Rating: Summary: hysterical Review: I laughed the entire book. I could not put it down, read it in one day!
Rating: Summary: Perfect Pick-me-up! Review: This is a very light, very funny collection of essays. Laurie Notaro is someone every woman can relate to, and somehow, at the same time, a rare, strange bird.
Rating: Summary: Self-depricating humor is now an art form!! Review: I started reading this book even before I left the bookstore and I felt I had to leave because my laughter was obviously bothering the other patrons. I cannot believe that I had never heard of Laurie Notaro until a couple of days ago when my Mom handed me this book and said, "This looks like It'd be a funny one."Laurie Notaro has taken scenes from her own life and put them out there, (and I mean in some cases really put them out there) for us all to read. I think very few author's have done it as well or as hilariously as Laurie has. I think a little self-depricating humor can do a person alot of good, and in Laurie's case, I think it will propel her to super-stardom. We can laugh openly at ourselves now if we haven't learned to already because we can relate to the gory details of life as Laurie describes them. My favorite little chapters in this wonderful book were: Candy-apple Freak Show, Moral Sex, Open Wide, and Public Service Announcement. Cheers, Everyone! Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: The greatest book I've read in a LONG time Review: I found this book on a whim, read the first page in the store, and HAD to buy it. Rarely do you find a book that is so hysterically funny. It's a great light read, and a wonderful feel good book. I cannot believe that somebody claimed it was not even worth the read while "sitting on the Potty." Obviously, no sense of humor.
Rating: Summary: Liquid-Spurting-From-Nose-Funny....Hilarious! Review: I work in a medical center and usually take my lunch in one of the lobbies, where most people just sleep. Maybe it's the 15 watt bulbs--I don't know--but while attempting to eat my lunch and read (usually within my capabilities), my raucous laughter upset the other people (the sleepers). When I tried to 'laugh quietly', I only succeeded in making liquid spurt from my nose, which alienated the others even more. I knew they thought I was an escapee from the psych ward, but I didn't care. This book ROCKS!!
Rating: Summary: What's up with all the 5 stars??? Review: There are only 2 humorous things about this book: The book title and the chapter titles. I read through the book thinking "ok, was that supposed to be funny?". I kept reading though, cause I never give up on a book until I finish it. But this one has no redemption. It's a waste of your money and time even if you're reading it while taking a potty.
Rating: Summary: ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS! Review: I had this book on my "read soon" stack, but while I was on vacation bought "The Fat Bride" by Ms. Notaro. I started reading it right away, laughed til I cried, and decided to read The Idiot Girls as soon as I got home. I loved it! But be warned, if you read this around anyone else, they will wonder about your laughing out loud, falling out of your chair and clutching your stomach because it hurts from laughing so much. I was reading it in bed and kept waking my husband with laughter. I'm keeping it to read again, not something I usually do because there are so many books to read!
Rating: Summary: Hilarious! Review: I was waiting around in the airport when I decided to go to the bookstore there and find something to read to pass the time. I usually don't buy books based on the cover and title but this time I couldn't resist, plus the review by another reader helped. This book was absolutely hilarious, I couldn't stop laughing (out loud mind you). I was practically done with it by the time I had to board the plane. It has become one of my top tens to recommend to people. I found myself taking the book to work and reading excerpts from it to people and they were doubled over laughing. I've lent it to a few people and now they own their own copy of it. It is truly a must read and a must have.
Rating: Summary: Not an Idiot Girl, still loved it!! Review: I have never had the guts to be a true Idiot Girl. I admit it! This fantastic read let me peer into what I missed, the good and the bad. Laurie is frank and brutally honest. You'll love it.
Rating: Summary: I had such high hopes ... Review: I couldn't wait to get this book and when I finally did it was a huge letdown. I'll admit, I did spend much of my 18th year binge drinking, but jeez, it really wasn't that hilarious -- and neither was this book. I can't believe that these essays actually ran in the Arizona Republic (or like we say in the news biz "a family newspaper.")
