Summary: A BEAUTIFUL BOOK FROM A BEAUTIFUL LADY
Review: Melissa deserves much credit for "coming out" in a world that, even in these modern times, is not one hundred accepting and understanding of her lifestyle. I am not gay; it is simply not the way I was born; however, I do know several people who are and they are among my dearest and closest friends. As a counsellor, I can tell you that contrary to what some people believe, we cannot choose our sexual orientation any more than we can choose the colour of our eyes; we are what we are, what God, or whatever Supreme Power you believe in, intended us to be. Each of us has strengths and weaknesses, feelings and emotions, trials and tribulations, successes and failures. It is the depth and degree of the character INSIDE us - integrity, compassion, understanding, spiritual beauty and loving kindness that makes each of us different. Our unconditional love for humanity is the greatest legacy we can leave to the world.

Although Melissa's musical style is not one of my favourites, I do respect her for the incredible talent she possesses, and for her honesty and inner beauty that comes forth in, "The Truth Is..." As you read through the pages of this book, you will have a deeper understanding of this gutsy, determined, courageous woman whose talented voice has left its mark in the world. Those who are gay, should be very proud of Melissa's honesty and her ability to speak out for others who share her lifestyle. Hopefully, Melissa's story will help the world to understand none of us need labels; we are not straight or gay, black or white, wealthy or poor, etc....we are all "inhabitants of the universe", unique and special in our own way - period!

Summary: Piece of Her Soul
Review: I believe Melissa is a true and beautiful human being- she's changed my life in so many ways. As a big fan of Melissa's, after I read this book, I felt so incredible, seeing a piece of her soul in words. Her pain struck me- throughout the book, you can see how deep she is and how utterly a special spirit. This book is a must read for fans or admirers, you truly get a feeling of who she is as a person and an artist. You won't be able to put this one down until your finished reading it.

Summary: The Truth Is....I was amazed.
Review: As a Melissa Etheridge fan for the past 10 yearrs, I have read lots and lots of material about Melissa, I have seen most of the specials on her, have all her albums and have seen he live several times. I read this book in 2 sittings and was very touched by her honesty and her openness. I can't imagine how hard it must have been to pour it all out there, but bless her heart, it is in HER words and from HER heart and I don't think anyone could have done it any better. This is a GREAT book with lots of power and emotion. She makes you feel like one of her pals and she is revealing all...so get yourself a cup of tea and bask in the words of an amazing woman!!!

Summary: The Truth Is..... Is Wonderful!
Review: To anyone thinking of buying this book... I drove to three book stores all of which were sold out of this book. I thought to myself, "this must be good!" Finally after I located the book, I couldn't put it down. I have to admit I LOVE MLE's Music and reading this book was like dealving into her True meanings of her songs. It was a fasinateing journey into rock icon we all see and love. Most all it gives an honest indepth portrayl of the "real" Melissa: Lesbian, Lover, and Mom. I would strongly recomend this to anyone who is contemplating buying this book. Her story is one that is extremely provacative and worth reading! I can't wait to hear the new album after reading this book.

Summary: Truth of the Heart
Review: This is an excellent book for Melissa fans! Etheridge shares very personal information about her life and her experiences from an emotionally charged yet wisely analytical perspective. The gut-wrenching, raw emotion she brings to her music is evident throughout the pages of her memoir. The pages almost turn themselves in this honest and intimate account of her heart, mind and soul. Readers won't be disappointed!

Summary: "I have come this far, with the truth of the heart." - M.E.
Review: This is a book that takes a very public life and gives it a sense of her own truth. Truth is a major theme in the music she has released. Fans of her music know the power felt when listening to her sing. This power is compounded by knowing the story of the life behind the songs.

Summary: Powerful, humbling, and honest
Review: This is an incredibly powerful book. So much of it is from a dark, painful place, but Melissa just won't stay there. Her zest for life shines through and sets an example for all of us. What a journey this woman is on.

Summary: Wow- All the Dirt!
Review: I couldn't put this book down and I'm not even a fan of Melissa's, my friend had the book. She goes into great detail about her relationship with Julie Cypher, and the eventual break-up. The details are totally shocking! In fact, most of the book is about her and Julie, and the details of their relationship - how really, really bad it got towards the end - are downright juicy. She also tells exactly how Julie got pregnant, how Julie cheated on her, and some interesting tidbits about her sister Jennifer, and some killer dirt on kd lang! I'm telling you, grab this book, go to the beach, and you'll have a very interesting day...

Summary: A good story, poorly edited and sloppily produced
Review: The tragedy of this book is that the story is compelling, filled with lots of grit and yet Laura Morton has screwed it up. Take note that nearly every paragraph ends with a predictable short sentence. While struggling to follow the life story of Melissa Ehteridge, the reader is forced to confront repetitive paragraphs, and even errors. For example, some of the photos are mislabeled and misdated. Further, there are incidences where a paragraph will state something which is immediately contradicted by a statement in the next paragraph.

All of this is truly a shame. Melissa's story has elements that all of us can identify with. She is emotional, creative and reflective. A better editor and co-author could have produced an absolutely stunning book with the raw material provided by Melissa. It almost seems like somebody forgot to proof-read the book and rushed it to publication.

Summary: A wonderfully entertaining, summer must read that rocks!
Review: This book is a very candid and sincere look at the life of Melissa Etheridge. I love the way it reads in her voice. She speaks to the reader as if it was just you and her talking. I have always liked her music, but this book is a poignant tale straight from her heart. I laughed and I cried. I felt her deep wounds and related to her longing for that perfect love. Whether you are a Melissa fan or not, everyone will enjoy reading her book. The Truth is... this book Rocks!
