Rating: Summary: Laughing Out Loud Review: It was 12:35 a.m. and I just could not put it down! I laughed out loud so hard that I woke up the rest of the household. Laurie Notaro has taken Every-Single-Girl's life and found humor in the absurd, and the hilarity in our family relationships. It is a case of Been-There-Done-That, and any reader can find a character to relate to, or who is surely your friend, sister, mother, or former boyfriend. The book has cost me a tube of mascara...I cried off my makeup every time I picked up the book. Loved it and can't wait for her next one.
Rating: Summary: This is a top pick for this year's reading Review: I do not laugh out loud when reading books. Okay, that said. I'm now a converted "laugh-out-louder" because of The Idiot Girls' Action Adventure Club by Laurie Notaro. Not only could I relate to practically everything Notaro has written about (I am a true Idiot Girl to the fullest extent), but she just hits you with these one-liners and images that catch you off guard, and you have to laugh. You have to share scenes and sentences and sayings with those that will understand. You want to shout at the top of your voice how great this book is -- and you want everyone else to feel the same. Every snippet of life that Notaro shares with us is full of humor and a really strange sense of humility. This is life, kids, so enjoy it while you can.
Rating: Summary: Funny Funny Funny Review: I was delayed in the DC airport and really needed something to get me through the wait. I picked up Idiot Girls' Action Adventure Club in the airport bookstore. It was so funny - laugh out loud funny. A woman sitting next to me waiting impatiently asked what I was reading and she went to pick up a copy. The book helped both of us wait the delay out. I've given a copy to my sister and she loves the book too. It's pure, mindless fun.
Rating: Summary: Read it a Year Ago and Still Laugh About it Review: OH MY GOD!!! This is the funniest book for the single woman. But a warning, DO NOT read this book in public due to excessive outbursts of laughter and cackling, and definately eating or drinking while reading this book could cause you to choke. I have recently re-read this book to make me feel better about my Idiot Girl life and it worked! I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this book and cannot wait to get my hands on Fat Bride. An additional note: I sent an e-mail to Ms. Notaro telling her how much I loved the book and she sent me some wonderful stickers and a certificate making me an official member of the Idiot Girls Club. I was so excited that the stickers adorn my car windows and my certificate of membership hangs proudly next to my college diplomas in my room. She's a REAL people and I think that's why we loved the book so much. GO LAURIE!!!!
Rating: Summary: Amazing Review: Idiot Girls Adventure Club was the best book, I laughed until I thought I had hurt myself! I am amazed at the reviewer who didn't like this book because they said it was "full of drunk stories," which it's not. Yep, there are a couple, the book is about being young, in college and being in your 20's, but out of curiosity, I counted--six out of like 50 stories have references to alcohol. That's not a whole book, in my idiot girl opinion. But if you want to read something corny sweet and cutesy pie, why would you bother with this anyway? This is not the book for you. Read the back of the book before you buy it if you are looking for something tame. I loved this book because it reminded me of me, the crazy, fun times my friends and I had, and peeking into the life of someone who is an idiot just like me but brave enough to say it. My mom and I read it and we both loved it. Hooray, Laurie, I'll be standing in line for your next book this summer!! Long live the idiot girls!
Rating: Summary: Hilarious! Review: This book is a great read for anyone in their 20s or anyone who has ever been 20. I literally laughed so hard I cried! I will definitely pass it on to my gal pals!
Rating: Summary: Laughing at someone else! Review: I had to find a novel to read for my popular fiction class, so off to the bookstore I went. I had searched for about an hour when I came upon this book with a hilarious cover. Normally I wouldn't judge a book by its cover, but in this case, I just had to. By the fifth line in the book, I was hooked. Laurie Notaro has written one of the most hilarious books I have ever read. It seems to be so funny because of the fact that you can really relate to her and the events that take place in her life. How can chapters like "Ashes to Ashes, Bones to Dust, My Mother Always Said Underwear Is a Must" and "The Candy Apple Freak Show" not make you want to read this book. There are thirty-nine chapters in the book and every single one of them will make you laugh hysterically. I think its wonderful of Laurie Notaro to put all her embarrassing moments down on paper for us to all read and enjoy. If you are looking for a book you wont be able to put down, and that will make you laugh out loud The Idiot Girls' Action-Adventure Club is by far the book for you. There are no long confusing plots, just little stories that will put a smile on your face. You will want to read it more then once, because the humor seems to not fade. You will also want all of your friends to read it so that you are not alone in the world of bathroom humor. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has a sense of humor, and for those that do not, maybe reading it will help you to find your sense of humor.
Rating: Summary: Makes You Crazy In Public Places Review: This book made me laugh so hard while I was reading it and having lunch at a local diner, I am SURE people thought I was crazy! I was trying so hard to stifle my laughter, but I think I just ended up looking as though I was having some sort of convulsions. :-P This is the kind of book you read and want to tell all of your friends about. It's the kind of book that, if your friends don't go out and buy it for themselves, you make SURE you give it to them for their birthday or Christmas or just 'because.' But it's also the kind of book that you DON'T loan out -- for fear that you will never get it back! And not being able to read the chapter: 'Ashes to Ashes, Bones to Dust, My Mother Always Said Underwear is a Must' And have beverages fly out of your nose in public places... That's just not a chance worth taking! If you want to laugh (and really, if you don't, what is wrong with you anyway??), I cannot recommend this book highly enough.
Rating: Summary: The Funniest Book I've Ever Read! Review: Did you ever love a book so much that as soon as you finished it you started reading it over again? This is one of those books! Laurie Notaro's self-deprecating humor and unique slant on life are a wonderful way to spend a few reading hours. Reading about Ms. Notaro making fun of not just herself but others including friends, neighbors, family and the occasional fellow bar patron made me laugh so hard I shook the bed and scared the cat. If you are an internet chat user of much duration you are familiar with the expression ROFLMAOSTC which is short for rolling on floor, laughing my a-- off, scaring the cat and the chapter on Laurie's mom's attempts to learn how to use the internet will in particular strike home. I found her website which has more articles but I can't wait for her next book. It won't come soon enough.
Rating: Summary: This book is the best! Review: This book had me laughing so hard I could hardly stand it. Laurie Notaro has a perspective on life that you just can't get anywhere else even though so many of us can relate to it. After reading this book, I gave it to a friend from college and she loved it every bit as much as I did. If you're looking for a great gift for a girlfriend with whom you spent your "oat sewing" years, this is it! I can't wait until her next book comes out!
