Rating: Summary: I can't even put it into words!!! Review: I just got this book the other day for my birthday and already I'm finished with it. I couldn't put it down. I started playing guitar about a year ago and have been playing her songs. I have been a fan for a couple of years anyway but this book sold me! Being a heterosexual woman this book held a lot of curiosity and it so helped to see things from the other side. When I finished the last chapter I wanted to write her and tell her how much I admired her. Also, how I'm envious to a...world I am not a part of. I feel like they have a certain power that I can never have! Definitely an awesome book!
Rating: Summary: Stupid and infantile Review: Really stupid. I threw mine away after fliiping thru it. Don't bother unless you are under 15. Really stupid.
Rating: Summary: Melissa's Book is Truthfully Raw Review: This book is painfully honest and real. Anyone who is even slightly interested in Melissa's music should read this book. It gives you a better understanding of what goes on in a "rock star's" life. The book shows the human side of Melissa and reveals deep dark secrets that give the reader a better appreciation for her music.
Rating: Summary: Ubelieveable honesty Review: From the moment you open the book, Melissa is brutally honest about her life, her family, and love. Excellent, a must read for anyone who wants a closer glimpse of Melissa.
Rating: Summary: Wonderfully honest Review: I saw Melissa doing an interview last week on the E Network, and she seemed so nice and friendly and open and honest...well, I rushed right out and bought this book. I don't really consider myself a huge fan of Melissa Etheridge, but I do like some of her hit songs. This being said, you don't have to be a fan of Melissa's music to be a fan of Melissa the person. She is so brave for telling her story so honestly. This is not a sleazy tell-all book. This is a book about Melissa Etheridge's life, and the experiences that have affected her. I stayed up late trying to finish this book. There were parts that made me cry. Melissa is a very talented songwriter, and she includes many of the songs she's written in this book, giving the stories behind the songs. This book made me think. I loved it.
Rating: Summary: The Truth Is... Review: THe Truth is is a very easy book to read, the style of writing is more like storytelling so the book flows along, you don't have to work at reading it nor is it boring. Etheridge takes a very open honest look at herself professionally and personally and maybe a reader might cringe now and then at some of what she says but,in this day it is good to see and read such an open and honest autobiography from some one in the entertainment business.
Rating: Summary: Too Much Information Review: I think I friend summed it up best when she said "I hate to ruin a perfectly good obsession by actually getting to know someone." This was a very personal book and I regret having read it if only for the fact it it was all too real and too human. Kind of like reading your friend's life story. But hey, I'm no critic and I would still recommend the book, it's a quick read and has some interesting pictures.
Rating: Summary: Clarity comes with time Review: Melissa can capture an audience through her music because her songs seem to come directly from the pain or pleasure of her experience. Though that may be personal to her, it can be shared by many because most of us go through it at some time or another. Writing an autobiography is not the same. First, she's only 40. I'm hoping she has much more public career left in her. Besides that, I don't think she had enough distance from her relationship with Julie to have good judgement about what to put on the page. What may have felt like the truth for her when she was writing this a year ago may seem like a backlash attack by now. Her contributor must have been too 'in awe' or just collecting the paycheck to help Melissa really think through what she wants to last through time in print. Privacy is something to be respected for many reasons. Next time, Melissa, write with someone who cares about you.
Rating: Summary: Good, but right? Review: This is a good book, filled with pain, humor and a lot of courage. It does however contain a lot of personal "dish", which honestly compelled me to read it. But does that make it ok to write such personal information about another person (her former spouse as well as other friends). I wonder if she will regret having written this in 5-10 years and even what her kids would think. Given all that, I still recommend reading it--a real life beach book...
Rating: Summary: The Woman behind the voice... Review: Melissa's book takes the reader through a journey into her past and moves swiftly into her present. The reader gets a sense that Melissa is sitting on your couch speaking directly to you-honestly, openly, candidly-she leaves nothing out. This book is easy to read, but difficult to put down. Even when I was reading it on an airplane and I was getting motion-sickness, I couldn't let go. Read it. Re-read it. Go deeply into the mind of the woman behind the voice...
