Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Stonewall Review: I have read extensively on the Civil War or, as we call it in the south, the War of Norhern Agression. Stonewall Jackson is my personal favorite of all the great leaders who distinguished themselves in that terrible period. My next most admired was the Union general Chamberlain. This book gives the life history of the inimitable Thomas J. Jackson and an insight to why he was such a unusual but effective individual. I have read no better account of one of this country's greatest military leaders. James Robertson is to be congratulated for his ability to take the reader back to experience the period as if he was really there.

The book was almost healing, after theClinton years and all the cheap scandal and trivialities. It was truly inspiring to read about a figure for whom religion was not a photo-op, and to be saturated in the story of a dense, mysterious hero.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: This book is history, but reads like a novel Review: While biography may be "cheap history", this book is well worth the read.In it Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson comes to life. Although seemingly obsessed with religion, we see that it didn't stop him from inflicting maximum losses on the Union forces. We ride with him from the first Bull Run to Chancellorsville were he met his untimely end, all in all a great book.

Review: Dr. James Robertson is a former professor of mine at Va. Tech, I have not only read the book but have attended a recent Smithsonian sponsored seminar on Thomas Jonathan Jackson. Dr. Robertson is a genius on his method of scholarship and seeking the original source information. This book is not a novel but brings to life a human being who was passionate about his faith, his life after childhood and the crusade he persued through his victories during the Civil War. Dr. Robertson I hope hollywood gets it right.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Captures the essence of Jackson Review: The writer has accomplished a masterful job at capturing the essence of Jackson's character and his faith in God. I could not help but laugh at the contrast between the Jackson of Ken Burns (who distainfully labelled him a "killer") and the deeply religious family man who doted over his wife and daughter. This work was carefully researched and well written. I enjoyed reading it so much, that I read it a second time. A masterful job. Perhaps Robertson will tackle J.E.B. Stuart.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: This book was terrific!!! Review: Stonewall Jackson is rumored to be one of my distant relatives. I at first just wanted to learn a little about the man. I found out more. After reading this book, I felt like I personally knew him, his history, his background, etc. I can only say this - I loved it, and I recommend it.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: I was a Yankee before I read this book. Review: Let's be honest. I'm a Yankee. Raised on Bruce Catton (my father had an autographed Catton in his library). I was afraid of Stonewall Jackson. Terrified. Now, after reading Robertson's book, I'm not much more afraid of Stonewall than were his own men. I'm still a Yankee. But if this great soul, Jackson, had fought for the Union, he would be John the Baptist to Lincoln's Christ. The North's cause would have been enobled by an integrity of heart that was always in too short supply.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Thourough in more ways than which to count! Review: First of all, I couldn't beleive the amount of research that went in to this excellent biography. It never ceases to amaze me at how easily the course of history is influenced by being in the right place at the right time. Jackson was truly a remarkable man and had a will that few if any men could possess. It is amazing that a man with his childhood background could will himself to accomplish what he did. His pious nature and fighting capacity reminded me of the Middle Eastern "Jihad" warriors, which make the battles he directed even more horrifying if you think about it. Had he lived and was able to influence Lee during the course of the war,(which I'm certain he would have), the blood and carnage could have been even worse than it was. His imprint on the South is a testament to his life and death. Although history will say that he was misguided by his cause, one cannot help but admire a man like "Stonewall" Jackson for the purity of his beliefs. This is what imprinted itself on me the most. I admire his will of iron. UNREAL!
