Summary: One laugh out line per chapter...GUARANTEED!
Review: This book is great. Laurie Notoro is awesome. She has a self deprecating sense of humor (e.g., when she talks about what it's like to be the "ugly friend"--priceless!) that makes her at once both hilarious and incredibly appealing. You either relate to her (I did) or even if you don't, at the very least, you've gotta sympathize with her daily life tragedies.

This book seems to be a collection of mini-essays or past columns she's written. There's no overarching story, so if you're craving a "story," then don't read this book. DO read this book, however, if you're craving light humor in small doses. The chapters are short, their topics engaging, and the writing hilarious. You can read the whole book in a day, or you can pick it up whenever and read a chapter or two, and then put it away again for a while. Either way works. The chapters are set up to be independent little stories so you won't feel like you've lost the "feel" of the book if you leave it for a while. Chances are, though, that you'll find the chapters so amusing that you'll come back before too long. Like my review summary states, there's at least one laugh out line per chapter...often times there'll be three or four. Some of her lines are so funny, I still smile whenever I think of them...which might exlain the stupid smile I currently have my face as I type this review :-) I gave this book four stars rather than five because some of the bathroom references did tend to wear a little thin after a while, but that may just be me. It's completely consistent with the rest of her low brow humor (which I loved). But read it and decide for yourself. With or without the bathroom humor, this book is still absolutely hilarious and definitely worth a read!

Summary: A very pleasant surprise
Review: I had no idea what this book was about when I bought it, but a friend recommended it and said it was pretty funny. But as soon as I started to read it, I started to think that Laurie Notaro and I were living the same life. I love her caustic sense of humor and her take on the everyday things in life that she somehow turns into hilarious little sitcoms in her short essays. Her exploits with her friends, her mom and even her Nana prove to be a nice break from the Bridget Jones era we're in, and she hands out a dose of reality--even as in one of her stories she's trapped in a bathroom stall by a transvestite, thinks her doctor has exploded her uterus during a pap smear in another one and is mistaken for a special needs person when she tries to talk with a mouth full of food in yet another. If she's an idiot girl, then I want to be member of the club, too. A great book, an easy fun read. I noticed a couple of typos, but other than that, I really enjoyed it.

Summary: A book I can relate to...
Review: This is a book that I couldn't stop laughing at or put down! This book comforted me and came to me when i really needed a good laugh. I could read this book over and over again and it would never lose its humor or excitement. Alot of the events that occur, in this book, can be related to similar events that have happened to or around me, especially The Useless Black Bra and the Stinkin'-Drunk Twelve-Step Program.

Summary: The True Definition of "Girl Power"
Review: You know how you're reading something really funny in a public place (like the El train commuting home after work), and you don't want to laugh out loud, so you just sit there and shake with tears running down your face? That is what Laurie Notaro's "The Idiot Girls' Action-Adventure Club" did to me.

I nearly wet myself laughing at this book.

Notaro discards all things ladylike and P.C to talk about life as it really is with family, dating, drinking and using public restrooms make her a unique and refreshing read. She is unashamed to talk about the vices she embraces, and she has a knack for finding the hilarity in universal stories such as driving a grandparent to the store or sixth grade health class.

I often found myself pausing while reading just to catch my breath.

Summary: So funny I almost embarrassed myself!
Review: I haven't even finished this book yet, but I simply must let everyone know that it is one of the funniest books I've ever read! During the third chapter, which I read in my office during lunch, I began laughing so hard my stomach hurt and tears were welling up in my eyes. If someone had seen or heard me, they would have thought I was insane! Notaro's book proves that the best comedy is so funny because it's so true! There are so many stories in this book to which I can relate. Warning: you may need to tap into your inner bad girl or rebel to fully relate to some of these stories (like understanding the 12-step drunk program), but anyone can appreciate them for their humor, bad girl or not. This book is perfect for anyone with a sense of humor! Buy it for yourself, and for any of your friends who you want to send a smile (or a donky-snort of a laugh).

Summary: What an incredible woman!!!!
Review: Laurie is such an incredible writer and it shows in "The Idiot Girls' Action-Adventure Club". She has a way with self-deprecating humor that lets the reader laugh at her while still respecting her. It's an absolutely hilarious book and you won't be able to put it down until it's finished, at which time you will be begging for more. Fortunately, there is more, in "Autobiography of a Fat Bride", and the soon-to-come third book "I Love Everybody".

Summary: Read and laugh till your stomach hurts
Review: Take turns reading excerpts aloud with girlfriends from Laurie Notaro's hilarious book, "Idiot Girls' Action Adventure Club" -- but first read it by yourself -- not on a plane because you'll laugh too loud and people will stare at you when milk comes out your nose. "Open Wide" is my favorite; I plan to read it to my gynecologist at my next appointment. To find out why, you have to buy the book. I GUARANTEE it'll be worth it. I'll be first in line to read her next book, "I Was a Fat Bride."

Summary: Don't judge a book by it's cover!!!
Review: I don't know what I was expecting when I started reading this book, but I certainly got WAY more than I bargained for! I laughed so hard through most of this book that I actually had long lines of tears streaming down my face as well! Anyone who witnessed me in the process of reading had a tendency to point and stare because I simply could not hold my laughter at bay! This is a great mindless read that puts many things into perspective for most women... It also helps us realize that we are certainly not alone in our adventures that often can only lead to us being labeled as "Idiot Girls". I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who has the two-or-so hours it takes to read the whole thing! :)
