Summary: Lezbo kiss n tell rocks!
Review: I received this book as a Christmas gift and could not put it down. It was a great antidote to all of the real tragedy which has been surrounding us in the past year. It is a fabulous example of its genre, the confessional kiss-n-tell memoir. One of the best features of this book is that Melissa is not afraid to name names. Real progress in the acceptance of gay and lesbian culture is marked by the fact that we are now free to be as publicly sleazy, self-indulgent, and petty as we wanna be! And to assume that our little micro-dramas and most infantile sexual acting-out can be packaged and sold to the voracious public as a string of Deep Thoughts. Just count the number of times that Melissa italicizes the word "me" throughout the book, and you will get a pretty good idea of what this book is all about. Melissa is expert at using her narcissism to unveil the reader's voyeurism. It is a perfect marriage between reader and author. The book is full of unexpected little intimacies, as if Melissa is your best pal sharing a latte and her dirty little secrets over a table at Starbucks...only my friends and I would not put these hideous embarrassments in print. It is the great strength of this book that Melissa is unimpeded by superego. Tell us more!

Summary: She could have done better
Review: Don't get me wrong, I love ME. But this book is written poorly and is not what I expected from her. She tells her story, she is honest and forward but the book lacks what her songs are able to convey. Her writing efforts are better left to songwriting. It's a shame that the content and presentation didn't go beyond a 5th grade reading level and the tell all side of the book was rather shallow.

Summary: an ok book
Review: She's only human, like the rest of us, but I guess I'm a little disappointed in Melissa. You'd think that someone with her determination and drive would know better than to let people walk all over her like that.

Summary: What an interesting life she's led!
Review: I don't need to write a long review to tell you that this autobiography rocks...just like the writer.
Melissa rules!

Summary: and How Would You Review YOUR Life?
Review: I am probably not a Melissa Groupie, but I did recently see her perform at the Long Beach Convention Center, thoroughly enjoyed the way she interacted with her audience. Her book reaches out in the same manner.

I have to admit I was suprised at the "poor" ratings some had given this book. My question to all is... How do you review Your Life and do you think others see you in the same manner?

Remember, everyone has their own truth... That is a very real fact. Usually human beings are harder on themselves than others... in my perception, some of the reviewers really should take a harder look at their own lives and be more open when assessing others' lives.

But in also growing up in the environment children are meant to be seen and not heard, and God forbid... say that you have feelings or that you are sick and maybe only have a few months to live. So, reach out, care for one another, and when a great entertainer comes into our lives like M.E., enjoy, they may only be here for a short while.

Summary: Grocery Check-Out Line Reading
Review: Quick read and a bunch of trash. It's like reading National Enquirer only knowing that the smear job is being written by the actual "victim". What a pathetic soul! Melissa's writing shows she hasn't matured since her July 1975 entry used as her opening lines in this autobiography. I felt as if I were reading an eigth-grader's diary - juicy tidbits abound but no maturation process filters in.

Neither Melissa nor Julie sounds like healthy partner material. Melissa's writing reminds me of myself in my unhealthy years. (Glad she never crossed my path.) It sounds like she could use a new therapist. She's too old be writing drivel like this.

I used to be in awe of her...

Summary: Much better read than I thought it would be
Review: My sister asked me to read Melissa's book, and I must say I wasn't thrilled with the idea. I am not a fan of her music, and from the tiny bits of what my sister had told me about the book I thought it would be very depressing. I was so wrong! I could hardly put the book down. Melissa shares her life with the reader in a very bold, candid, and raw way. I applaud her for her often brutal honesty. I thought reading the book was much like having a conversation with a good friend. By the time I finished the book, I felt a bit differently towards Melissa Etheridge the performer. I felt I could relate more to her music, something I couldn't do before. I definitely recommend this book to both those who are and are not fans of her music. One more thing, by the time I reached the end of the book, I wasn't depressed. I was inspired by her strength, vision, and outlook on life.

Summary: very impressive
Review: I usually read at night to put myself to sleep - but I was unable to put this one down...a very good read. My hat is off to melissa for being so willing to put herself out there emotionally for all the world to read...WOW! Fans of her music will really love it and probably understand it to a more in-depth degree even than I did (I am familiar with her songs from videos on VH1) Anyway I highly recommend it!
