Rating: Summary: Gut-busting fun! Review: I made the mistake of reading this book in bed at night, and woke my husband several times just from laughing so loud. This is truly a don't-drink-Coke-and-read-at-the-same-time type of book. The chapters are only 4-5 pages long--each is a column from the Arizona Republic telling the story of an event in Notaro's pathetically funny life--so it makes for very quick, light reading. I zipped through this book--the format is perfect for anyone who is looking for something quick to read while running errands, etc., since you can read it in quick chunks. This is one you'll pass off to all your friends and find yourself reading aloud to them whenever they're around just because it's so darned funny. Very, very highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: Just what we need! Review: Funny, irreverent, tongue firmly in cheek - get ready to laugh if you read this book - probably out loud. I marked a few of my favorite chapters - "How much it costs for a room of one's own" featuring Martha Stewart, a desk and an authorization and "More bread, please" involving many rolls and "On the road" where she tells of her knowledge (not) about her car. Life is a series of ups and downs (mostly downs) for Laurie but plenty of laughs for us. Oh, the reason I marked some of the chapters? I'm sending this gem to my friend in California. Keep laughing.
Rating: Summary: Great stuff Review: I am very grateful for this book because now I can dump the old moldy columns printed on the [poor quality] paper that The Planet and Java used back in the mid-90's... I was a Notaro fan back from the Planet days. I even once sent her a tin of sewer roaches (a Korean delicacy) in appreciation. But I am sure the next book'll be better because there's still a lot of columns I had to keep that were better than the ones included in this first book. The first book actually is made up of columns from Planet and Java and doesn't even tap into the AZ Republic years. ...
Rating: Summary: Total entertainment - witty, original and charming! Review: David Sedaris, Dave Barry and other assorted humor writers - I regret to inform you that you're no match for Laurie Notaro in the Humor with Attitude department. Hang up your pens, boys, Laurie's here and never mind the staggering walk and slightly slurred Stinkin' Drunk Step 10 speech. "The Idiot Girls Action-Adventure Club" is a priceless read, outrageous and real in a way that Bridget Jones could only thoughtfully ponder in her diary. Check out Laurie's adventures in the public justice system while on jury duty, what her Nana really thinks of Bill Clinton, and why Charles Barkley thinks Laurie's very special. I laughed as hard as I could while reading this and when I was done, I laughed some more. Read it, enjoy it, and pass it on to your friends!
Rating: Summary: funny Review: i'm only on page 44, but i can already tell that this is one of the best books i have ever read!
Rating: Summary: Read this book and LOL Review: OK...this was the FUNNIEST book I have read in a long time. I happened to pick it up by the name and the picture on the front. It was a GREAT buy!! I have all my friends reading it now....I can relate to so many of the stories. I really hope there are more books coming. LOL funny.
Rating: Summary: Best read in the privacy of your own home! Review: I started reading this book one day while waiting for my doctor's appointment. By the third story, I had to stop. My face was read, my cheeks hurt from laughing, and I was well on the way to making a spectacle of myself! I'd read her columns in the Arizona Republic for quite awhile, so was delighted to find she'd published a book. It is hysterical and is not just for women, my husband enjoyed it too. (Particularly the story of when her mom gets email.) Pick this one up! You won't be disappointed!
Rating: Summary: Incredibly Funny Review: Everytime I'd start another chapter in this book, I'd have to call a friend and share. Sometimes I was just plain laughing so hard I couldn't talk at all. Laurie Notaro is a riot. I wish I'd gone to school with her, I'm definately a card bearing member of the Idiot Girls Action Adventure Club. READ THIS BOOK! (To paraphrase another reveiwer, however, those minus a sense of humor need not apply!)
Rating: Summary: Witty , Comical, and Not the Least Bit Clumsy Review: This is a book for anyone who has experienced the kind of humiliation only 4 beers and a pair of rollerskates can provide. A book for any woman who has ordered in a foreign language to impress a date, only to end up sucking down some unwitting barnyard animal's intestines. Laurie Notaro is a hero for every uncoordinated spazz out there about to make an embarassing spectacle of herself as we speak. I found this book witty, comical, and not the least bit clumsy. I laughed out loud at many parts, but mostly I just smiled with the satisfaction that I am not the only one out there who walks into walls and sets one or more of my limbs on fire on a regular basis. At last there is a crusader for those of us who have not developed the ability to walk without tripping, sit without falling off the chair or laugh without choking on our own saliva!
Rating: Summary: Read this funny book--NOW Review: Laurie Notaro is just like the rest of us--just much, much funnier. We've all been through what she's been through, so we recognize her stories and characters, but she's just much better at writing about it. I couldn't stop laughing as I read this hilarious book--anyone who ever felt like a loser should buy it. And all you prom queens and overachievers out there should read it too--you just might learn something!
