Rating: Summary: Shattered Love moving Toward Love Review: Richard Chamberlain tells in this book of his poignant struggles of growing up in an alcoholic home, dealing with fame (and when it deals with him), as well as his spiritual search to live an authentic and truthful life. Many, I imagine will pick up this book with an eye for sensationalism and gossip over the revelation of his sexual preference. Yet they will be sorely disappointed that there is neither sensational and illicit tales, nor gossip to titillate. No, what the reader will find here is a book about a very thoughtful and spiritual man, who happened to act for a living, trying to navigate his way toward love and finding his true and openhearted self. Though, given the sometimes glossed over and fast-forwarded events in his life that take place in the book, one can't help but wonder if there is another book in the offing or if much was edited out of this one. Yet the spiritual and philosophical ponderings were delightful to read and filled the heart. I am glad that Mr. Chamberlain wrote it and allowed himself to be so vulnerable and open. On a personal note, I applaud Mr. Chamberlain's courage to write the truths revealed in the book but also wish to add that it makes no difference to me one way or another and it shouldn't to anyone who reads this book. He simply is what he is and approval is not required when reading. Acceptance however, is a bridge to understanding. You could learn a lot about not only Richard Chamberlain in this book, but yourself as well. Cheers to the years together, Martin and Richard!
Rating: Summary: A Beautiful Book Review: Richard Chamberlain's "Shattered Love" is one of the finest, most tastefully written autobiographies I have ever read. Richard Chamberlain has always been a favorite actor of mine. Watching him on TV in all those swashbuckling films as well as dramas such as "The Thorn Birds," he served as an artistic inspiration to me when I was younger. This book did so much more than tell me about the life of one of my favorite actors, but really made me think about how to deal with life and how to find beauty in people and in all things. What Richard Chamberlain has learned over the years can serve as a great lesson and really open one's eyes. His is a touching story, is interesting from cover to cover, and extremely well written. I highly recommend it to any reader.

Rating: Summary: A Book Worth My Time (And Yours) Review: Richard Chamberlain's book reveals a man with the heart and soul of a poet and a writer who is capable at both of his crafts of acting as well as writing. This book was very worth my time, and I can give no higher compliement. I intend to read it several times. I recommend it to anyone who in these troubled times is searching for meaning and peace, as well as anyone interested about what a person in the public eye experiences and/or must endure.
Rating: Summary: No "stuff"...just "fluff" Review: Richard Chamberlain's memoirs of his career and his spiritual awakening are all fine, but the book did not elaborate on the internal and external struggles that he (and all gay and lesbian people) experienced in dealing with accepting his homosexuality. It's hard to believe that he experienced heterosexual sex ONCE (while in Japan) and then met his only domestic partner approximately 20 years later...No sexual encounters other than these two experiences....???? I don't want details but I would have been able to identify with the book more had there been a more gay view than spiritualistic view presented in the book. I'm reading Billy Bean's book now (just started it today) and it expounds more of the internal and external conflicts of gays in the closet and their struggle for acceptance upon "coming out."
Rating: Summary: Finding Heaven Review: Richard Chamberlain's newly released autobiography, SHATTERED LOVE: A MEMOIR, is a book that belongs in everyone's library. It is an extremely well-written book of his lifelong struggle for personal and private acceptance against a very public, and successful, persona. The book made my laugh and cry, sometimes at the same time! From the stories of his childhood in Beverly Hills "on the wrong side of Wilshire Boulevard" to his days as Dr. Kildare and Father Ralph and beyond, this book does not disappoint. For those who would think the book is merely a sexual orientation announcement or another self-improvement book, you would be missing the essence of the book and the spirit in which it was written by a man who has found Heaven.
Rating: Summary: Shattered truths Review: Richard finally admits that he is gay after lying to his fans and to himself for so long. That is one honest and courageous act that made me laughing out loud. Don't ever take his revelation as an example of a strong human being. Take it as a example of a weak human character. If you really want to learn what honesty and courage are, and how to be true to yourself and to others, please read Damages by Bazhe. This is a book that would change your live and make you strong, confident, and proud of yourself as an human being.
Rating: Summary: dont be so quick to judge Review: The man Mr Kinder ( ironic name for being so judgemental ) should remember that if Chamberlin had been honest in the 60's he would have had no career -even if he had more recently. Even today if a major star came out ( a romantic star rather than a comic like Rosie or Nathan Lane) he probably wouldnt have a career. Its easy to judge when you are on the sidelines. He didnt have to come out now so lets give him some credit.( for example, Raymond Burr never came out and Rock Hudson only did because of contracting AIDS)Though I think people should come out, I think we should respect people's choices and their right to make them.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining and inspiring Review: This book is much as I imagined the author: quiet, introspective, and charming. Reading it is like lingering after dinner at his table, over dessert and steaming cups of tea, as he lets down his guard and opens himself up to his guests. Don't expect scandal or heart-breaking trauma. Don't expect a catty tell-all book. The author is much too gracious for that. There is plenty of name-dropping none-the-less, and many engaging stories about his difficult childhood and his early days in television. He also takes us along on a spiritual journey. I especially liked the behind-the-scenes peek into what went into filming "Shogun", probably the best mini-series ever made. An enjoyable book. May there always be fireflies in his life.
Rating: Summary: B-O-R-I-N-G Review: This book was jammed with filler by Richard Chamberlain spouting all his philosophical ideas. He evidently did not lead much of a life as he told very little of it in this book.I tried to read his philosophies of life, but it was just too boring. I was able to skip over that dreck and read about his life, which just wasn't all that interesting. Too bad, I thought he would offer more.
