Summary: Not Bad.
Review: A quick read. No fancy writing here. However, you get the feeling that these words are definitely Melissa's own. Basic honest details of her many escapades (& a few relationships along the way). Some interesting things she experienced. Although I love Melissa, all the details of the chicks she picked up along the way had me, at times, thinking "this is a little more than I really wanted to know" : ) As in her music - she bares her soul - revealing her deep hunger & clinging need to be loved unconditionally. She is definately her own worse critic. In the end you have to love and respect her. She told the truth and she is always searching for self-improvement.

Summary: I wish I could give it more stars....
Review: I have only been a fan of Melissa Etheridge for the past 2-3 years. Prior to that, I liked her, but never made an effort to seek her music out. Since I have become a more devoted fan, I have come to rely on her music - especially the 'Breakdown' CD - to release my feelings - her music has such force, and feeling, that on occasion, seems to take my breath away. I must say, I felt the same way about this book - I got it as a birthday gift, and read it the night I got it - and, have since read it again. What I find most appealing about Ms. Etheridge's music, and book, is the fact that although she is baring her deepest emotions - anger, saddness, pain, loss - she does so with such inner strength that is flows into her words, and thus, into you. As I read this book, I found myself feeling very much like I was listening to her talk - listening to her honestly, and painfully, reveal her life. I found myself crying throughout the book, and, in the end, feeling the strongest desire to write to her - something that, as an avid reader, I have NEVER done - just to let her know how much she touched me, and to thank her for her honesty, I would highly recommend this book to anyone, and everyone.

Summary: Admire the woman.......For the "Truth" and her music........
Review: This book was very touching and went right to the heart and made the tears flow. I cried so hard for an hour i gave myself a headache. I have always admired and loved Melissa for her music and for her not hidng from her sexuallity, those feelings have grown even more. I think this book should be read by anybody who needs to get in touch with their own truth. Yes i like many others would have loved to read more of her "truths", but i respect and admire her for what she did share with us. THANKS MELISSA!!!!!!!!

Summary: A Must Read
Review: Rarely does anyone successfully cross over from rock 'n' roll to literature. But Melissa Etheridge has bridged the distance like few before her. What's more, she's chosen the most difficult path possible: autobiography. She doesn't pull punches about herself or anyone around her. Everyone gets the same brutally honest treatment she uses to portary her own flaws, weaknesses and insecurities. What emerges is the self-portrait that can't be done in three-minute songs. ME's a big star, perhaps the best-ever female in rock; and her fans deserve to know her inspiration, motives and background. Outstanding job, Melissa.

Summary: catharsis or character assassination?
Review: For a number of years now I've loved the author's gutsy, passionate style of writing and singing her music. When she told the world that she was a lesbian, I thought, "Bravo! Go, Melissa, go!"

It's odd to have to rate someone's life story, and I don't feel entirely comfortable doing it. However, aside from the relatively minor matter of rather slapdash editing, what I find objectionable is the job she did on her ex-partner.

When you get into a relationship, even one with a celebrity, it ought to be understood that the intimate details and conflicts will not, at some point, be turned into a book and displayed to the public. All through this book I wondered: how does Julie Cypher feel about this kind of glaring exposure? And even if she agreed to such an expose and applauded every word, how will their children feel about it? Can you imagine growing up knowing that EVERYBODY sees you as the child of one parent who apparently had numerous affairs and of another who told the entire world about it?

For that reason I regard books like this as mean-spirited. It's certainly not right to be lied to and cheated on, but that does not in any way authorize this kind of hitting back. Better, and more healthy, to deal with the problems assertively as they arise rather than store up a huge fund of anger and let it fly like this.

I continue to love the author's music, but I'm extremely disappointed that she has chosen to write such a book under cover of "letting it all out" or being on a journey of healing. And while there is much to be said for the bravery of allowing one's fans to learn from one's personal difficulties--and Lord knows Melissa has been through enough to make her an expert on suffering and abuse--there is nothing helpful or healing in shaming ex-partners.

Summary: Honest
Review: It's honest, it's interesting, and I finished it in one day. You almost feel as if you are sitting down and having a cup of coffee with her, chatting about life and all its ups and downs. Great book, too bad her book signing in Manhattan was cancelled! Definitely worth reading, and there are plenty of pictures too.

Summary: A Quick Read . . . .
Review: If you're truly a Melissa Etheridge fan - you'll enjoy this book! It covers a large spectrum of her life; some things you'll already know and other things you won't. It is definitely a quick read - I couldn't put it down.

Summary: raw and honest
Review: This book is raw pain. I feel closer to Melissa now that I have read it and I truly feel sorry for her. I agree with her that after 10 years and 2 kids it seems a little late for Julie Cypher to experience an epiphany about her sexuality. Kudos to Melissa for writing such a "real" book. And by the way, I want to slap Julie Cyper very badly.
