as well).

Summary: Constant put-downs
Review: Reviewer RRiis is correct - this man may be an artist on the tightrope, but he has nasty attitude toward his audience. The egotism is one thing, but the constant put-downs of the general public, many of whom admire his work, really got on my nerves. The favorable reviewers must be masochists.

Summary: Highwire Artist Tells All.......
Review: This book captures the tension and excitement of an event that took the world by surprise. It made headlines all over the world..
In a time when Nixon was resigning, Petit brought smiles to all that imagined what he had done and how he did it. Filled with good photos and illustrations...Petit spells out the whole process of what went into the 6 months of planning and preparation that culminated in the incredible WTC walk. At times we sense a bit of his ego but it is tempered with charm and fearlessness of making a dream come true..
In this time of possibe war it is refreshing to read about someone who has dreams and makes them not only come true but also makes history.

Summary: Dreams Do Come True!
Review: This is a beautiful book that proves dreams do come true if you really want something bad enough and are willing to work hard enough no matter what the risk to reach that goal. It was Paris, 1968, when young 18-year-old street performer Philippe Petit saw a sketch of the proposed World Trade Center towers, and he was so awestruck that he drew a line between the two rooftops of the towers, and decided then and there that his ultimate goal was to one day walk on a high wire between the two towers. Over the next six years he perfected his craft. He did public performances atop Paris' Notre Dame in June, 1971, and he walked between the northern pylons of the world's largest steel arch bridge in Sydney harbor, as well as other high wire acts. One day in late summer 1974, Petit's dream came true. As thousands watched he made eights crossings between the towers, 110 stories above the ground, in less than an hour.

I think the most fascinating aspect about this story, was the lengths that Petit and his co-conspirators went to plan, train, and carry out this unauthorized feat. It's all here in vivid detail. And even if you didn't bother to read the text in this book, the photographs are amazing and breathtaking by themselves. This is a captivating memoir that captures the excitement, triumph, and joy of Petit's stunning achievement. Now that the towers are, sadly, gone, it's all the more important as a part of the towers history. I more than enjoyed this memoir, I was fascinated by it. It is certainly a positive and enlightening ray of hope for those who dream of the impossible!

Summary: Exceptional!
Review: Until now we didn't know that Philippe Petit's exceptional gifts extend well beyond the high wire. This book is the best sort of 'caper' account: although the reader knows the ending, the writing style and personality of the author are so engaging that it is completely engrossing. I don't know what reviewer RRiis has against Petit (it sounds personal to me...) but his/hers is the only review I've seen (among dozens published) that is negative. Petit is a gifted writer, and this book is a wonderful gift. DON'T MISS IT!

Summary: FORMIDABLE
Review: What a wonderful book. It's mesmerizing affect has you in the moment - on the tightrope itself or on the prowl preparing the walk. Philippe's poetry has extended over to the written word.

Summary: A moumental feat
Review: when philippe petit strung a wire and walked between the twin towers in 1974, it was the first time those mostrous buildings seemed human. his book is a loving recreation of that walk, but more than that, it lets us soar with him as he plans the unimaginable. petit's writing is intimate and funny, and is proably the only book about the WTC that doesn't use 9/11 as its starting point. Hooray for Petit, who did the impossible, and lived to tell about it with such grace and wit.

Summary: Back to gentler times
Review: Writing in English, Phillipe Petit brings alive his 1974 high wire walk between the twin towers of the late World Trade Center.Through a spell binding account and through meticulous details Mr. Petit tells us about his incredible high wire feat. Nuimerous photographs and gripping descriptions are sure to bring moisture to the palms of most readers! A quick read, this book makes the reader hunger for more and the wish that Mr. Petit would follow with additional books about his exploits at Notre Dame in Paris and his Sidney Harbor walks.
