Rating: Summary: The truth... and nothing but Review: What I liked most is that Melissa doesn't get caught up in the minutia of her life. As with her music, she cuts straight to the heart of who she is and the events in her life that have most deeply affected her. This book is not for the faint of heart. She reveals facts of her life that most of us would completely bury in shame. But Melissa's point, if I am not mistaken, is that we all have some sort of closet from which to emerge, and when we shed light in dark corners, the light gives way to truth, which most graciously gives way to freedom. Melissa claims her freedom at the end. But she also claims its awkwardness and newness and helps us taste her raw humanity. Sure, she's a rock star, but before that, she's a soul on a journey...
Rating: Summary: Honest and Very Interesting! Review: I just finished this book and was sad to see it end. I loved it! It was brutally honest, and very heart warming at the same time. I feel like I have a slightly better understanding of Melissa and her music. I've been a huge fan for a long time! Book was well written and very easy to read. I liked that she included some of her song lyrics in there and talked about how they came into being. I would recommend this for any Melissa fan out there. It'll just make you appreciate her that much more! Order it now!
Rating: Summary: kudos to Melissa Review: I've never been a big fan of hers, but after reading excerpts of this book I had to get it. It's a very interesting read, her childhood, romances, rise to the top, kids, break-up, ect. Melissa has the guts to write about some difficult experiences in her life (being abused by her sister, for example), rather than sweeping things under the rug. She doesn't try to make herself into a rock-star who's had a perfect life, which is refreshing. I like reading autobiographies by people who really tell it like it is. Great job Melissa!
Rating: Summary: I couldn't put it down Review: Bravo Melissa. What a well written book. Once I picked it up I just couldn't put it down!! She really grabs you and hooks you in. Once again...BRAVO!!!
Rating: Summary: I love Melissa, but... Review: I love Melissa! Anything Melissa does automatically gets 5 starts from me. However, this one item does lose one star. The only problem is at times I felt like I was sitting in on Melissa's therapy session and it felt a little too personal and "raw" to be sharing with the world. I didn't really want to know some of that, or at least not in such personal terms. I admire Melissa for going through this process, and I love the music that came from these difficult times, but the discomfort I felt reading some parts of this made the book a little awkward. I kept wondering if she is going to regret sharing so much some day when she is more removed from these difficult times. But the thing I liked best about this book is that I got to learn more about the story behind Melissa's wonderful songs. They clearly have some serious passion, but I wasn't always sure what she was saying. Although she still lets you interpret the songs, it was great to find out what she was going through when she wrote each of the songs. (It didn't cover all of her songs, but she does mention many of them.) And the last note is just that I have endless respect for Melissa and the many things she has done and the gone through in her life. So even if it was at time difficult for me to read, I admire her for being willing to share her life and to help others through her experience.
Rating: Summary: Melissa is human Review: Melissa Etheridge revealed her humility and vulnerability in this book. I was disapointed that the book focused so much on her relationships and not more about her music career. This book seems like it was written to please people curious about her personal life. The information about her early years was interesting but I soon grew tired of hearing about one failed romance after the other.
Rating: Summary: Great Read! Review: I recently read this book and loved it. I have always been a fan of her music so it seemed natural to me to read this book. I wasn't very surprised at her honesty because she sings her truths in her songs. Her book reminded me how important our integrity is, and how essential it is NEVER to settle for less.
Rating: Summary: Amazing artist with story to match Review: I have loved ME's music since forever, and after reading her book I am even more impressed with this talented woman. I have in the course of one night finished reading her book -I literally couldn't put it down. The small pieces of her life that you get from interviews and articles all comes together with this heart-to-heart book. Well written, a quick and easy read about a woman's journey through life -at least this far...
Rating: Summary: She's The Only One Review: I couldn't wait for MLE to release her book, in her words. I bought the book and had it read within one week; it kept me curious wondering how each part of her life ended and how it began. When she wrote about how she came up with the lyrics, it made me feel more connected to such a wonderful artist. She is truly, the only one. To me, Julie made the mistake of leaving such a wonderful woman behind...
Rating: Summary: Rock On M.E.! Review: Love books about female singers and their road life and this one does not disappoint although there were at least 3 sections that repeated the same thoughts and an editor could have cleaned up a bit. You really get a sense of Melissa and her drive to be successful and loved on her own terms. It is also interesting to glimpse into alternative choice lives to see that their 12 year relationships, with children, are not so much different than the rest of the heterosexual world. People are people, rockers are rockers and Melissa has the heart and soul of a true master of her craft.
